Pampered By Billionaires After Betrayal

Chapter 459 Could A Human Even Do This?

Grace looked around the small holding room, a calculating glint in her eyes. It wasn’t bad—better than the dingy room they had been living in. Most importantly, after three years of living in shame, she had had enough of this miserable existence. Maybe getting arrested could be her way out. “Mom, what are you thinking?” Sophia asked, her voice trembling slightly. “Sophia, do you want to go back to the nightclub?” Sophia’s face turned pale with terror. “I don’t want to…” Three years ago, she had been the mistress of a wealthy man, but he was a complete p.ervert, and she had nearly died because of him. Despite all that, he was stingy, giving her little money. After a while, he dumped her for Chloe, a well-known actress. For him, being with a celebrity was far more prestigious than being with a bar girl like Sophia. Sophia had heard that he showered Chloe with gifts—cars, houses, jewelry—while all she got for her three years with him was less than ten thousand dollars. Then Sophia got sick and had to have her uterus removed. The money she earned with her body was spent on fixing her broken health, and in the end, she had nothing to show for it. They barely survived on Grace’s cleaning salary, with the occasional handout from Mandy. Their current life was a far cry from the luxury they had once known. But Emily was dead, and Satan had unleashed all his fury on them. Even the nightclub owner, who had connections with Satan, ensured they would never rise again. But earlier in the interrogation room, Grace had caught a glimmer of hope. The nightclub owner might have crushed them, but what if they had the police on their side? Even Satan, with all his power, wouldn’t dare go against the police. Grace’s eyes gleamed with cunning. “Sophia, whether we can escape this miserable life and return to living well depends on you this time.” Sophia was confused, shrinking back instinctively. “Are you telling me to seduce someone again?” Grace scowled. “Don’t say it like that. It’s not seduction—it’s falling in love.” That evening, during dinner, Officer Carol distributed meals to the detainees. When he arrived at Grace and Sophia’s room, his gaze lingered on Sophia for a split second, but he quickly masked it. Grace, ever the opportunist, smiled warmly and approached Carol, her tone sweet. “You haven’t finished your shift yet? You work so hard.”Carol gave her a polite smile. “I’m almost done. Just delivering the last meals.” Grace seized the moment, grabbing his arm with a pitiful expression. “I need a favor. I wouldn’t ask if I had any other choice.” “Do you want to contact a family member? That’s not a problem. Just give me their information,” Carol replied, still professional. “No, I don’t have any family left. It’s about my daughter,” she said, pointing to the frail Sophia in the corner. “She’s severely anemic. Could you please get her some milk? I’ll repay you when we get out.” Carol glanced at Sophia, who looked ill and weak, but he hesitated. Grace saw his hesitation and added, “I know it’s against the rules, and I hate to ask, but if it’s too much trouble, forget it. I don’t want to cause any problems.” At that moment, she subtly signaled Sophia, who clutched her head, pretending to be in pain. Grace rushed over, concerned. “Sophia, are you okay?” “Mom, I feel so weak…” “You must be having a low blood pressure episode! Carol, help us, please!” Carol wasn’t sure if this was genuine, but Sophia certainly looked unhealthy. He didn’t want to risk her collapsing under his watch. Reluctantly, he opened the door and helped Grace get Sophia onto the bed. “I’ll go buy the milk,” he said, trying to shake off his discomfort. “Wait here.” Grace showered him with gratitude. “Thank you so much! We’re really lucky to have met someone as kind as you…” Carol nodded and left the room. As he walked through the station, he ran into a few of his colleagues. One of them, a tall officer, grinned at Carol. “Low blood pressure? Really?” Carol shrugged, trying to appear casual. “Who knows? Better safe than sorry. I’m going to buy some milk.” His colleague chuckled. “Watch out, Grace might be setting you up as her future son-in-law.” “Shut up,” Carol muttered. “I’m serious!” the officer laughed. “That mother-daughter pair is notorious. Grace was once Logan Morgan’s wife, and her daughter—well, she was married to the Reed Group CEO. But they both got those titles by being mistresses. Be careful, man. You don’t want to get caught up in that.” Carol couldn’t help but feel a wave of irritation. Earlier in the interrogation room, there had been a moment when Grace’s tears almost convinced him. He had genuinely thought they were being wronged and had even considered helping them get justice. But then he had looked up their history online. Grace and Sophia were serial homewreckers. Grace wasn’t just guilty of bigamy; she had caused Lisa’s death in childbirth. And Sophia? She had stolen her cousin Emily’s husband after Emily had worked to support her through school. Then she had set fire to Emily, killing her. Could a human even do such things?
