Everything Stolen, I Left to Become CEO
Darcy whipped her head around, unable to believe her eyes. "M-Mr. Blackwood? What are you doing here?" Jethro held the reins tightly with both hands, his legs gripping the horse's sides firmly, sheltering Darcy securely against his chest. Soon, the horse calmed down and slowed its pace. Only then did he dare to relax, looking down at the woman in his arms. "Are you hurt?" "N-no, I'm not." She said she was fine, but after Jethro dismounted and reached up to help her down, Darcy's legs gave way and she fainted. "Darcy?" Jethro's eyes tightened with concern. Immediately, he scooped her up into his arms and strode purposefully off the field. Brandon, wiping sweat from his brow, hurried over, several doctors in white coats following behind. "Doctor, please check Ms. Gale right away." Not far away, Zane watched the scene, his expression stunned. Darcy was hurt? "Zane." Zora grabbed his arm, preventing him from leaving. "I'm feeling dizzy." Hearing Zora's complaint, Zane said anxiously, "I'll take you to see a doctor." Half an hour later, Darcy slowly opened her eyes. A handsome, refined face filled her vision. Seeing her awake, Jethro immediately called the doctor over for an examination. "Anywhere else hurting?" His voice was gentle. Darcy was momentarily dazed.Am I hallucinating? Since when was he... this tender? She shook her head. "No. Just a bit thirsty." As soon as she spoke, Cindy quickly brought over a glass of water. Darcy gulped down two glasses in a row. Three minutes later, the doctor arrived from next door. After a thorough check, he said, "Nothing serious. Rest a bit, get up and walk around, and you'll be back to normal." "Thank you, Doctor." Darcy sat up and turned to Jethro. "Mr. Blackwood, you were in the area this afternoon?" Jethro nodded. "Yes. I happened to be playing golf with a client next door. Cindy called, and I came right over." "Thank goodness my brother was there. I was terrified," Cindy said, still shaken by the earlier scene. Just then, Brandon entered from outside. He was full of apologies. "Mr. Blackwood, Ms. Gale, this is my fault. I was negligent in my hospitality." Brandon was still shaken. If something serious had happened to Darcy, Jethro would have skinned him alive. He had seen it clearly on the field. The urgency and worry on Jethro's face couldn't be hidden. Last night, with Jethro shielding her from drinks, he had thought Darcy was Jethro's fling. Now, seeing this, she wasn't just a fling. She was likely the real girlfriend, the future Mrs. Blackwood! Darcy offered a weak smile. "Mr. Cole, how could this be your fault?" The person truly to blame was Zora. She didn't know why Zora's horse had suddenly gone out of control, but she clearly remembered it was Zora's horse that broke stride and started charging around, causing her own horse to panic and follow. The source was Zora. But what was done was done. Accusing Zora wouldn't achieve much. Darcy wasn't actually injured. At most, a successful accusation would get her an apology. Brandon stepped out to take a call. Cindy came over to support her. "Let me help you walk around a bit." Jethro followed at a steady distance behind them. In the next room, Zora had a minor scrape on her arm. As the doctor applied antiseptic, she bit her lip hard. Zane held her other hand, his heart aching for her. After the doctor finished, he couldn't help but ask, "How could the horse lose control for no reason?" Zora's eyes flickered. She lowered her head. "Mrs. Gale doesn't know how to ride. It happens."Zane froze. It was Darcy's horse that caused the accident? He pressed his lips together, his gaze turning cold. Was it an accident... or was it intentional? After all, she had always held a grudge against Zora. Suddenly, the door banged open with a kick. Zane frowned and looked towards the entrance. Darcy and Cindy had only taken a few steps from her room when they heard the noise from next door. It was Zane and Zora. Cindy made a face and whispered quickly, "After you passed out, Zane came rushing over carrying Zora, shouting 'Doctor! Doctor!' like it was a life-or-death emergency. Turns out she just had a bruised arm. I got worse injuries fighting with kids when I was three." Darcy couldn't help but laugh. Cindy really had a way with words."You're not upset?" Cindy asked, surprised. "Why would I be upset?" "That blind, deaf idiot Zane chose to save Zora instead of you! You had seven years together! He's a total monster!" Darcy shrugged. "You just called him a monster. Why should I be upset over a monster?" Cindy was taken aback for a second, then her eyes curved into a smile. "Congratulations. You're completely over him." Not far behind them, Jethro overheard this, and a slight smile touched his lips. At that moment, they heard the conversation from next door clearly. "How could the horse lose control for no reason?" "Mrs. Gale doesn't know how to ride. It happens."
