Mr. Mysterious's Spontaneous Bride
Half an hour later, an ambulance from First Hospital in City A arrived precisely at the doorstep of County Clinic. Colleagues from Potts Clinic assumed it was reinforcements sent by the hospital and began to cheer, summoning Dr. Potts and Tanya. Dr. Potts had been sulking in his office due to the scandal, but when he heard that people from First Hospital were coming, he and Tanya locked eyes and instantly regained their confidence. "It seems that that old man, Bob Alter, can't bear to give up such a valuable asset as you," Dr. Potts proudly told Tanya as he prepared to greet the arrivals. Tanya was thrilled, especially when she saw that her mentor had come. She was both surprised and pleased. "Teacher, why are you here?" She was overjoyed, as she had always thought that her teacher didn't like her. It turned out that, after the incident, her teacher was the first to support her. Thinking of this, Tanya ran up to her teacher and tried to take him inside to show off. But unexpectedly, Professor Smith just gave her a disdainful glance and forcefully pulled away from her. "Don't bother me," he said coldly, then walked into County Clinic, located right next door. Tanya's happy expression instantly collapsed. She grabbed a nurse who was about to enter with her and asked in a low voice, "What's going on?" The nurse, who had graduated and followed Professor Smith, knew that the professor didn't like Tanya. She simply said, "He's here to do his job. Tanya, mind your own business." Then she hurried into County Clinic. When Professor Smith arrived, Ivy was pacing back and forth in her office. When she saw her mentor, she handed over the diagnostic report. "Professor, please take a look." Professor Smith's face grew increasingly serious as he reviewed the diagnostic report. Finally, he sighed deeply and said, "The drug analysis shows that she hasn't taken a single dose of the bone cancer inhibitor. She has, however, taken a fair amount of other drugs." As he finished speaking, Professor Smith sighed again."Prepare for surgery immediately at First Hospital." The answer was already clear: this case had been severely mishandled, leading to the disease progressing to an advanced stage. Ivy added, "I noticed something when I was in the emergency room. I've asked Alyssa to conduct further tests." With her current condition, the patient was not suitable for transfer. Just as Ivy was about to speak, Tanya and Dr. Potts quickly rushed in. Having just found out the reason for Professor Smith's arrival from a familiar friend, Tanya had no recollection of the patient in question and when she treated them. However, she knew she had to take the lead and not let Ivy take all the credit. "Teacher, I will take the patient with you to the hospital," Tanya declared. "Since I was responsible for her treatment, I will do my utmost to save her." Professor Smith looked at her, seemingly unimpressed, and turned to Ivy. "Ivy, please continue." "Teacher, the patient's condition isn't suitable for transferring to another hospital." Tanya exclaimed, raising her voice. "Ivy, you called my teacher here, and the medical team was brought by you from the hospital. Now you say she can't be transferred? Don't play games. You just don't want anyone to steal your spotlight, do you?" Tanya turned to Professor Smith. "Teacher, this patient is my responsibility. I understand her condition, and there's no time to waste. Let's save her right away." Tanya knew very well that she couldn't escape responsibility for what had happened, no matter how the situation ultimately played out. So she preferred to make amends during the second rescue operation and, when the hospital investigated, she could seize the opportunity to reduce her culpability. With hopeful eyes, she urged her teacher. Professor Smith looked at her with a grave expression, nodded, and said to Ivy, "Ivy, prepare yourself. I will check the operating room, and once the equipment is ready, we will perform the surgery." Ivy, in the face of such expectations, had no choice but to agree, nodding. "All right." Taking what Tanya had in her hands, she stepped forward slowly. Outside, Alyssa arrived at the emergency department, panting. "Where's Dr. Jones? The report is out!"Roland snatched the report and took a few glances before inhaling a sharp breath. "Terrible! Stop them, quick!" He turned and sprinted towards the direction of the operating room. "The patient has AIDS! Stop the surgery right away!" Roland rushed to the operating room, anxious to stop the surgery. Coincidentally, Tanya had just been scolded and pushed out of the room by Professor Smith. They collided head-on, and Tanya was pinned against the door. Tanya was about to start scolding when she noticed the crowd. She suppressed her anger and asked, "Dr. Roland, why are you being so rough?" Roland coldly glared at the insincere Tanya and said, "Get out of the way!" This dire situation had been caused by the hypocritical Tanya. How could Roland not be furious? Lives were at stake! He rushed to the sterilization room, disinfected himself, and then burst into the operating room, shouting, "Stop the surgery, stop it!" His running steps came to an abrupt halt at the door, and his voice was drowned out. Inside the operating room, Professor Smith and Ivy were both looking at him, and nobody was saying anything or moving a muscle. "Senior, do you have the results?" Ivy asked nervously. Roland finally regained his senses and clutched the report tightly. He approached Professor Smith and said, "Professor Smith, we must stop the surgery. The patient has been confirmed to have AIDS. Forcing the surgery could be dangerous for everyone." Professor Smith, holding the report, had a furrowed brow throughout the conversation. Just a moment ago, when he saw the patient's condition, he finally understood Ivy's suspicions. The patient with advanced bone cancer seemed to have been concealing another condition from him. So he had driven Tanya out, never expecting that the test result would reveal AIDS. Tanya...! Professor Smith's eyes narrowed with a cold expression. He crumpled the report into a ball and told Ivy, "Ivy, later on, I'll bring in several experts from First Hospital in City A for a consultation to find the best treatment plan for the patient."Then, he swiftly left the operating room. As he left, he looked at Tanya, who appeared timid and innocent. Professor Smith sternly commanded, "Dr. Tanya, you are the Chief Physician of First Hospital in City A and were this patient's attending physician. I hope you won't be absent from the upcoming expert consultation." While his words seemed complimentary, they carried a veiled threat. Tanya had always feared Professor Smith, and this time was no different. She was terrified. However, she couldn't refuse, especially with everyone watching. She put on a very obedient appearance and said, "Professor, I'm more than willing to assist you and the other experts." "I look forward to it," Professor Smith said, then got into a car and returned to First Hospital to meet with the experts. Ivy instructed Alyssa to transfer the patient to the isolation ward and then slumped on the couch in her office, drained. In her office, Roland, Alyssa, and Nurse Marissa paced back and forth, discussing their options and predicting the patient's future. Their discussion was heated, but Ivy's mind was already far away. What use was there in arguing? Everyone understood that this patient was beyond saving, and expert consultations and treatment options were merely ways to prolong her life by a day. Ivy didn't know when the three of them had left; she simply realized that when she finally came back to herself, the sky outside was overcast, and a storm was brewing. It mirrored her inner turmoil. Ivy looked out the window, took a deep sigh. Suddenly, a pair of large hands reached out and held her own. She turned to see that Shawn had entered the office without her noticing. "Why are you here?" She asked in surprise. "Wasn't Mr. Luke supposed to take you back first?" "I heard about what happened here and got worried, so I came over," Shawn said calmly. "Is there anything I can help with?" Ivy nodded at first but then shook her head after a moment. "You feel sorry for the patient, but you're also powerless. You resent Tanya, but you're also aware that as long as Mr. Alter is willing to support her, she will never have any problems. However, the condition for Mr. Alter to give up on her is for Mr. Kevin Alter and Miss Lilith to be together, canceling the engagement with Tanya, and you're not willing to do that, right?" "How did you know?" Ivy was surprised that her thoughts were so easily read by him. She gazed at him in confusion, but his deep eyes were like an abyss that had thoroughly penetrated her inner thoughts. She averted her gaze and whispered, "I resent Tanya for what she's done, but I won't use the sacrifice of a friend to achieve this goal." Lilith was powerless due to her background, and it wasn't her fault. As her friend, she couldn't help her, and she certainly didn't want to push her into hell. How was that any different from what Tanya had done? ***
