Chapter 66 No Dating While She Studies

As if reading her thoughts, Jethro added, "My uncle's household lacks nothing. Think about it. He's my uncle, and I'm wealthy. How could he lack anything?" Well, that made sense. Darcy stepped forward and picked up two gift boxes. "Thank you." Jethro raised an eyebrow. "My pleasure." Alistair lived in an old faculty apartment building allocated by the university long ago. No elevator. They climbed four flights of stairs. Jethro knocked on the door. A minute later, it opened from within. The person who answered was a middle-aged woman with a graceful demeanor. If Darcy guessed right, this was Alistair's wife. But Darcy couldn't connect this kind, gentle face with the word "henpecked."Seren beamed with joy. "Jethro! Come in. Always so polite, bringing so much every time." "My grandparents asked me to deliver these," Jethro said, changing into slippers with a smile. "Don't try to sweet-talk me. Your grandparents would never ask you to deliver things," Seren said. For years, her nephew had been trying to mend the relationship between them and his grandparents. She knew it well. She was about to turn inside when she noticed a pretty girl behind her nephew. Her eyes widened in pleasant surprise. "Oh my! Jethro has a girlfriend! I wondered why you suddenly wanted to visit this morning. You're bringing her to meet us!" At that, pink rushed over Darcy's face. Even the usually composed Jethro's ears turned slightly red. Just then, Alistair emerged from the study, clearing his throat softly."Don't talk nonsense. She's not Jethro's girlfriend. She's his subordinate." He then muttered, "She's also going to be my student next year. Her name is Darcy Gale." Seren was taken aback. I got it wrong? But to her, the two looked so compatible! Upon closer look—oh, this girl was the one at her husband's birthday party last time. She'd been in the car then and hadn't seen the full face, only the profile. That's why she'd mistaken her. "Oh dear, my apologies, Ms. Gale. I was being rash. My husband is to blame. He just said Jethro and a friend were coming this morning, wasn't clear, and I misunderstood. Please, sit down. What would you like to drink? Let me get it." Darcy didn't dare let her potential future mentor's wife serve her. She quickly said, "No trouble at all. Water is fine." Jethro, however, lounged casually on the sofa, crossing his long legs. "She'll have coffee. Regular latte. Same for me." Seren laughed, "All three of you like coffee. Looks like I'm the only tea person here." With that, she went into the kitchen to make coffee. Darcy couldn't help but glance at Jethro from the corner of her eye, pressing her lips together. Her boss was observant. After coffee, it was time for lunch. Seren busied herself alone in the kitchen. Feeling awkward, Darcy offered to help. The living room was left with just Alistair and Jethro. Alistair frowned, looking at his nephew. "Did your grandparents really send a message?" Jethro was momentarily puzzled. "Nope." Alistair's frown deepened. "No? Then why are you here today?" Jethro smiled, "Seriously? I need a reason to visit my uncle?"Alistair felt something was off. The kid had been visiting unusually often lately. He used to visit, but not this frequently. Plus, this time he'd specifically brought Darcy. The previous two times he came, he'd subtly inquired about Darcy's student days. Alistair narrowed his eyes. "Are you actually setting your sights on my prized student?" Jethro paused, then gave a lazy smile. "What if I were, Uncle?" Alistair promptly slapped the table. Seren came out of the kitchen, wiping her hands. "What's going on with you two?" "Ahem, nothing. A book fell." Alistair coughed lightly, covering up. Once his wife turned away, Alistair glared fiercely at his nephew sprawled on the sofa. "Don't you dare get any ideas about my student! "Five years ago, she gave up being my student because of a man. Now she's finally determined to take the exam again. If you mess this up for me, I won't let you off easy!" A faint smile touched Jethro's lips. "So you're saying your student can't date? That's messed up." Alistair glanced toward the kitchen, where Darcy was, and pointed to his head, exasperated. "That girl... to put it nicely, she values relationships deeply. To put it bluntly, she's a bit of a romantic. So, no dating while she studies." Then he glared at his nephew again. "Are you seriously..." "No," Jethro said, sitting up straight. "I was just joking." "You brat!" Alistair scolded. But then he recalled the car accident Jethro was in five years ago. It must have left psychological scars. He probably wouldn't consider romance or marriage for a while. Alistair had an open mind. Unlike some in the Blackwood family who kept pressing the issue, he thought marrying late, or even not marrying, was perfectly fine.
