Mr. Mysterious's Spontaneous Bride

Chapter 80 No More Kissing

Seeing that Shawn remained silent for a long time, Ivy continued, "Shawn, if I did something wrong, I hope you can tell me right away. Let's address it openly and honestly, without letting it fester, because such emotional conflicts waste time." In reality, Shawn understood everything she was saying. It's just that over the years, it had always been other people adapting and understanding his thoughts. The company's employees, his personal assistant, even Jasson were like that. They didn't need him to say much, as they were very capable of handling things on their own. But why was it that when it came to Ivy, he suddenly became finicky and unreasonable? Shawn was feeling quite frustrated because he felt that Ivy's rationality made him, someone who was used to being in control, somewhat afraid. Afraid that one day he might not be able to hold onto her. "You haven't done anything wrong," he finally said after a long silence. Ivy paused for a moment, recalling what her grandmother had said, and hesitated before asking him, "Are you upset because of the surgery?" Shawn: "..." "Come on, you can tell me. What could I have done to make you angry?" Ivy bit her lip and tried to remember her actions after his surgery. Perhaps, just maybe, she had a clue. "After your surgery, I wasn't by your side. Instead, I was taking care of other patients. As your wife, I should have taken better care of you." Shawn responded with a low, nasal tone, and his pent-up frustration eased. He wasn't a petty person, and Ivy had already given him an opportunity to express himself. He knew he needed to make amends. But just as he was about to speak, Ivy added, "But I'm a doctor, and you were stable after the surgery. I really needed to attend to other patients." Shawn: "..." "Shawn, are you still there?" When she noticed that Shawn was once again silent, Ivy tentatively asked. "I have a conference call later that might go on for a long time, so I won't be returning to City S. You can continue with your work," Shawn said in a deep voice. Was he angry again?Ivy couldn't be sure, but she thought about her own busy tone when she was working and decided not to dwell on it. "Well, remember to balance work and rest. When you come back, we're about to start the first phase of your rehabilitation plan. I'll send you the plan later, and if it looks good to you, we'll follow it." The man grunted and quickly ended the call. When he returned to his hotel, Ivy sent the rehabilitation plan to Shawn's chatbox. At first, he was still angry and thought she hadn't taken his feelings into account. But then he realized that he could teach her a lesson by scrutinizing this hastily prepared rehabilitation plan. Thinking about this, Shawn opened the PDF that had been sent to him. He briefly skimmed through the 100-page document, only to discover that the plan was extensive and detailed. "This is a one-month rehabilitation plan. We'll try it for a month, and if it yields good results, we'll increase the intensity and make adjustments for the second month based on the first-month plan," Ivy had explained. He received another message from Ivy, and his heart sank. As he read through the pages, he saw that every minute and every second of his daily schedule was meticulously laid out. It even included what he should eat, drink, and anticipated symptoms, with corresponding treatment options. As his assistant brought dinner for him, Shawn couldn't help but notice the thoughtful and caring content in the plan. "Mrs. Tate knows you very well," he blurted out. For someone to painstakingly list Shawn's likes, dislikes, and dietary habits, simply being a doctor was not enough. Shawn's facial lines appeared to soften slightly, and he was met with a detailed table on the page. It listed what Shawn should and shouldn't eat, along with potential allergies. He took a sharp breath. "Mr. Tate, your wife seems to know you very well," his assistant added. His once stern expression appeared to crumble. "Prepare the car, we're going back to City A." He didn't know why, but he suddenly wanted to return and... give that impostor a piece of his mind! His assistant quickly arranged for the car, and they set off for City A during the night. Meanwhile, back in City A, Ivy was still working late. Even though Marissa had helped resolve the crisis with the clinic staff leaving, a new doctor was starting the next day. Ivy needed to prepare all the handover documentation to help the doctor quickly adapt to the new working environment. She had delegated many of her responsibilities to Roland in recent days, and it had taken a toll on him. Feeling guilty, she volunteered to handle most of the work herself. In the late hours of the night, she looked out the window, instinctively massaging her aching shoulders. Her thoughts drifted to City S. She wondered how Shawn was doing. He had just undergone surgery, and this was the time when he shouldn't be straining himself. Next time, she absolutely couldn't let him slip away under her watch. Ivy made a silent commitment to herself. At that moment, there was a knock on her office door. She paused for a moment, then got up to open the door. To her surprise, she found the weary Shawn and Mr. Luke standing there. "Weren't you in City S? Why... are you back?" she asked. Seeing the exhaustion on Shawn's face, her instinct was to give him a check-up. But her wrist was unexpectedly seized by him. "What...?" She couldn't finish her sentence as he swallowed up her words. "Punishment for you!" It seemed that he had been angry with her for several days, and she still didn't quite understand why. Shawn harbored some resentment in his heart but also felt helpless. He couldn't help but intensify the kiss, lightly nibbling her lips as a form of punishment. "Ugh," Ivy winced and pushed him away, her lips now reddened. However, she still instinctively placed her hands between them, her eyes darting around in concern, worried about being seen in a compromising situation. "From now on, no more kissing at the clinic!" Ivy sternly warned him. She had to set boundaries; otherwise, he would treat the clinic like his home with no inhibitions. But Shawn's thoughts drifted elsewhere. "Does that mean we can kiss at home?" "You... I..." Ivy was momentarily at a loss for words. His words were hard to refute, and she didn't know how to respond. She just grabbed a book and threw it at Shawn."Tomorrow, come to the clinic for your rehabilitation!" she changed the subject with a flushed face. "I need to make my rounds, and we'll go home together afterward." Having said that, she left without looking back. A romantic episode had begun for no apparent reason and ended just as unexpectedly, leaving Shawn's personal assistant utterly bewildered, with his mouth agape the entire time. ***
