Mr. Mysterious's Spontaneous Bride
Shortly after Shawn received Ivy's message, his personal assistant checked Roland's background. In less than half an hour, the assistant entered the office, panting. "Mr. Tate, Roland Gutierrez is your wife's senior." Shawn glanced at his assistant. "Who asked you to check?" The assistant was at a loss for words. Shawn had just shown him the chat records a moment ago. He was confident that Mr. Tate had asked him to investigate Roland. With this in mind, Luke apologized, "I'm sorry. Mr. Tate. Then, I'll go handle some business." "Continue speaking," a low, commanding voice came from behind. Luke’s furrowed brows immediately relaxed. He knew it. The assistant continued, "They had the same mentor at the time. He was known as the 'chubby Roland' back then... He is Director Malcom's brother-in-law..." He described the events leading up to Roland's resignation and the subsequent incidents. However, Shawn tapped his desk repeatedly, murmuring under his breath, "Chubby Roland..." The assistant had followed Shawn for many years and was well aware of his moods. When he heard his boss murmuring repeatedly, he added, "Don't worry, Mr. Tate. Even if Roland has feelings for your wife, she won't like him! With you around, why would she choose a chubby guy over you?" While Shawn was still urgently investigating Roland's background, Ivy had roughly gathered information about Roland over dinner. After returning home, she immediately sent all the relevant recruitment materials and County Clinic's future expansion plans to Roland. She reluctantly pitched him an idea: "Senior, you are more suited to management and strategic expansion. So, it would be great if you could take care of recruiting senior doctors and contributing to the expansion of County Clinic." Roland quickly responded with a text expressing his disbelief, claiming that this idea was not what he had in mind when coming here. Even though he said that, less than ten minutes later, Roland began asking Ivy about her cooperation with DT Investments. Ivy answered all of his questions and explained everything related to the collaboration. Once she was sure that he understood, she sighed in relief and stretched lazily. Next, she needed to prepare for Shawn's surgery.Ivy was in a good mood and opened her computer to start studying Shawn's medical records and fine-tuning the surgical plan. Just as she was about to get to work, she received a call from Jasson. "Hello, Dr. Jones... Ouch, it hurts so much, be gentle!" Jasson was yelling and screaming over the phone, causing Ivy to instinctively move the phone a little further from her ear. "Is it Shawn you're looking for?" Ivy felt that her relationship with Jasson, due to Shawn, was not exactly warm, but not frosty either. Out-of-the-blue private contacts were unusual for him, aside from being unable to reach Shawn. "Ivy, you need to be careful. Hahaha... Don't come!" The voice on the other end was laughingly eerie. "What's wrong with you? Is she with you?" Ivy asked. "Dr. Jones, you better come quickly. Lilith is going crazy at my place. She's being so wild! Lilith, it hurts! Jones doctor, she's biting me!" "Ivy... Don't come over, I'm fine. I'm just upset, and I need someone to vent my frustration on!" Ivy was baffled. "Lawyer Brown, what happened to you?" While Jasson's family life with Lilith was tumultuous, what was the reason for this sudden phone call? Ivy couldn't help but wonder. "Dr. Jones, you need to hurry to my place. Lilith is throwing a tantrum, and she's going wild. Dr. Jones, you have to come quickly!" Jasson replied. Ivy continued to inquire about the situation. "What's going on, Lilith?" "I'm so upset, Ivy. My dad is forcing me to go on an arranged blind date and get married to a man I don't like. I won't have any freedom anymore! What do I do, Ivy?" Ivy's heart sank as she listened to Lilith's depressed voice. She couldn't help but feel sorry for Lilith. "Lilith, I'll come to pick you up now." "No need!" Lilith took the phone from Jasson and suddenly choked up. "Ivy, don't come. Jasson will take care of me. He's just a little rough, but I'll be fine." Ivy was concerned. "Are you sure, Lilith?" "Ivy, I'm fine. Jasson Brown can't do anything to me." With Lilith's muffled cries on the other end of the line, Jasson's voice, which sounded like he was being slaughtered, could also be heard. "Lilith, you need to be more gentle. My face has been scratched. You're responsible for this!""Jasson Brown, let’s get married like Ivy and Shawn! It's better to marry you, an idiot, than some man my dad chose!" Lilith shouted. "You, you're the one who's idiot! I'm a top-notch lawyer!" Jasson protested. Ivy couldn't help but feel a headache coming on. Jasson and Lilith's relationship had always been a rollercoaster ride, full of ups and downs. "Beep, beep, beep..." The phone call was abruptly cut off, leaving Ivy standing there in a daze with her thoughts in disarray. "Hello, Lilith?" "Jasson Brown?" "Hello? Hello?" Ivy repeatedly called Jasson's number several times, but after long bouts of ringing, all she got was the automated answer, "The number you have dialed is not available..." Ivy paced back and forth, growing more anxious. She waited until late at night when Jasson Brown finally called her back via video chat. In the video call, she saw Lilith sleeping soundly on Jasson's bed. Her eyes were still wet from crying earlier. This was the first time Ivy had seen Lilith so sad and desolate. It broke her heart. "I'm going to pick her up now!" "Dr. Jones, you'd better not come. She's asleep, and I'll go sleep in the guest room," Jasson replied, his voice carrying a sense of fatigue but without impatience or annoyance. "I found her at a nightclub, dancing with a group of rich young men. She almost got taken advantage of, so I couldn't help but bring her here." "Thank you, Lawyer Brown." "Dr. Jones, you don't need to thank me. You're Shawn's wife, and she's your friend. It's the least I can do." Jasson mentally grumbled that he would make Lilith reimburse him for his medical bills, as she had bitten his shoulder, causing him significant pain. "However, based on what she told me, it seems that the Smith family is pressuring her to marry. They want her to find a marriage partner among the major families in City A."Ivy listened silently to Jasson's words, feeling an urge to hug Lilith. Lilith always appeared as a carefree sister who enjoyed life, but being part of a prestigious family meant she couldn't escape the fate of arranged marriages. Lilith had once said that she could do anything she wanted but had no say in deciding her marriage partner, just like Kevin. "Lawyer Brown, please help me take care of her. When she wakes up, I'll go pick her up." Ivy knew Lilith well enough to understand that she wouldn't come herself unless the situation was truly unbearable. "You can rest assured. I'll make sure she gets back home safely tomorrow," Jasson assured her before ending the call. Ivy's mood remained unsettled. She couldn't help but feel grateful that she had chosen to marry Shawn. If not... Just as she was lost in thought, the doorbell rang. Ivy thought it might be her mother who had forgotten her keys, so she opened the door without much thought. "When did you come back?" She looked at Shawn in the wheelchair, surprised and delighted. "You're back, but you didn't inform me in advance. I would have picked you up. Mr. Luke has been taking care of the transportation back and forth." "The matter finished earlier than expected, so I rushed back." Shawn seemed to enjoy Ivy's rare ramblings more and more. It was clear that he was different because Dr. Jones of County Clinic was usually cool, rational, and rarely chatted idly. "Really?" Seeing the doubtful look in her eyes, Shawn pointed to his assistant behind him and said with a raised eyebrow, "It's true. You can ask Mr. Luke." "Yes, yes, yes!" Mr. Luke tried his best to cooperate, his mouth stretching wide into a toothy grin. In his heart, however, his eyes were rolling to the heavens. Of course, he wouldn't tell anyone, but he knew. Mr. Tate had returned early because he couldn't stand the jealousy caused by Roland's antics. Would he dare say that? Absolutely not! ***
