Everything Stolen, I Left to Become CEO
One document was between Jethro and Jett; the other was between Jasper and Jett. Jasper's hands trembled as he took them. When he saw the results clearly, the blood seemed to drain from his body. He stared at Annie, eyes wide. "What... what is this? How can Jett be my son? We never—" Suddenly, he remembered something. The papers in his hand crumpled. "That night...?" Annie closed her eyes. "Yes." That year, after Arthur ordered Jethro to break up with Annie, Jethro, depressed, went to a bar to drink. Annie, worried about him, rushed over by cab to keep him company. They drank until the bar closed. Jethro was dead drunk. Annie was slightly more conscious but not by much. She took a cab to get Jethro back to his apartment. She had planned to crash there for the night, but Clara unexpectedly showed up.Like Arthur, Clara's attitude towards Annie had cooled considerably. Annie had to leave in disgrace. The night was pitch black. Annie couldn't get a cab, so she called Jasper for help. Jasper took her back to his place. Neither could remember who started it, but the next morning, Annie woke up to find them both in the same bed. After that morning, both tacitly agreed never to mention the incident again. After going abroad, Annie discovered she was pregnant. But at the time, surviving on her own was a struggle; how could she raise a child? So after giving birth, she placed the baby in a welfare home. Once she found stable work, she visited her son occasionally. She had intended to bring him back, but around that time, Jasper found her. Jasper's voice was icy. "You've played me for a fool all these years. Feeling proud, huh? Watching me meet my son, hearing him call me 'Mister,' you must have thought me the biggest idiot." Annie was silent for a long time. "Believe it or not, I didn't mean to hide it from you. I was just afraid—if you knew Jett wasour son, you might try to stop me from returning." Jasper gave a cold laugh. "So you never gave up. You always dreamed of coming back to reunite with my cousin." He clenched his fists. "I was the fool!" With this, the entire truth was laid bare. Annie was soon taken away by Rhett and his team. Arthur, unable to bear the sudden family upheaval, fainted. After being examined by the family doctor, he gradually regained consciousness. Jethro comforted him at his bedside. "Don't be angry, Grandpa. Your health matters most. Besides, you didn't lose anything. You got a great-grandson, after all."Arthur glared at him. "You little rascal! Couldn't you have given me a heads-up? You made me lose all face in front of the city's elite!" Jethro rubbed his nose. "I only pieced the whole story together in the last couple of days." Arthur sighed heavily, his voice aged and weary. "Still, it's a good thing you were cautious and kept your eyes open. Otherwise, I might have gone to my grave without knowing the truth. By the way, how is Jasper?" After Annie was taken away, Jasper wasn't much better off than Arthur. He seemed drained of all spirit, his expression vacant, refusing to speak, and even needing support to walk. Jethro said, "Eli had the doctor see him. The doctor says it's a temporary muteness due to severe psychological trauma. The staff brought Jett to stay with him. He'll be fine in a few days." Arthur nodded slightly at this. Leaving Arthur's room, Jethro ran into Zephyr."Is your grandpa alright?" Zephyr asked. "He's fine," Jethro replied. The two walked side by side. Jethro straightened his cuff, asking casually, "Told Cindy everything?" Zephyr was startled, then rubbed his nose. "How did you know?" Jethro smiled, "Because you're the classic wife guy." Zephyr coughed lightly. "Pot calling the kettle black. Wait till you're married. You'll be the same." "By the way," Jethro said, "about you and Cindy, find a time to make it official with the elders. Don't drag it out." "Alright. Once your grandpa is fully recovered, Cindy and I will formally tell him." Zephyr sounded uncertain. "Do you think he'll agree?" Jethro raised an eyebrow. "Didn't you two already get a marriage license without permission?" Zephyr's brow furrowed slightly. "That was an emergency. A last resort." "Last resort?" Jethro stopped walking, patting Zephyr's shoulder. "Zephyr, you're good at everything. Except for one thing—you never see your own heart clearly." Zephyr looked at him, puzzled. Jethro smiled, "Back then, there were a hundred ways to solve that problem. Yet you chose the most extreme one. Ask your heart why you did that." In the distance, the sun hung in the sky, its orange light falling on Zephyr's profile. He stood rooted to the spot, watching silently as Jethro drove away. Yeah. There were definitely better solutions. So why did he choose to marry Cindy?
