Everything Stolen, I Left to Become CEO

Chapter 93 Coincidence Again

"Ah..." Cindy was speechless, her face instantly falling. "Okay, fine, I just think you and my brother would be a good match, that's all. No other meaning." A good match? Darcy looked up at the tall, broad-shouldered, trim-waisted man walking ahead of them. She frowned. In what world do we match? On the plane, as Darcy went to put away her luggage, Cindy rushed over. "Darcy, can we switch seats? Yours is by the window, better for taking pictures." Darcy smiled helplessly, "Sure, no problem." She picked up her bag and moved to Cindy's seat. Then she turned and saw Jethro already reclined and eyes closed in the seat across the aisle. ...Again?Darcy looked helplessly at Cindy, who immediately raised her phone, typing frantically, "No, Darcy, listen to me! It's not what you think!" Cindy felt like a scumbag trying to explain themselves, words failing them despite having a million excuses. "It really wasn't me! I didn't know my brother would be right there!!! You have to believe me!" Darcy massaged her temples. That was quite a coincidence. After stowing her bag, Darcy asked a flight attendant for a blanket. She draped it over herself, ready to sleep, but couldn't help glancing to her left. The imposing, aloof man of the day now looked like an innocent child with his eyes closed. Long, thick lashes cast shadows on his cheeks. Realizing what she was doing, Darcy quickly averted her gaze. She pressed her cool palms against her flushed cheeks, the sensation jolting her awake. What on earth was I doing, staring at Jethro like that? Turning away, Darcy pulled the blanket up and slowly closed her eyes. To her left, just as her eyes shut, a gentle gaze settled on her for a brief moment before also withdrawing. Two hours later, the plane landed. The three of them disembarked and walked to the arrivals area to wait for Rowan to pick them up. Rowan had arrived in Techwood two days earlier and had already booked their hotel. This business trip was off to a smooth start. Darcy looked around idly. The city wasn't large, but being a tourist destination, the airport was quite busy. Suddenly, she saw two familiar figures walking towards them. Darcy's lips tightened."What's wrong?" Cindy followed her gaze and saw Zane and Zora. Ugh, talk about bad luck. Jethro raised an eyebrow at the approaching pair, then looked at Darcy. "We could wait inside." Darcy shook her head. "No need." She wasn't the one who had cheated. Why should she hide? If anyone should hide, it should be them. Zane spotted Darcy immediately. He stopped in his tracks. Zora saw them too. But she didn't seem embarrassed. Instead, she stepped forward and greeted them proactively. "What a coincidence, running into you again. You're here on business too, I suppose?" Darcy ignored her. Jethro gave a slight nod. "Mr. Vance, Dr. Moss." Cindy, however, couldn't resist a jab. "A real coincidence. One might think you were following us."Zane's face darkened instantly. "Ms. Blackwood, you're joking," Zora said, sensing her hostility. She wisely took Zane's arm. "Our car is here. We'll be on our way." Shortly after, Rowan's car arrived, and the three of them headed to the hotel. Darcy and Cindy shared a suite; Jethro had the one across the hall. After a brief rest, Darcy and Cindy set off to meet their client. Their target today was the largest fund company in Techwood—ProsperLink Fund. But as soon as they were ushered into the meeting room by the secretary, they saw Zane and Zora seated calmly on one side of the long table. Darcy's brow furrowed. Seriously? This kind of "coincidence" again? Cindy's cheerful expression vanished, her beautiful eyes turning cold. Unaware, the general manager of ProsperLink Fund, Brandon Cole, beamed enthusiastically. "You've finally arrived! Come in. Let me introduce you. These are Mr. Vance and Dr. Moss from SummitCore Tech. "Mr. Vance, Dr. Moss, these are—" Zora, her eyes curving into a smile, interrupted him. "Thank you, Mr. Cole. We're already acquainted." Brandon looked surprised but quickly recovered. "Ah, of course. You're all from Aethelburg, in the same industry. It's only natural you'd know each other." Darcy had considered the possibility of a coincidence, but not one this elaborate. Same day for a business trip. Same arrival time. Meeting the same client. After taking their seats, Cindy leaned over and whispered, "I'm seriously starting to think someone at the company leaked our plans." Darcy frowned. She thought it was all too convenient as well. But now wasn't the time to dwell on that. She took out her laptop and opened the prepared proposal. "Would you like to go first, or shall I?" Darcy looked up at Zane across the table. The gaze she directed at him only made Zane's eyes grow colder. It held only unfamiliar distance, none of the jealousy or possessiveness a lover should have. Yes, Zane even wanted to see jealousy, resentment in her eyes—at least that would mean Darcy still loved him. But with how she was now, he couldn't read her at all. Did she still love him? Or... had she ever truly loved him at all?
