Everything Stolen, I Left to Become CEO
Watching the siblings bicker, Clara couldn't help but smile. She said to Zephyr, "Sit down. I'm happier than anyone that you and Cindy are together. I'd suspected there was something between you two for a while. But you two got a marriage license already? I didn't expect that. Quite bold." "I'm sorry, Clara. It's my fault. I encouraged Cindy," Zephyr said meekly, taking all the blame. Cindy pouted. "It's not all on him. If I weren't willing, no one could force me." "Alright, you two—cut the PDA. I'm stuffed from all the coffee; can't stomach any more of your lovey-dovey crap," Jethro said sourly. Cindy wrinkled her nose. "You didn't care about us when you and Darcy were all over each other." That got everyone's attention. Clara turned to her son. "How are things with Darcy? You two back on track?"Jethro said proudly, "We never split up, so there's nothing to 'get back to.' It's just some people who kept calling me a jerk." Cindy, the one who had labeled him, looked sheepish and quickly changed the subject. "I heard Darcy's mom hasn't accepted you yet. What's your plan?" "Wait, what? My son is this good—why wouldn't she accept him?" Clara was stunned. Well, that's a long story. Jethro said seriously, "I'll handle it. Please, everyone, don't interfere." He believed that as long as he showed Ione his sincere love for Darcy, she would accept him eventually. He was confident. That's why this weekend's visit was crucial. He needed to do extra homework online, dodging any potential landmines ahead of time. After lunch, Cindy and Zephyr went to the Blackwood Manor to see Arthur. They were nervous, prepared for a storm of anger. But to their surprise, Arthur was only briefly stunned before accepting the fact. Not only did he warmly receive Zephyr, but he also subtly inquired when they planned to have children. When Cindy recounted this to Darcy later, she was both amused and helpless. "Your grandpa is getting old," Darcy commented. "He just had a great-grandson who was taken away by Jasper before he could even get used to the idea. Now, nothing would make him happier than having new children around." Cindy rested her chin on her hand thoughtfully. "You have a point. So, after you and my brother get married, hurry up and have two kids in three years, three in five. How about that?" Darcy's face warmed. "Stop talking nonsense!" They chatted a bit more before hanging up. Darcy thought about Jethro's upcoming visit this weekend, her nerves returning. Her mother's attitude was still unclear—she couldn't make it out. She just hoped it went smoothly. Soon, the weekend arrived. After her last class, Darcy packed her books and hurried home. Just as she reached the classroom door, someone called out to her. "Prof. Reed wants to see you in his office." Darcy looked at the person—a new classmate, like her, part-time. Without suspicion, she turned and headed briskly towards the faculty offices. On the way, she messaged Jethro that she'd be home later. Just as she turned off her phone screen, she saw a familiar Maybach parked ahead, its license plate number recognizable. Darcy stopped in her tracks. The next second, Zane stepped out of the car. He walked towards her with a smile. "Darcy."Darcy frowned, taking two steps back. "What are you doing here at the university?" Zane said, "SummitCore Tech has a partnership with the school. Did you forget?" SummitCore Tech went bankrupt long ago. What partnership? Darcy didn't want to waste words. She tried to walk around him, but he grabbed her arm. "Who are you going to see? Prof. Reed?" Darcy's heart sank. "How did you know I was going to see Prof. Reed?" Then it hit her. Prof. Reed usually contacts me directly via text or has Bram pass a message. He wouldn't ask someone else to tell me. Instantly, her heart began to race. Could it be Prof. Reed didn't summon me at all? Was this Zane's doing? Darcy struggled, gritting her teeth angrily. "You had someone lure me here on purpose? Let go of me!" Zane's lips twisted into a smile. "Darcy, you're still as sharp as ever." His smile held a tinge of bitterness. "But if you're so smart, why are you tangled up with Jethro again? He's not as good as you think! I may not be clean, but how is he any better? Why would you rather get back with him than look back at me?!" His face contorted near the end. "I'm the one who loves you most!" Hearing him compare himself to Jethro, Darcy almost laughed. And when he claimed to love her the most, she wanted to puke.
