Mr. Mysterious's Spontaneous Bride

Chapter 32 We Are A Couple

Max had originally wanted to hold Dr. Jones’ arm as usual, but when his mother yelled like that, he was immediately frightened and withdrew his hand. Ivy, puzzled, asked Max's mother, “What's wrong?” Max's mother, with a disgusted expression, asked Jessie, who was standing behind Ivy, “You come over; I don't want someone like Ivy, a whore, treating my son.” Ivy frowned. Max's mother was usually quite friendly, so why did she suddenly call her a whore? She nodded to Jessie, indicating that she should check Max's condition. Then, Ivy asked, Max's mother, is there some misunderstanding here?' “I have a misunderstanding?” Max's mother sneered. “You, a woman who destroys other people's families, I can't be bothered to talk to you.” After saying this, Max's mother pushed Ivy out of the hospital room. She was incredibly strong, and the other nurses just watched, not offering any help, and they saw Ivy being locked outside the room. Ivy was completely bewildered by this sudden behavior. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed the nurses at the nursing station outside acting suspiciously, and when she turned to look, they all chose to avoid her, knowingly. Director Malcom called her on the phone. When Ivy answered, his voice was both impatient and grave. “Ivy, come to my office right away!” Ivy, with a sense of confusion, headed to Director Malcom's office. “Don't close the door, leave it open,” Director Malcom stopped her from closing the door. He gestured for her to come in, and handed her his phone. “These are the photos sent to my wife's phone today, taken of us after we had lunch. These people must be doing it on purpose, specifically taking photos when we are in a compromised situation.” As he said this, Director Malcom spat, “These people are definitely doing it intentionally, targeting us when we're vulnerable.” Ivy's fingers gently scrolled through the dozen or so photos, and suddenly, she understood why Max's mother had treated her that way."My wife has received the photos, and your significant other should have received them too." Ivy was taken aback and instinctively opened to see if Shawn had sent her a message, but there was nothing in their chat history. After a moment of contemplation, Ivy replied, "Director, our clinic is in a remote location. Besides patients and colleagues, there shouldn't be anyone else coming here." "I don't care about that," Director Malcom waved his hand. "I want you to resolve this as soon as possible." "Does your wife believe it?" "Of course not!" Director Malcom sat up straight. "She's not blind; based on these few photos, how can she convict me?" "In that case, Director, it's better to stay put for now. In less than half a day, I'll give you an answer." Upon hearing this, Director Malcom couldn't believe Ivy's confidence. "Really? Do you have the capability?" Ivy nodded. "I don't have it, but I can try. Just remember, today, no matter who inquires or asks you for information, don't listen, don't believe, and don't respond in any way." "Alright, that's all we can do." When Ivy returned to her office, she received a message from Shawn. He sent several photos identical to those sent to Director Malcom's wife, without any words. Ivy couldn't help but feel a bit self-deprecating. Indeed, with no emotional foundation, receiving these photos didn't elicit any emotional response. Ivy dialed Shawn's number, and as soon as he picked up, he said, "Someone sent them to our DT Investment Group's public email." In fact, the moment the email arrived, DT Investment had intercepted it in advance. Although only a very small number of trusted high-level executives knew his other identity, he was cautious and would rather err on the side of safety. "DT Investment Group's PR team has already analyzed the sender's IP address, and it's from your clinic." Shawn's words confirmed Ivy's suspicions, and she organized her thoughts, saying, "Thank you. This evidence is crucial for me.""There's another photo that I think you'll find very interesting." As he spoke, Shawn sent a photo to Ivy. The photo was large, around 20MB. After downloading it, Ivy zoomed in. It was Maya and Zaya, covertly lurking outside the County snack shop, capturing the scene they were photographing on the director's phone. She zoomed in on the part where they held their phones in the picture. It was indeed the same as the photos the director had received. "How did you get these photos?" Ivy was grateful to Shawn but also puzzled because the quality wasn't something an ordinary phone could capture. "Mr. Luke happened to pass by that place and saw it," Shawn's voice was heavy, and he didn't want Ivy to realize that he had arranged a bodyguard beside her. Suddenly, he added, "We are a couple. If you need help, don't hesitate to ask. If you wait until things get out of control and then come to me, it might be too late." Shawn's voice was very low, and it sounded like he was restraining his displeasure. Ivy knew that she had caused trouble for him, and she felt guilty. She hadn't expected that her relationship with her colleagues would implicate Shawn. He must be having a tough day at work as well. With this in mind, Ivy quickly apologized to him, "I'm sorry, I let my guard down in this matter. You can rest assured; this won't happen again." Hmm? Shawn felt that something was off as he listened further. What he meant was that he hoped Ivy would rely on him if she needed help, not that he was blaming her, right?! "I..." Shawn was about to explain but was preempted by Ivy, "Shawn, I need to attend to something right now. Once I've resolved it, I'll apologize to you later." As she finished speaking, Ivy removed the phone from her ear, thinking she had ended the call. However, she hadn't pressed the disconnect button, so the call remained active while she put the phone in her pocket. Ivy raised her head and looked towards the door. Her office door wasn't fully closed; there was a gap about the width of a finger. Through this gap, she could clearly see several people in white coats lurking outside. Her gaze hardened, and a cold smile played on her lips. If they wanted to play, she would play along. Ivy had always been laid-back. Her world was simple, revolving around her patients and her mother. Anything else was a waste of her time. So when she faced the gossip and rumors behind her back earlier, she hadn't been prepared to confront it. She hadn't expected that her lack of response at the time would lead to trouble. With this in mind, she stood up, walked out of her office, and her ghostly figure suddenly appeared on one side of the door, startling Maya, who was leaning against the door, listening for information. "Dr. Jones!" Maya called out, her face turning pale. Ivy looked serious and asked, "Maya, do you know who took those photos?" "Ivy, what are you talking about? How would I know who took the photos?" Maya averted her gaze, sounding nervous. Ivy smiled and said, "In that case, we may have to involve the police." "What?" Maya's voice trembled. "Dr. Jones, it's just some unimportant photos; there's no need to report it to the police, right? We trust that you and Director Malcom are innocent. It could be a prank by someone." "I also think it's unimportant, but..." Ivy put on a troubled expression, "The unfortunate part is that the photos sent to DT Investment were infected with a virus. I heard that all the projects DT Investment was preparing to invest in have been leaked, and you know about this Cato Alter, right? He's ruthless, planning to report to the police for leaking trade secrets and apprehending the suspects." Seeing Maya go stiff all over, with cold sweat breaking out on her forehead, Ivy's heart couldn't help but revel in a sinister smile. "This photo has been treated as a top-level PR event by DT Investment's PR team. Once the police catch the people behind this, even if they don't go to jail, they will be blacklisted in the entire industry by DT Investment." Maya swallowed silently, feeling a tightness in her throat, unable to speak. Ivy patted her on the shoulder. "Don't be afraid, Maya. If this wasn't your doing, DT Investment won't do anything to you. Cato Alter appreciates me. He said he suspects that someone from the clinic took the photos and leaked the secrets. He can give me a day to find the culprits and give them a light punishment. But if I haven't found the person in a day, he'll handle it seriously after that." Ivy didn't want to lie, but in critical moments, only DT Investment and Cato Alter had the power to deter others. "I need to get back and discuss this with Director Malcom. When Jessie comes to find me later, ask her to go to the inpatient department to recheck the patients." "Alright..." Maya snapped out of it, but Ivy had already strided off towards Director Malcom's office. ***
