Everything Stolen, I Left to Become CEO
Lying under a palm tree, sipping coconut water, Darcy sighed with contentment. "Nowthis is living!" Cindy wholeheartedly agreed, nodding vigorously. "I regret not coming sooner!" In the distance, two young men kept glancing their way. After a while, they walked over, faces slightly flushed. "Hi, beauties. Mind if we add you on WhatsApp?" Cindy smiled sweetly, "I'm married, so no. But my friend here is single. Good luck!" Darcy nearly choked on her coconut water. Coincidentally, Zephyr's video call came through just then. "Hello, honey?" Zephyr was about to greet her when he suddenly spotted the two unfamiliar men standing behind her.His face darkened instantly. But the face darker than his belonged to Jethro, sitting beside him. Seeing that Cindy really did have a husband and was being affectionate, the two young men redirected their attention, their flushed faces turning shyly towards Darcy. "Hi, beautiful. How long are you staying?" "...Three days." The young men immediately became eager. "We know this place really well! Want to hang out? We can show you around!" Darcy was mortified. Her gaze involuntarily shifted to Cindy. To her surprise, Cindy had, at some point, turned her phone's rear camera towards Darcy. Meaning, the entire scene of Darcy being hit on had been witnessed, in full, by a certain someone. Darcy rubbed her nose, about to refuse, but Cindy beat her to it. "That sounds great! Perfect idea! So, where are you guys staying? Free this afternoon?" The young men were thrilled. "Yeah, totally! Any time you're free, we're free. Here's our contact. Let's add on WhatsApp first?" Here we go again. Darcy looked at the phone screen with the QR code being held out, forcing a thin smile. She turned her head and shot Cindy a death glare. Cindy winked, all innocent like she couldn't help it. Yep, Cindy did it on purpose. She wanted a certain someone to know just how popular her bestie was. If you don't cherish her, plenty of others will. On the other side of the screen, Jethro's expression was indeed grim. He crossed his long legs, lounging casually on the sofa, a faint, dangerous smile on his lips. "So, no more pretense? Calling him 'honey' right in front of me?" Cindy suddenly realized her slip of the tongue. She coughed awkwardly, looking everywhere but at Jethro. "Uh... you misheard. I said 'Zeph'." Jethro let out a soft scoff. "I'm not so deaf I can't tell the difference between 'Zeph' and 'honey'. Besides, you ignored me completely and started chatting with Zephyr instead. What's wrong with you?" "Jethro, who are you saying has something wrong with them?!" Cindy slapped the table in warning. "Don't you dare tell Mom or Grandpa, or you're dead!" Faced with his sister's childish threat, Jethro remained unimpressed. He raised an eyebrow. "That depends on your performance." Cindy's eyes darted around. "What do you mean? I don't understand." "Mom? Mom, are you downstairs?" On the video call, Jethro suddenly stood up, his long legs carrying him towards the door as he called out. Cindy gritted her teeth. "Jethro, how old are you?! Still playing these silly games!"With that, she put down her phone and turned to the two young men with a bright smile. "Sorry, guys. I just remembered. My friend can't hang out with you." The guys blinked, lost. "Why?" "Uh... because she... doesn't like men." Huh? The guy stared at Darcy, then at Cindy, swallowed hard. "So you two are..." Darcy forced herself to nod. "She's right!" The young guys left, thoroughly deflated. Cindy turned back to her brother. "Satisfied?" Jethro raised an eyebrow, looking pleased. "Hmm. Not bad." It was then that Zephyr, who had been silent, spoke up, "Cindy, he tricked you. Your mom isn't home." A roar of fury erupted. "Jethro, you're the worst!" Watching the siblings bicker, Darcy's eyes crinkled with laughter. "How have you been lately?" A low, slightly hoarse male voice came through the screen. Darcy paused, unsure if he was asking her. Cindy snorted, slung an arm around Darcy's shoulders, her tone sharp with sarcasm. "Oh, she's been killing it. Total rockstar. One day it's the department head's blind date, the next it's some cute younger guy. Every single one of them is a hundred times better than a certain someone!" Jethro's eyes narrowed dangerously. "The department head's blind date?" Darcy said hurriedly, "Uh, that was actually a misunderstanding..." "What misunderstanding?" Cindy cut in. "He's clearly interested in you! Greeting you morning and night, obviously has a thing for you."
