Mr. Mysterious's Spontaneous Bride
Tanya, feeling helpless and annoyed with Charlie, could only pretend to be obedient since Mr. Vandergald had spoken, "Mr. Vandergald, please wait for me here. I'll be back shortly." After saying this, she glared at Charlie, turned, and walked out of the ward. Charlie also walked out to handle Professor Smith's matter. Having followed Shawn for many years, he knew his character well. Despite his current disability, he could still be a formidable opponent when angered. "Charlie!" Tanya, seeing him rudely passing by, remembered the recent incident. She rushed to him, "Stop!" He was a head taller than her and looked down at her disdainfully, "What is it?" In the next moment, this arrogant woman grabbed his tie and pulled his head down, "I warn you, don't expect respect from me in the hospital. We're colleagues, not subordinates. You're not qualified to give orders to me!" Charlie chuckled, "Dr. Potts, you’re climbing to your current position in just a few years, and daring to give orders to me, the hospital's second-in-command. Your methods are as impressive as your figure." In the next moment, Tanya slapped him hard across the face. Today was truly an unlucky day. Being treated this way in the Tate residence was one thing, considering his betrayal. But this offensive woman, on what grounds? Does she even qualify? With this in mind, he spat, raised his hand, and cleanly slapped her back. Tanya staggered backward, eventually sitting on the ground. "You’re just a woman who relies on relationships to climb the ranks. What qualifications do you have to challenge me?" He leaned over, grabbed Tanya's collar, and lifted her up. "I warn you, don't test my patience again, or I'll make sure you don't even have the position of Mrs. Alter! Now, go back and take over the patients from the other doctors. If I hear any complaints about your non-cooperation, I'll make sure you regret it!" He couldn't match Shawn's strength, but dealing with a woman was within his capabilities. Tanya was genuinely stunned by Charlie, and at this moment, she could only let him manipulate her. Thrown heavily back to the ground, when she regained her senses, Charlie had already disappeared from her sight. She was left with nothing but impotent anger. Without dwelling on Tanya's situation, Charlie returned to his office and summoned the PR team. He instructed them to immediately draft a statement declaring that Professor Smith had not accepted any bribes. Simultaneously, another group of people was sent to the hospital to handle the procedures for closing the case. The situation was unexpectedly favorable, and even Ivy found it unbelievable. She couldn't understand why the people at City A First Hospital were so fickle, first reporting and then claiming it was a misunderstanding. Was Professor Smith being played with? Although Ivy was displeased, she was well aware that someone must be behind this. Who could it be? Shawn? Cato Alter? It seemed unlikely. Ivy silently ruled them out. Shawn didn't have the capability, and Cato Alter wouldn't likely take such a step, especially pressuring City A First Hospital to overturn their previous stance. "Dear, the hospital just called. They want you to return to work tomorrow, and the Deputy Director will personally apologize to you." Professor Smith’s wife informed her husband, who had just come out of the bathroom. Upon hearing this, Professor Smith sighed. "You don't need to worry about this." He sat down beside his wife. "I've decided to resign. I won't do anything anymore. I'll just accompany you. Our children have grown up, and we have enough savings at home. I still have a few patents on hand, and the royalties from them can comfortably support our family of four. Although I signed a contract with the hospital, this time, it's the hospital being unjust first. Trust me, they won't say much when I resign." Ivy was relieved to hear that her mentor was finally willing to remove the burden from his shoulders. After many years of hard work, her mentor could finally rest. She even thought about inviting the director to help, asking her mentor to become a consultant. This way, he could maintain his freedom and continue passing on his knowledge. But Professor Smith’s Wife objected. "No, it's not possible!" Professor Smith was puzzled, "Why?" "You will feel bored at home," Mrs. Smith felt a bit aggrieved. "You can do part-time work like Ivy's husband. This way, you can rest and work at the same time." After so many years with her husband, Mrs. Smith knew his character well. How could he retire honestly?Professor Smith understood. "Well then, tomorrow, you accompany me to resign, and after resigning, I'll figure out how to work again, alright?" "Okay." Mrs. Smith was happy; after all, Mr. Smith's capabilities were in demand wherever he went. "Tomorrow, I'll accompany you back." Ivy was concerned about Professor Smith's situation at the hospital, and she also wanted to see what City A First Hospital had become. She wanted to see for herself what the hospital was like now. "That's good. You should go back and see. Your former colleagues have been mentioning you." "Okay." Late at night, after a few words of advice, Ivy left the hotel. The couple, who had been on edge all day, were still very tired and needed a good rest. She and the lawyer went downstairs. She declined the lawyer's offer to accompany her and walked alone on the street. In the late-night city center, it was noisy, with bustling traffic and crowds. She immersed herself in the surroundings, and her anxious heart found peace at this moment. Faint footsteps and the sound of wheels crushing gravel came from behind. Ivy was delighted and quickly turned around. Shawn was not far away. "You're back." She walked towards him with a smile. "Where's Luke?" "He didn't want to be a third wheel, so he hid." The man spoke. Everything that happened in the Tate residence had left him mentally exhausted, and his friend's betrayal made it difficult for him to lift his spirits. But now, seeing Ivy, all the low spirits and negativity disappeared. He held her hand, and the man rubbed it, "Feeling better now?" "Yeah." Ivy pushed his wheelchair towards the bay. It was late at night, and there weren't many people at the bay. The night breeze came, and the moods of the two improved significantly. "During this time, I've been busy with various things and haven't kept an eye on your rehabilitation. Have you been exercising properly?" Shawn's eyes flashed, "Do you want to see the results of my rehabilitation?" "Huh?" Ivy looked at the handrail, pushed it, and tested its firmness, then nodded. "Then try it here. I'll modify the rehabilitation plan based on your strength." She thought Shawn was going to demonstrate rehabilitation exercises to her. So she pushed the wheelchair to the side of the handrail, indicating for him to hold onto it.Unexpectedly, in the next moment, the man let go of her hand and whispered, "Take five steps back." Ivy frowned. Although she didn't quite understand Shawn's intention, she followed his instructions and took a few steps back. "Is this okay?" Shawn nodded, gripping the wheelchair's armrest tightly. Then, using the armrest's support, he slowly, tremblingly, stood up. Immediately after, his face turned red, and with gritted teeth, to Ivy's extreme astonishment, he took the first step. "Stay there and don't move," he gritted his teeth, clearly struggling, but managed to stand firmly. One step... Two steps... Three steps... Four steps... Five steps... ***
