Pampered By Billionaires After Betrayal

Chapter 230 Hostility

Elderly people often have a deep fondness for children. Carol, Emily’s former mother-in-law, was one such person, and Meggie is another. However, there is a significant difference between them. Carol’s longing for a grandson stemmed primarily from her focus on an heir. The Reed family had only one son, Nathan, and Carol wanted him to marry quickly and preferably have a son. To her, a daughter-in-law was merely a means to produce children. Meggie, on the other hand, was different. Emily could tell she genuinely loved Mr. Satan. Because of this affection, Meggie especially hoped he would find a wife and have children. In terms of motivation, Meggie was undoubtedly more respectable. Emily loved being around Meggie. Every time she saw her, she felt a sense of home, something she had never experienced in over twenty years. Meggie said to her, “Emily, you should eat more. Our chef is particularly good at making braised bamboo shoots. Give it a try.” Emily quickly smiled and thanked her, “Sure, thank you.” “There’s no need to thank me. We are all family. Vincent, you should take better care of your wife. She’s too thin.” Mr. Satan coughed lightly, trying to ease the awkwardness. “Grandma, Emily can’t eat too much at once, or she’ll feel uncomfortable.” “Stop talking!” Meggie scolded, frowning. “You always hesitate and fail to pursue Emily properly, wasting so many years. If you had confessed earlier, your child might be walking by now!” Emily glanced at Mr. Satan. He sighed, brushing a hand through his hair. Mr. Satan, usually a commanding presence, was now being scolded by Meggie, leaving him dumbfounded. Emily couldn’t help but laugh. “Yes, laugh more, Emily. A happy mother means a happy baby,” Meggie said with a laugh. “If you ever feel unhappy, or if Vincent upsets you, just tell me, and I’ll scold him for you!” The atmosphere at the dinner table was relaxed, and Emily felt at ease. Her earlier worries temporarily disappeared. She responded, “Meggie, I’m not unhappy. He treats me very well. Don’t worry.” Meggie gave Mr. Satan a sidelong glance, “Your wife always speaks up for you!” Mr. Satan, both helpless and satisfied, placed his hand over Emily’s. “Dear, I hope you’ll always speak up for me, so Grandma won’t scold me.”Emily laughed out loud. Bella also smiled, “Vincent was only five when he first came to Meggie’s place, and now he’s going to be a father. Time flies.” “He’s thirty and only now becoming a father. That’s so late! By the time I was thirty, Vincent’s father was already in elementary school.” Meggie blinked and looked at Mr. Satan’s mask. “Vincent, this is your home. You can take off your mask.” Emily’s hand holding the forks paused slightly. Was he finally going to take off his mask? Though she no longer cared about his appearance and was certain she wanted to spend her life with him, the thought of him removing the mask made her nervous. Mr. Satan’s voice was calm and direct in his refusal, “Not yet.” Meggie suddenly realized, “Emily hasn’t seen your face? Do you also wear the mask while sleeping with her?” “Cough, cough, cough…” Emily began coughing violently. Bella quickly handed a glass of water to her and gently patted her back, “Are you okay?” Emily, amidst her coughing, smiled awkwardly and shook her head, indicating she was fine. Her face turned red from embarrassment. Meggie was so straightforward! Discussing such matters in front of elders was incredibly embarrassing… Mr. Satan helped pat her back, his voice carrying a hint of amusement, “Yes, Emily hasn’t seen my real face under the mask.” Meggie scolded him, “You’re too much. Emily is already pregnant. Are you afraid she’ll dislike the scars on your face? I have a good eye for people. Emily isn’t someone who judges by appearances, and your scars can be fixed!” “…Alright.” “Emily, you’re too naïve. You got pregnant without seeing his face? If it were me, I’d have slapped that mask off him!”Emily: “…” Mr. Satan: “…” At that moment, Mandy’s voice came from outside. “Mom, what you said isn’t quite right. Our Norman family is famous for being wealthy. Vincent is Alex’s eldest son. Even if he has scars on his face, many girls would still want to be with him. This has nothing to do with naivety, right, Emily?” Today, Mandy’s tone was particularly unpleasant, and her hostility toward Emily was becoming more apparent. Emily’s smile faded slightly. She stood up to greet her, “Hello, Mrs. Norman.” “Hmm,” Mandy glanced at the dishes on the table. “I was wondering why there was no salmon for my dinner tonight. It turns out it’s here. Mom, did you prepare all this premium salmon for Emily?” Bella explained, “Emily is pregnant, so I asked the chef to prepare the salmon for her.” “The chef thought it was for Meggie, so he sent the salmon over. But giving it to someone else isn’t appropriate, right? Everyone knows I love salmon the most.” Meggie frowned in displeasure, “Are we unable to afford salmon? Emily eating some salmon makes you this angry?” Mandy sneered, “In this family, I’ve never had a chance to show my attitude, so it doesn’t matter if I’m angry. You and Vincent always side with Emily. Once she becomes Mrs. Norman, no one will respect me anymore. I might not even have a place in this family.” Meggie’s expression darkened, and she set her fork down with a bang. “What’s wrong with you today? Are you here to cause trouble?”
