Pampered By Billionaires After Betrayal

Chapter 260 A Glimpse Of The Secret

The car drove through the city for a long time before finally stopping at the gate of a secluded courtyard. The entrance was overgrown with weeds, some taller than a person. The wind rustled through them, making a soft, eerie sound. The setting sun cast a gloomy light, creating a scene right out of a horror movie. Sophia clung tightly to Grace's hand, but Grace shook her off. Sophia followed behind her, too scared to say another word. "Come on, what are you afraid of?" Jackson urged. Sophia bit her lip, tears welling up. "I don't want to go. I want to go back." Jackson stepped in her way. "You think you can just leave after coming here? Do you think I'm as easy to deal with as Emily?" Sophia cried out, "What do you want? You brought me here to get back at me, right?" Jackson's lips curled into a cold smile. "You were bound to face consequences sooner or later. I'm just giving you a preview." "Jackson, maybe you should be more concerned about what's happening with Emily right now," Grace finally spoke. Jackson's expression darkened. "What have you done?" "We..." Sophia started to speak, but Grace shoved her hard, cutting her off. Grace said, "Thanks for your help today. Since Emma is here, you must have someone guarding the place, right? We can't escape, and we won't try. But do you know if Emily is safe now?" Jackson had a bad feeling. "What do you mean?" "Emily went to Germany with a celebrity, right? I heard a gang there has its eyes on her. Do I need to spell out what could happen to her alone in Germany?" Jackson was furious. "How dare you?! Grace, Sophia, if anything happens to Emily, this place will be your grave." He hurried off, making calls as he rushed back to his car. It sped away quickly. Sophia urged, "Mom, let's escape now!""No rush," Grace said. "Jackson said Emma is here. I need to see her." Sophia started crying. "Why do you care about her now? Emma has helped us a lot, but we've paid her. She's benefited too. Why do we still need to worry about her?" Sophia couldn't understand why Grace insisted on seeing Emma. With Jackson just gone, they should be fleeing, not waiting to be caught again. Grace gave her a stern look, staying much calmer than Sophia. "Sophia, you always lose your cool. Rushing things will only mess them up." "How can I not be worried? You heard what Jackson said. I'm scared..." "No need to be scared," Grace chuckled coldly. "After I see Emma, Jackson might even thank us." The place was eerily quiet, only the faint chirping of insects and the whispering wind breaking the silence. Grace entered the yard, finding a familiar figure in the corner of the backyard. She called out, "Emma?" The figure flinched, trembling in fear. "I'm not... I didn't... It's not my fault, don't come for me..." Grace rushed over and grabbed her shoulders. "Emma! It's me! Do you recognize me?" Emma no longer looked like the competent doctor she once was. She wore a tattered shirt covered in stains, dirty pants whose original color was unrecognizable, and cheap plastic slippers. Her hair, half gray, was a tangled mess. Her eyes were dazed and terrified as she scrutinized Grace, but didn't seem to recognize her. "Who are you? Lisa? Are you here for revenge? Don't come for me! I didn't kill you, I just... I just didn't save you. You bled out during childbirth, that’s the truth. I just didn’t save you, I just watched you die. The real culprit was that bastard! He got you pregnant, he stopped me from saving you! Go after Logan, not me!" Emma's mental state was clearly unstable. Grace sighed, guiding her to a wooden bench and patting her back. "Emma, look closely, it's me, Grace." "Grace?" Emma cupped Grace's face, studying it closely. Suddenly, tears streamed down her face. "Grace! It's you! You ruined my life! I'll kill you!" Emma lunged at Grace like a madwoman, trying to choke her. Grace dodged skillfully. Emma missed and tried to grab her again.Grace picked up a wooden bench and swung it at Emma’s head. Thud— Blood trickled down Emma’s head, dripping from her face to the ground. Sophia screamed, "Ahhh—" "Shut up!" Grace snapped. "What are you yelling for? Want to attract Jackson’s men?" Sophia turned pale, covering her mouth as she sobbed quietly. Grace commanded, "Stop standing there and help me!" They carried the unconscious Emma to a bed inside the house. The place was indeed primitive. The bed was just a pile of straw on the ground, and the whole house reeked. Sophia pinched her nose, looking disgusted. "How did Jackson find this place?" Grace’s voice was ice cold. "Jackson didn’t find this place. I did." Sophia was shocked. "Mom, you..." "Back then, Lisa was pregnant and insisted on finding Logan. I couldn't let that happen. I tricked her into coming here until Logan safely left for Europe." Sophia didn’t know much about Lisa, but hearing these dark secrets from Grace sent shivers down her spine.
