Pampered By Billionaires After Betrayal

Chapter 236 Emily Is Married

Emily blushed again at the comment. Meggie laughed heartily, "You're not even married yet, and you're already thinking of having Emily help manage your siblings? If you weren't my grandson, I'd throw you out for bullying our Emily." With Bryden and Janet's antics, along with Meggie's jokes, Satan's mood gradually lifted. He chuckled, "Grandma, you're being too biased. Anyone who didn't know our family would think Emily was your real granddaughter, and I'm just the grandson-in-law." "Vincent is right, Meggie. You shouldn't be so biased," Mandy suddenly interjected. The atmosphere turned awkward with her comment. Meggie frowned, "Mandy, you seem to have something on your mind today." Mandy smiled faintly, "How would I dare?" "If you have something to say, just say it. We're family. I don't have the energy to guess your thoughts." Just then, Alex walked in. He seemed to have just returned from work, dressed in a black suit, with a slight hint of fatigue at the corners of his eyes. But seeing everyone waiting for him, his smile deepened, "Mom, I'm back." Meggie smiled warmly, "Come, Alex, sit down and eat. The kids are all waiting for you." Alex took a seat beside Meggie, glancing around. "Emily is here too." "Hello." Alex nodded in acknowledgment but looked displeased. Emily blinked and lowered her head. She could guess. Mandy must have told him about her past marriage to Nathan. He valued Satan highly, so naturally, he had expectations for his future daughter-in-law. Alex avoided looking at Emily and instead spoke to Mandy, "Mom is still very considerate of you. Look, there's your favorite caviar today." Mandy gave a tight-lipped smile, "This caviar wasn't prepared for me. I don't dare eat it."Alex frowned, easily guessing that the caviar was meant for Emily. No wonder Mandy was so upset. Alex slammed his fork onto the table, his face stern, "Is our family so poor we can't afford caviar? If Mandy wants caviar and the chef won't prepare it, then we'll settle their salary and find new chefs." Emily quickly realized what was happening. Mandy was using the caviar as a pretext. It seemed Mandy intended to expose her "true colors" publicly today. Emily wasn't angry. She smiled slightly, holding the caviar bowl and placing it in front of Mandy, "This caviar was originally prepared for you. It was just placed in the wrong spot. Your chefs are very skilled. It would be a shame to dismiss them. Please, try it." Alex glanced at her, his expression softening considerably. Now, that was proper behavior. Mandy, however, wasn't appeased. "Don't pretend to be pitiful. You might fool Meggie, who likes you and thinks you can do no wrong. But I'm not a fool. You know what kind of person you are, and so do I. Aren't you tired of acting?" Satan had been holding Emily's hand, and now she felt his arm muscles tense, ready to erupt. Emily quickly held him back. She couldn't let Satan lose his temper. Mandy was already hostile towards him. If he stood up for her, their relationship might never improve. No matter how overboard Mandy went, she was still his stepmother, and they couldn't become enemies. She smiled, "I think you might be mistaken, Mandy. Though I work in the entertainment industry, I'm not an actress. I'm just a makeup artist and can't act." "Enough with the act!" Mandy slammed the caviar in front of Emily, her voice icy, "Eat your dinner and never come back here. You're a married woman and still dream of joining our family? Aren't you a bit too delusional? A person should know their place. You're not suitable for Vincent." "Mandy!" Meggie couldn't stand it anymore, "You're Vincent's mother and Emily's future mother-in-law. How can you treat Emily like this?" Mandy laughed coldly, "You've been deceived by Emily! She can never be our daughter-in-law because she's already married to Nathan. She's Mrs. Reed!" Bryden's fork clattered to the floor with a crisp sound. He picked it up, and the room fell silent.Meggie's face was dark and unreadable. Mandy looked satisfied, finally venting her frustration. Alex frowned but said nothing. Bryden and Janet shrank back, not daring to make a sound. The air seemed to freeze. Suddenly, Satan chuckled, "Where did you hear such unreliable news?" Mandy glared at him, her voice cold, "It's a fact. It doesn't matter who told me." "You're so sure the person who told you doesn't have ulterior motives?" "I don't know about her intentions, but I know that bigamy is a crime punishable by prison. The Norman family can't have a criminal woman!" "That's right," Alex finally spoke up, "Emily, your past is your business, and we don't want to pry. But you can't be with Vincent if you're married. I'm sorry, but I can't let Vincent marry you." Meggie took a deep breath, her voice stern, "Alex, Mandy might be speaking out of ignorance, but how can you be so foolish?" "Mom, I'm not being foolish!" Mandy, well-prepared, pulled out a document from her bag and slapped it in front of Meggie, "This marriage certificate from the city hall clearly states that Emily and Nathan are married. You may not believe me, but you can't deny the government's record."
