Mr. Mysterious's Spontaneous Bride

Chapter 41 Waiting For Reward

After Jasson ended the video call, the meeting at County Clinic fell into an awkward silence. Director Malcom didn't know what to do, Dr. Ticko was filled with resentment, and Jenny couldn't hide her disdain as she rolled her eyes at Ivy. After a long silence, Director Malcom spoke up, "Dr. Jones, take good care of the patient from the surgery. When his condition improves tomorrow, you'll have more persuasive power. By then, let's keep a low profile, and as time goes on, people will naturally forget today's incident." "But, Director..." Jenny pouted prettily, "The noise outside covers everything, but our clinic colleagues..." "If they don't agree, they can roll out!" Director Malcom impatiently interrupted her. "Can they bring in important clients and collaborations like Dr. Jones does?" "But..." "Dr. Jenny!" Director Malcom snapped, "Although you're Dr. Ticko's student, you should remember that you're an intern. When you encounter someone like Dr. Jones, you should treat her with respect as your superior." With a sarcastic glance at Dr. Ticko, he implied that he hadn't trained his disciples well. Dr. Ticko fully understood the implication and said with an embarrassed smile, "Jenny, the director is right. You should apologize to Dr. Jones." "Dr. Ticko!" Jenny pouted coquettishly and was given a stern look by Dr. Ticko. She immediately pursed her red lips and muttered, "I'm sorry, Dr. Jones." "Now that this is settled, everyone can go. Dr. Jones, stay at the clinic tonight to observe the patient," Director Malcom instructed before ending the meeting. As soon as Ivy ended the video call, Shawn’s special assistant returned with the fingerprint matching results. She looked at the report and smirked, "It's really her." Then she handed the report to Shawn and got up to leave. "The patient needs a medication change. You and Mr. Luke can wait here for me. I'll be back soon." Shawn nodded. "Take care." "Alright." ... Ivy retrieved the medicine from the pharmacy and then asked Jessie to accompany her to the patient's room. However, right before entering, she furrowed her brows and said, "I'll be right back; please wait for me." She swiftly left. "Dr. Jones, go ahead. I'll wait here," Jessie replied with a smile, which vanished the moment Ivy disappeared at the end of the hallway. Jessie looked around, confirming there was no one nearby. She then lifted her white cloth and retrieved a small medicine bottle from underneath, preparing to replace it with the one in her pocket. Director Malcom had been frugal and had never installed surveillance cameras in the clinic, which allowed her to act so recklessly. Just when Jessie thought she was about to succeed in her plan, she heard a cold and stern voice from behind. "Have you captured everything?" Jessie's face turned pale, and she followed the source of the voice. Sitting in a wheelchair, Shawn was looking at her with disgust, and the man next to him was holding a camera. It was evident that he had recorded everything that had just happened. "You... You...!" Jessie was scared out of her wits and turned to run. But Shawn's assistant dashed over to grab her, then pushed her to the ground and knelt. She cried out in pain, "Help, help...!" Struggling, she suddenly saw white sneakers. Jessie raised her head and was taken aback to find that Ivy was standing right in front of her. "Jessie, why would you do this to me?" Ivy's face remained hidden in the shadows. "You've been with me for three years." Jessie joined the clinic right after graduating and became Ivy's assistant a year later. After two years, her progress had been slow, and she hadn't advanced much. However, Ivy persisted in training her despite the pressure from Director Malcom. She never expected Jessie to help someone else frame her. "Heh, don't act all innocent here, Dr. Jones!" Jessie sneered with a look of disgust in her eyes. "I came in with the same group as you, but others got promoted, while you've kept me as your assistant for three years!" Ivy tossed a stack of evaluation forms from the last three years in front of her. "These are the evaluations from Director Malcom, Dr. Ticko, and Dr. Jenny, as well as your final grades. They'll be here in half an hour. Take a look at them first and decide who's the good one and who's the bad one." After saying this, she bent down and helped Jessie to her feet, then pushed her into her office and locked the door. "Mr. Luke, would you mind watching for a while? I need to change a patient's medication." She concealed her displeasure, smiled, and asked the assistant. This was the first time the assistant had seen Ivy so angry. For a moment, he didn't react and just stammered, "Okay." Ivy turned to Shawn, and he had a triumphant expression on his handsome face, with a glint of light in his eyes. He looked like a little golden retriever who had done a good deed and was waiting for a reward. Ivy chuckled softly and ruffled his hair as if comforting a child or a patient. "Thank you, Shawn. You're very clever, always knowing what I want to do." The man turned around quickly, his stern face showing a hint of embarrassment. He cleared his throat awkwardly and said, "You can go back to your work; I'll stay here." Ivy clenched the hand that was left hanging in mid-air, puzzled. Had she said something wrong? What was wrong with him? She headed into the patient's room, leaving the special assistant to watch over the situation. The assistant noticed his boss's ears turning red but was amused by the situation. "Mr. Tate, Mrs. Tate is gone," he softly reminded. Shawn gave an icy glance at the nurse Jessie, who was crying and grabbing her evaluation reports, and ordered, "Keep an eye on her." "Understood." After changing the patient's medication, Ivy called Director Malcom to make sure he was awake. To be certain, she called him on his home landline. At 3 a.m., Director Malcom, who had had a sleepless night, cursed as he yawned. He pushed open the door to the meeting room at the County Clinic. His gaze swept over the "backbone doctors" who sat solemnly as if they were primary school students and finally fixed on Ivy, who was sitting solemnly. He first settled heavily into his seat and sighed. Then, with a loud "thud," he slapped the documents he had been holding onto the table. The sound was deafening, causing everyone present to shudder. Jessie, who was on the floor sobbing, was especially frightened. "What on earth is going on?" Director Malcom roared, glaring at Jessie, "Jessie, Dr. Jones has treated you well. When you first came to the County Clinic, you were under Dr. Ticko, and your performance in the first year was the worst in the entire clinic. Dr. Ticko was about to dismiss you, but Dr. Jones personally assured me that she was willing to mentor you. It was her promise that persuaded me to give you a chance. And now, this is how you repay Dr. Jones?!" Jessie was sobbing uncontrollably and couldn't even explain herself. "I'm sorry, Director... sniff, sniff..." After reading the evaluations that Ivy had given her in the office, Jessie realized that all the doctors had written failing evaluations for her and recommended her dismissal, with the exception of Dr. Jones, who had consistently encouraged her. She had been told that it was Dr. Ticko who had given her excellent evaluations to ensure she met the overall pass grade, but now it seemed that it was Dr. Jones's evaluations that had made the difference. She had always believed that the words of encouragement had come from Dr. Ticko, but now it appeared they were attributed to Dr. Jones. Dr. Ticko had initially told her that it was Dr. Jones who had used unscrupulous methods to force him to hand Jessie over. He had described how she had taken Jessie away from him. What was the truth? "Director, wasn't it Dr. Jones who took me from you using unscrupulous methods?" Jessie asked, her voice quivering with resentment. "Why did she take me from you?" Director Malcom was furious and laughed sarcastically. He pointed to the evaluation form in front of him and asked Jessie, "What on earth do you think you've got that made Dr. Jones want to steal you? Why would she do that?" Director Malcom was irate. He slapped the fingerprint comparison results onto Jessie's face, and his anger flared even more. "You, an unscrupulous nurse who plays with patients' lives, think that Dr. Jones used despicable means to steal you? Are you suffering from delusions, or has Dr. Jones gone mad?" As he spoke, Director Malcom pulled Ivy up from her seat, his hands trembling with fury. "Dr. Jones is an excellent physician, incredibly smart and highly skilled. She had to compete with you, someone who's nothing but garbage? Do you think she has nothing better to do with her time?!!!" "But...," Jessie looked anxiously at Dr. Ticko, "It was Dr. Ticko who told me..." Dr. Ticko was taken aback and promptly denied, "No, I never said that. Jessie, you can't just make up things. When did I say that?""That's right! Jessie, my mentor was generous to you in the past. You shouldn't falsely accuse others!" Jenny chimed in. Jessie stared at Dr. Jenny and Dr. Ticko, taken aback. "You guys... you guys... Director, Dr. Ticko and Dr. Jenny told me that if I helped to drive Dr. Jones out of the clinic, I could return to work under Dr. Ticko..." ***
