Pampered By Billionaires After Betrayal

Chapter 266 How Did My Mother Die

The sky gradually darkened. The dusky sunlight seemed to be desperately emitting its last rays of warmth. The setting sun flushed red, straining to leave its final trace of heat on the land. Waves of heat rolled in, bringing with them the stifling warmth of evaporating dew from the countryside. In a confined space, the only sound was the faint crying, laden with fear, unwillingness, and despair. Jackson sat on a wooden bench, holding a yellowed diary, flipping through it page by page. At his feet, Emma had her hands bound. Her eyes and mouth were covered, rendering her blind and mute to her surroundings. "Well, well, your handwriting is quite good." Jackson closed the diary, sneering. "For over twenty years, your perseverance is truly commendable. You've meticulously recorded every bribe you've taken." Emma's body shrank. "I've already been ruined. What more do you want from me?" Jackson smirked. "What do you think?" "I..." Emma hesitated. "Are you a relative of one of my patients? How much did I take from you? I'll return it to you, just name the amount, and I'll pay you back!" She still couldn't grasp the situation. Jackson snorted disdainfully. "I don't need money. If I could bring you back from Europe, I never intended to let you leave alive." Emma trembled violently upon hearing this, her entire body starting to shake uncontrollably. Jackson tossed the diary aside and asked, "Do you want to live?" "Yes!" Emma quickly replied. "I want to live. Sir, please spare me. I promise I'll never do anything wrong again!" Jackson slammed the diary onto a nearby table with a loud bang, raising a cloud of dust. He waved his hand impatiently, frowning. "It's not impossible for you to live. Someone will come to question you soon. You must answer truthfully. If you lie even once, you'll never leave this place." He intended to starve her to death?Emma pleaded continuously. "I know I was wrong. I'll tell everything I know..." "Remember what you just said." Out of the corner of his eye, Jackson saw a flash of bright red outside. He recognized it as Olivia's car. Emily had arrived. He walked outside and saw Emily getting out of the car. They hadn't seen each other for a while. She looked the same, not much changed, except her belly was now slightly rounded. Jackson turned his head, unwilling to let his gaze linger on her abdomen. "Jackson!" Olivia ran over. "What's going on?" Jackson took a step back, deliberately keeping his distance from her. Olivia was displeased. "Why are you avoiding me like this?" "Nothing," Jackson replied. "My brother has been in a bad mood lately. I don't want to be sent abroad." Olivia blinked in surprise. "He's in a bad mood? He has so much money and so many celebrities working for him. Why would he be in a bad mood?" Jackson rolled his eyes. "You don't know why he's in a bad mood?" Olivia shrugged. "I'm not his mother. How would I know why? Hey, let's not talk about that. You said on the phone that you found out the cause of Emily's mother's death..." There was a crunching sound, the noise of a branch snapping. Emily smiled apologetically. "Sorry, I stepped on a branch." She carefully tucked her hair behind her ear, but her fingertips were visibly trembling. Her mother's death was a permanent scar on her heart. She knew that her mother's death was likely more than just an accident. She suspected it had something to do with Grace and Logan, but she had found no clues during her long stay at the Morgan house. Then, many things happened, and her work became busy, causing progress on this matter to slow down. But unexpectedly, just after returning to the country, Jackson had called her here. She was about to learn the truth about her mother's death. "Jackson..." Emily's voice choked. "Can you tell me what's going on? Was my mother's death related to Logan?" Jackson reached out to steady her. "Emily, are you alright?" Emily nodded firmly. "I'm fine. Just tell me, how did my mother die?" Jackson's expression was grim. "Go inside first. I found the obstetrician who delivered you. You can ask her directly." Emily had seen Emma before, during her first forced examination by Carol. At that time, Emma had told her that she had a blocked fallopian tube and would likely never be able to have children. Then, she was thrown out by Nathan and Carol, Sophia entered the Reed family pregnant, and her adoptive father fell ill... Nightmarish memories flooded back, making Emily nearly lose her balance and almost fall. Fortunately, Jackson was right behind her and caught her. He was worried about her but had to restrain himself. He gently held her arm, releasing his grip once she steadied herself. "Emily, are you feeling unwell?" Emily forced a smile and shook her head. "Maybe I'm still jet-lagged." "But according to German time, it's noon." Emily didn't have the energy to explain further and could only smile bitterly. "I feel so useless. I've waited over twenty years to learn about my mother's death. Now that I'm about to find out, I'm scared." Olivia hugged her. "Emily, I'm here. If you're scared, just hold on to me." "Don't be afraid," Jackson said softly. "It's the evil ones who should be afraid, not you."
