Everything Stolen, I Left to Become CEO

Chapter 334 Reckoning

Zane was first shocked, then a cold sweat broke out down his back. In his absence, Zora had been running wild, doing all this behind the scenes. The woman was terrifying! Seeing his ashen face, the finance manager sighed again, "Mr. Vance, I shouldn't say this, but I truly believe you backed the wrong person. Ms. Gale back then genuinely had your best interests at heart. What a shame." Zane leaned against a desk, closing his eyes in despair. The third person. This was the third person recently to tell him he'd chosen wrong. But Darcy already had someone else. The memory of that man's hand resting possessively on her waist made him want to kill. His eyes bloodshot, Zane looked at the manager. "It's fine. I'll win her back. Darcy still has feelings for me. She's just confused right now." With that, he stumbled out of the office. The manager had never seen Zane so wrecked. He shook his head helplessly and sighed, "No wonder they broke up. Seven years together, and he still doesn't understand her. Someone as rational as Ms. Gale wouldn't go back to an ex." At the Moss Manor, Susan nearly fainted upon hearing her daughter had been arrested. The butler caught her just in time. Trembling, she ordered, "Get John. I need to see Zora immediately!" The butler said quietly, "Mr. Parker hasn't been home in two weeks. Didn't you know?" Susan was stunned. Two weeks? Now that she thought about it, John had started disappearing frequently right after the engagement party. "Useless man!" she spat through gritted teeth. "Never around when you need him!" She rushed to the police station with the driver, pulled strings, and finally got to see her daughter. Though only detained for half a day, Zora looked haggard. As she saw her mother, the numbness in her eyes cracked. "Mom! Get me out of here! It's filthy, it stinks! I can't stay!" Tears streamed down Susan's face. "Darling, I will. I'll get you out. No matter the cost!" At the mention of money, Zora broke down again. "Mom, the plan failed! SummitCore is bankrupt! No IPO! The stock options we bought at a premium are worthless now! It's over. Everything's over!" Susan had already heard about SummitCore. On the way here, she'd braced for the worst. She grasped her daughter's hands, sobbing. "It doesn't matter. We still have a place to live, food to eat. As long as you're okay, that matters more than anything."But Zora couldn't accept it. She'd invested so much time, emotion, and had even hollowed out the Moss Group for this. How could she give up? Suddenly, she remembered someone. She clutched her mother's hands urgently. "Mom, contact Lucian. If we can reach him, we can still turn this around!" Susan latched onto this lifeline. "Yes! I'll find him." After leaving the detention center, Susan focused on two tasks. First, hire a lawyer to get her daughter out—no matter the price or bail, she'd find a way. Second, contact Lucian. The first task proceeded smoothly. The second proved impossible. His phone was disconnected. A few days later, Zora was released. Sitting on the living room sofa, she again tried to call Lucian. At the same moment, an anonymous email automatically downloaded onto the study computer. Puzzled, Susan opened it. After reading the contents, she let out a sharp cry and slammed the laptop shut. Hearing the scream from upstairs, Zora raced up. "Mom! What's wrong?" Susan was trembling violently. "N-nothing." It was clearly not nothing. Zora's eyes fell on the closed laptop. She reached to open it. "No, Zora, don't!" Susan cried, trying to hold her daughter back. Zora didn't get it. "Mom, what's going on?" Susan shut her eyes. The room spun. "It's karma. All of it—karma." "Mom, what are you talking about?" Zora pushed her mother's arms aside and opened the laptop. The email on the screen filled her vision."Zora, by the time you read this, you will be at the lowest point of your life. You have actually been very fortunate, having enjoyed far more happiness than you ever deserved. I could have ended you directly. I chose not to. Because the best revenge is to let someone fall from the very pinnacle of their hopes into the abyss. Ella Garland. Perhaps you've forgotten her name. But I will never forget it for the rest of my life. Heaven sent her to me when I was at my most destitute; she was an angel who saved my bleak, impoverished existence. We were at our happiest when her depression returned. She took her own life. Only then did the truth you and your family buried finally see daylight."
