Pampered By Billionaires After Betrayal

Chapter 167 Being Outplayed

It was a long time before Grace returned to the hall. By then, the hall was empty, the previous liveliness all but gone, with only a few staff members cleaning up. She walked over to one of the cleaners and asked, "Excuse me, has the banquet ended?" The cleaner seemed surprised. "Yes, it's over. Everyone has left." "Everyone? Mr. Morgan too?" The cleaner chuckled. "Of course, the banquet is over, so everyone has left." Grace frowned, her chest feeling as if it were stuffed with cotton. She had been outplayed by Emily once again. Emily's words successfully redirected all the anger toward her. Yes, it was true that she had locked the restroom door, but Emily delayed her long enough. By the time she finally managed to get away and return, Logan Morgan had already left. He had always played the role of a loving husband in public, never once leaving her behind. She pulled out her phone and called Logan Morgan. He answered quickly. "Hello?" "Darling," Grace said softly, "where are you now?" Logan Morgan's tone was a bit indifferent. "Oh, I’m discussing some work matters with Mr. Taylor. Are you out?" "Yes, I just came out. I met a few people in the restroom who admire you. They found out I was your wife and wouldn't let me go, wanting to know more about you, so I was delayed." Logan Morgan's tone sounded skeptical. "Really?" "Of course it's true. You're quite famous; many people came today just to see you." Hearing this, Logan Morgan's tone improved significantly, no longer cold. He sighed and advised, "Grace, you need to be more careful in the future. Even if you meet people who admire me, you shouldn't lock the restroom door and prevent others from entering. Do you know what people said to me about you?"Grace coldly snorted in her heart; she had indeed fallen into the trap. But she quickly adjusted, responding softly, "I understand. I was just trying to prevent them from disturbing others. I was only thinking of you and didn't consider other people's feelings..." "Alright, alright, I suppose I misunderstood you," Logan Morgan said. "Take a taxi home first. I'll come back after finishing work." Grace agreed. "Okay. What would you like for dinner? I'll cook for you." "Well, I remember the chicken soup was good last time. We have a guest tonight, so make a bit more." A guest? Could Mr. Taylor be coming over for dinner? If so, he really was putting on a show. He had just had a grand welcome party and was now coming to Logan Morgan's house for dinner. Everyone would think he highly valued Logan Morgan. Grace took a taxi home. As soon as Grace walked in, she was hit by a strong smell of gas. Grace frowned, her heart sinking. "Harry? Sophia?" "Mom! You're finally back. If you hadn't come back, sister would have blown up the house!" Harry came running out, covering his nose and mouth, coughing and tearing up. Grace was shocked and quickly patted Harry's back to calm him, then hurried to open the windows for ventilation. The gas smell was so strong that if there had been a spark, there might be a explosion! She went to the bathroom, wet some towels, handed one to Harry, and covered her own nose and mouth with the other. "Harry, go outside." "Okay." Harry quickly ran out. Once Grace was sure Harry was safe outside, she breathed a sigh of relief and walked toward the kitchen. Even from a distance, she could see the kitchen was filled with smoke, and through the haze, she could barely make out Sophia's silhouette."Sophia?" "Mom?" Sophia coughed twice, holding back tears. "You're back?" Grace pulled her out and led her outside before letting go. "What were you doing? The whole house is filled with smoke!" Sophia was just as upset. "Harry needed to eat lunch. I couldn't let him go hungry, right? If he's hungry, Dad will be angry when he gets back." "You've never cooked before. Why didn't you order takeout?" "Harry wanted KFC, but there's no KFC around here. Where was I supposed to get it? I saw some chicken legs in the fridge and thought I could fry them myself. I just used too much oil and the heat was too high. It's my first time cooking; of course I wouldn't do well. I won't cook again." Grace was angry. "How did I end up with such a useless daughter?" Sophia, already feeling wronged, broke down at Grace's scolding. "I can't cook, I can't please people, I don't have patience, I'm not even as pretty as you. I can't even keep my husband. I'm the most useless, alright?" Grace didn't say anything. She realized her words had hurt Sophia. She had just scraped together a million dollars for Emily, but Emily used it to lure Logan Morgan away, and had also humiliated her at the welcome party. Now Nathan was still giving Sophia the cold shoulder; she was feeling miserable too. Grace sighed. "I didn't mean it that way. I meant that people should play to their strengths. If you can't cook, don't. Do something you're good at instead." Sophia's tears fell even harder, her voice choked with sobs. "Mom, I realize I'm not good at anything. I'm not as good as Emily in anything!" "Don't say that." "It's true. My husband likes her, Morgan always said he'd treat me like his own daughter but abandoned me to join Olivia's father's company! How does that make Nathan see me? How could Carol ever show me a kind face again?" Grace felt annoyed. "Calm down first. We'll figure something out."
