Mr. Mysterious's Spontaneous Bride

Chapter 108 Seeking Approval

"What? Seducing women?" Lilith, with a curious expression, leaned in and asked, "Grandpa, where did you hear this?" "Humph!" "I've heard that one of the female stars under his company confessed her love to him and got rejected. Now, suddenly, he's accused of seduction? Did he deceive someone into an affair and then deny it?" Lilith continued, and Ivy frowned. Regardless of the truth behind the scenes, she decided she couldn't be friends with or have much contact with Cato Alter. She was afraid he might influence Shawn "Ivy, keep Shawn away from them. People like Cato and Jasson aren't good company. Don't let Shawn get affected by them," Lilith reminded. After a long silence, Ivy nodded. She decided to have a talk with him about it when he returned from City G. Meanwhile, near the Livingston residence, Shawn had several sneezing fits in a row. Sanders went quickly and returned with bad news. As he listened, the man began to feel increasingly anxious. He felt that if this continued, when Ivy found out about his true identity, there would be a big scene... "Mr. Tate, H Capital has officially terminated talks with the Alter Group and has started putting pressure on them," the assistant informed him. "What about our side?" The man raised an eyebrow. "It's better if they take the lead. You handle the Jones family and the situation in City A. The Livingston family won't be able to interfere, but we can." Some time ago, the village where the Jones family lives began demolition work. Harry's parents, leading the demand for compensation, requested an amount more than ten times the government's initial offer. After negotiations involving all parties, the government proceeded with the demolition of most buildings, leaving only Harry's parents' old house untouched. The company in charge of the demolition and reconstruction of the Jones family village was owned by DT Investment under Shawn. "Have the drawings for the government been modified?" he asked his assistant. The assistant opened a file on his tablet and handed it to Shawn. "This is the improved plan, avoiding the old house. Originally, this area was supposed to be a shopping center. Now, we've shifted everything to the east to avoid the old house." Shawn carefully studied the drawings in front of him and said in a low voice, "We can't let them get away that easily." Then he quickly made a few changes with his fingers. The assistant leaned in to take a look and was surprised. The entire layout had been rotated by ninety degrees, with the shopping center moving eastward and the train station westward, right above the Jones family's old house. Shawn pointed to the location of the old house. "Build some elevated bridges around here, making noise that won't let them rest." The assistant's eyes turned into slits as he smiled. "Mr. Tate, you're brilliant. Once the elevated bridges are built, the old house's value will be reduced to zero." "Go and get it done," Shawn handed the materials back to his assistant. "Also, Harry is a habitual gambler. There must be some unknown activities over the years. Investigate thoroughly; I don't want him to become a burden for Ivy in the future. I want him to disappear completely from City A!" "Understood!" The assistant left to carry out the tasks, and Shawn remained immersed in his thoughts on how to please his grandfather. He called Ivy's phone. "What are you doing?" "I just dropped Lilith off to rest. Grandpa is taking me to meet the etiquette teacher later." "Is the evening banquet attire ready?" "Evening banquet attire?" Ivy was puzzled. "What attire?" "The attire for the evening banquet..." Shawn's heart sank; he realized Ivy might not know she had to prepare. "No problem, leave it to me. I'll take care of it for you." "Okay," Ivy didn't refuse, and she added, "Don't make it too expensive, just something that fits." "Got it." After ending the call, he quickly had his assistant select a few outfits for him. He compared each set on his tablet, eventually choosing five based on Ivy's style and body shape. He pointed to the outfits on the tablet and instructed, "Prepare these according to my wife's measurements and send them to my grandfather. Let him choose the most suitable one for Ivy. Use the other five for the banquet, and send them to my grandfather as well." The assistant was somewhat surprised, "Mr. Tate, you've never been this hands-on..." But at this point, the assistant suddenly understood his boss's intention. By selecting the attire for his wife and giving his grandfather the final say, he was indirectly seeking his grandfather's approval. "Sanders has a sweet mouth. Let him deliver the outfits and tell my grandpa that once he makes a choice, I'll personally prepare them and send them to the Livingston residence." "Understood." The assistant hurried to carry out the tasks. After finishing dinner, Andy looked at the several outfits that Shawn had sent. After Sanders conveyed Shawn's message, his frowning expression gradually relaxed. "He's quite clever!" Andy sipped his tea in satisfaction and instructed Sanders, "Tell your boss, he's on his own, and I won't help him with Ivy's divorce!" Andy suddenly found the situation quite amusing. He stood back and watched, pretending not to know what was happening between the two people. He thought that when Ivy discovered that Shawn was actually Cato Alter, he could step in from the moral high ground to console her. That way, the young fellow would have no choice but to accept any criticism and reprimands gracefully. The more Andy thought about it, the happier he felt. So, Emma and her daughter happily met with the etiquette teacher. The process of learning etiquette wasn't too difficult. The teacher took into account the urgency of the upcoming banquet in five days and taught them only some basic dining and hosting etiquette. Emma managed reasonably well by relying on her faint memories from childhood. But Ivy found it somewhat challenging. She was used to wearing jeans and shirts, and suddenly she had to dress in a tight, body-hugging dress like an upper-class lady, sitting there with a polite smile or not showing her teeth when she smiled. It was challenging for her. "These forks can't even cut through butter. They wouldn't be sharp enough for an operating room," she thought as she looked at the cutlery in front of her. She couldn't help but wonder how the treatments for Professors Alter and Watson were progressing. She needed to check on them later. "Miss Ivy, are you feeling uncomfortable?" The etiquette teacher, Mrs. Lucia, said with a stern tone. "This is the fifth time today you've zoned out." "No..." Ivy suddenly snapped back to reality, looking apologetically at Mrs. Lucia. Andy waved his hand and said, "Mrs. Lucia, Ivy is learning voluntarily. There's no need to be so strict. You're here to educate them about basic etiquette, not to force them to master it. My precious girls don't need to conform to others. If they need to do that, it would mean I've failed." Mrs. Lucia's face lit up with a smile, as she appreciated his kindness and lessened the formality in her teaching approach. "You are absolutely right," she said, trying to please him, and continued with her lessons. After this little incident, Ivy didn't dare to slack off anymore. She focused intently on the lessons, and soon, the day's classes came to an end. "Grandpa, I'll head to the hospital first to check if Professors Alter and Watson need any help," she said as she quickly changed her clothes, ready to head out. "Ivy, remember that your brother is coming back tonight. Don't forget," Andy said, worried that she might rush and have an accident. "Don't be in a hurry. Let Uncle Jim take you." "No need, Grandpa. I'll come back in advance. Don't worry." Her response faded into the distance, leaving Emma to see the look of reluctance on her father's face as he watched his daughter leave. She couldn't help but smile and said, "Dad, the doctor is coming to check your health later. I'll prepare with you." "Okay," Andy regained his composure, observing the white hair on either side of his daughter's head, and sighed. "While you're at it, tell me everything about your past with Harry, every detail." "Sure." ***
