Pampered By Billionaires After Betrayal

Chapter 440 Those Closest Are The Blindest

Satan nodded, confirming his decision not to release any advance payments. Emily found this decision somewhat strange, but since Satan was the boss, she pushed down her doubts and followed his instruction, responding to Dylan's email accordingly. They continued working through a few more emails, and before long, evening had fallen. Emily handed his phone back to him and stood by the window, stretching and silently gazing at the city lights. The quietness in the hospital room seemed to grow even more profound. Suddenly, Satan's phone rang. He gestured for Emily to answer it. Thinking it was Dylan, she casually picked up the call. “Hello?” There was silence on the other end for several seconds before a woman's sharp voice cut through, “Who are you? Why are you answering Satan's phone?” That voice sounded vaguely familiar... and there was only one person who called him Satan like that. “Well? Say something! Who are you?” Emily hesitated for a moment but recognized who it was. Before she could respond, she heard a man’s low voice in the background, “What’s going on?” “I’ll tell you what’s going on! Some woman just answered Satan’s phone! Be honest with me—has he got another woman? Have you been helping him keep this from me?” The man sighed, sounding resigned yet gentle, “Olivia, it's been three years since Emily passed. Vincent has been through hell. If there's someone helping take care of him, it’s not unreasonable...Maybe she is a caregiver.” “Caregiver? Are you kidding me? What kind of caregiver answers the boss' phone? And why would he hire a young woman to take care of him? Do you think I’m stupid? No, I’m going to find him and ask him directly!” “Olivia, don’t be impulsive...” “I’m not being impulsive. I need to see if there's really someone else. I remember what he said three years ago. He promised that if Emily and the baby were gone, he’d spend the rest of his life living in sorrow. And now? It’s only been three years, and he’s already found someone else? He can do it, but he can’t hide it! If I hadn’t called just now, I wouldn’t even know! I’m telling you, Allen, Emily was my best friend. I won’t let her be disrespected like this!” Allen sighed in frustration. Olivia was always reasonable, but whenever Emily’s name came up, her emotions would spiral out of control. Emily’s tragic death had left a deep wound in Olivia’s heart, one that had never fully healed. For three years, Allen had been trying to console his friend, Vincent, while also supporting Olivia through her grief. They were both crucial parts of his life. Now that Vincent had finally started to recover after years of therapy, Olivia’s grief was causing delays in their own plans, including their wedding. “Olivia, listen to me, okay?” “I’m listening, but I’m on my way.” “Alright, I’ll explain as we go,” Allen continued in a soothing voice. “I understand you’re angry for Emily’s sake, and she did have a difficult life. But Vincent is still the head of the Norman family. He’ll need an heir to continue his legacy...” “So his promises don’t matter anymore? Is that what you’re saying?” “I’m not saying that, but you have to consider the practicalities...” “I don’t care!” Olivia snapped, her emotions boiling over. She stormed out, practically jumping into her car and slamming the door shut. “Emily sacrificed her life, and now some other woman gets to reap the rewards? I’m going to see for myself who’s managed to capture Satan’s attention!” Allen desperately tried to reason with her. “Do you even know where to find him right now?” “I... I’ll ask Dylan!” With a squeal of tires, Olivia sped off, hanging up the phone as she went. Hearing the conversation, Emily had been silent the entire time, unsure of what to say. She had wanted to explain to Olivia who she was, but the woman never gave her the chance. Now it was too late. Emily tried calling Olivia back, but the line wouldn’t connect. Just then, Satan reached out and gently squeezed her hand. When she turned to look at him, he smiled and shook his head slightly, trying to reassure her. “Olivia’s driving. I’m worried she’ll get into an accident,” Emily admitted. Satan took her hand and traced a letter on her palm. "A." It was the letter "A," referring to Allen. With Allen involved, there was nothing to worry about. Emily let out a deep breath, feeling a wave of regret. She should have just told Olivia the truth right away. Hesitating for just a moment had led to this. Since returning, Emily couldn’t tell whether her choice had been the right one. She had taken on a new identity, yet it seemed that the people from her past could still recognize her. The phone rang again, snapping her out of her thoughts. This time, it really was Dylan. “Dylan?” “Mrs. Norman, Olivia just called me, asking about your identity.” “I know. Did you tell her?” Dylan answered calmly, “No, it’s not my place to do that. But I did give her the address and the room number. She’ll probably be here soon.” “Alright, thank you.” “Mrs. Norman.” “Yes?” “You didn’t mind me calling you Mrs. Norman, did you?” Emily paused, momentarily taken aback. Dylan had always called her that in the past, and without realizing it, she had responded naturally, as if nothing had changed. Dylan continued, “It feels right to address you that way. Please, don’t let old resentments keep you from finding happiness. Sometimes, those who are closest are blind to their own emotions. I hope you can reconsider your choices.” After hanging up, Emily’s thoughts were in turmoil. Satan, who had been holding her hand the whole time, gently pulled her to sit beside him on the bed, his eyes full of concern as he silently observed her expression. He seemed to be asking her what Dylan had said, why her face looked so troubled. Emily shook her head and pulled her hand away. “I’m just going to get some water. I’ll be right back.” Satan shook his head, signaling that he wasn’t thirsty. Emily gave him a small smile. “But I am.” The water station was just a short walk from the room. Emily grabbed two disposable cups and filled them with water. By the time she returned to the room and sat down, the door burst open with a loud bang.A furious voice rang out, “Don’t stop me! I want to see for myself who it is—”
