Everything Stolen, I Left to Become CEO

Chapter 91 I'm Absolutely Not Going Back

His slender fingers tapped lightly on the steering wheel, betraying a trace of nervousness in his heart. He wanted to know Darcy's most genuine thoughts. Even though he knew she wouldn't go back, what if? The man who was always in control found himself anxious over such a small matter. "I've already made my stance clear. I'm absolutely not going back," Darcy said, her tone flat, her gaze unwavering. Jethro loosened his tie and let out a heavy sigh. "But she said you signed a non-compete agreement with SummitCore Tech. If you don't return, you could face a lawsuit." Darcy froze. The realization hit her a moment later. So that was their game. First, Zane threatened her. Then, Zora leaked information to her boss. Their goal was to leave her isolated and helpless. How utterly vile! Fortunately, Darcy was prepared. She told Jethro, "It's fine. Let them sue. They won't win." He knew Darcy never made empty boasts. If she said this, she must have been fully prepared. Still, Jethro couldn't help but add, "The Blackwood Group's legal department is at your disposal. I'll inform the legal director tomorrow to fully assist you." Darcy's nose tingled with emotion. What a dream boss! I'm truly lucky to have a superior like this. Soon, the car pulled up at her apartment building. Darcy unbuckled her seatbelt but paused when Jethro asked, "You and Zane..."Her hands stilled on the clasp. Her voice turned cool. "It ended a long time ago." She pushed the car door open and waved to the man in the driver's seat. "Goodbye, Mr. Blackwood." Turning, she walked toward the complex. At the corner, her peripheral vision caught someone watching her from behind. Darcy tightened her grip on her bag and instinctively glanced back. There was nothing. Frowning, she quickened her pace and hurried home. Only after her figure had completely vanished from sight did Hugo dare to roll down his car window. He had parked in the distance, watching Darcy get out, wave, and say goodbye to Jethro. Even in private, she still called him "Mr. Blackwood."It seemed they really were just a regular boss and employee. Hugo lit a cigarette, took a drag, then finally turned his car around and drove away. Back home, after washing up, Darcy immediately sat down at her desk to study. With less than two months until the exam, she needed to make every second count. Fortunately, Bram was tutoring her, so math wasn't a big issue. And her major subject had always been her strength. Finishing her review session, she straightened up and stretched. Her eyes fell on her bookshelf. Two books in the middle were in the wrong order. She hadn't touched that shelf recently. It couldn't have been her. Someone had been rummaging through her books. She pulled out the books and materials from the middle. It was the contract with Stratagem Tech and the previous agreements. She knew instantly who had been there. Darcy bent down and retrieved the materials from the very bottom of the shelf. These were the documents she signed when joining SummitCore Tech—the employment contract and the so-called "non-compete agreement" Zane had mentioned. She locked these materials in a drawer. Her confidence that she wouldn't lose even if SummitCore sued her—the answer was hidden right within these two documents. The clue was in the puzzle itself. But Zora and the others hadn't bothered to examine the materials closely. They thought they had found a leverage point to scare her off. Hah, then don't blame me for humiliating them in public when the time comes! The next morning, Darcy, Ione, and Kaia sat at the breakfast table. Kaia's leg had healed enough for her to walk. Ione asked when she was going back to work.Kaia stammered, "My... my boss specifically told me to take a few more days off. There's no rush to go back." Darcy raised an eyebrow. So, Zora wants her to stay here and gather more evidence. Whatever. Let them play their games. After finishing her milk, Darcy said to Ione, "Mom, I have a business trip. I'm leaving this afternoon, back in three days." Ione exclaimed, "Oh, dear! Why are you only telling me now? I haven't had time to pack for you!" She stood up to go to Darcy's room, but Darcy grabbed her hand. Darcy smiled, "I've already packed." After breakfast, Darcy drove to the office, luggage in tow. Before leaving, she deliberately left her bedroom door unlocked. But this time, she set a trap—placing a tiny camera in an inconspicuous corner of the room. Stopped at a red light, Darcy opened the monitoring app on her phone. Sure enough, she saw Kaia, seizing the moment when Ione wasn't looking, sneak into her room on tiptoe. A triumphant smile touched Darcy's lips. This time, the entry was much smoother. Kaia didn't think much of it, assuming Darcy had simply forgotten to lock the door. How stupid this woman is! Following her memory from last time, Kaia pulled out the two files. She photographed every page and sent them all to Zora. Zora quickly replied, "Good, received. Find time to make photocopies. Make sure they're clear." Kaia texted, "Okay, will do." After a moment's thought, Zora added another instruction, "Be extremely careful. Do not alert her." Kaia replied with a smile, "Don't worry, Dr. Moss. Darcy's on a business trip. She won't be back for three days."
