Everything Stolen, I Left to Become CEO
Hearing her son's reasoning, Olena felt something was off, too. But she was indecisive, her life's anchor always being Viktor. In moments like this, she instinctively looked to him. "Darling, what do you think?" Viktor's brow was deeply furrowed as he cast a cold glance at Zora and her mother. "True or not, we need emergency PR. Get those trending topics taken down immediately before this snowballs. As for who's behind the slander, the Moss family will need to assist in the investigation." He immediately ordered his assistant to handle it. Under any other circumstances, Viktor would never tap the Vance family's resources. But today, if the mess wasn't cleaned up, the entire family's reputation would be tarnished. With the head of the Vance family stepping in to manage the fallout, Zora and Susan breathed another sigh of relief. Still, they couldn't just skip the toasting part of the ceremony—or people would laugh. Susan ventured cautiously, "Mr. Harlan Vance, the guests are still waiting for the newly engaged couple. Perhaps we should go out and—" "No," Harlan interjected, his tone brooking no argument. "The toasts are canceled. Viktor, you will personally apologize to the key guests." Zora bit her lip, humiliation burning in her eyes. "But Grandpa, this is my big day—" She wanted to say more, but Susan covered her mouth. "Mr. Harlan Vance, you're right. We'll handle the aftermath. You must be tired—please get some rest." Susan forced a smile. Harlan gave a dismissive grunt and, assisted by an attendant, swiftly left the hotel. Viktor and Olena headed for the ballroom.Backstage was now empty except for the Moss family and Zane. Zora seethed. "It's our engagement. We're the main event! If word gets out that we were forbidden from toasting, we'll be the laughingstock of the city!" "Enough, that's not what matters now," Susan tried to soothe her. "How can it not matter?" Tears welled in Zora's eyes. "It was supposed to be the day of my life, and I was treated like this! Mom, this sucks." "Enough!" Zane pinched the bridge of his nose. "Instead of complaining, use your energy to think. Who have you pissed off lately? Who posted that crap?" Zora was fuming. Her meticulously planned engagement party, her proud position as the future Mrs. Vance, the envy and admiration she'd imagined—all of it had evaporated. How could she accept this?! As she stewed in silence, Zane narrowed his eyes, his voice sharp. "You're sure everything online is fabricated?"Zora's face paled visibly, the temporary relief vanishing. She swallowed hard. "O-Of course it is! All lies!" Zane lit a cigarette, his movements agitated. "Then who set you up? Think. Who have you offended recently?" "I—" How was Zora supposed to know who the hell had dug up her past and chose today of all days to air it? Suddenly, an idea struck her. A cold smile twisted her lips. "Who else? It has to be that bitch, Darcy!" "What?" Zane exhaled a cloud of smoke, immediately dismissing it. "Impossible. She wouldn't do that." He had to admit, since their breakup, Darcy had changed. She wasn't as accommodating as before. But deep down, Zane believed Darcy was inherently decent. She would never fabricate lies or spread malicious rumors. Hearing him defend Darcy, Zora mocked, "Please. I kindly invited her and her mom, and she accused me of kidnapping. Yet, she decided to stay anyway. Doesn't that seem like she was planning revenge? Yes, that's it! She must have concocted all this to get back at me!" Susan also found her daughter's logic plausible. "That makes sense. Zora's words on stage were meant as sincere gratitude, but Darcy could have easily misinterpreted them as an insult. In a fit of anger, hiring trolls to spread rumors isn't beyond her." Their words planted a seed of doubt in Zane's mind. He frowned. Could it really be Darcy? Has she changed that much in less than a year? He sighed inwardly, a cold glint flashing in his eyes. If it really was her, he wouldn't hold back. The Vance family's honor—and his own future within it—were at stake. He had no choice. After a moment's thought, he said, "If that's the case, call the cops. Let them handle it. Whoever is behind this will face the consequences."Call the cops? Zora and Susan exchanged a panicked look. Only they knew the online posts weren't fabrications; they were based in truth. If the police got involved and uncovered the reality, how could they possibly hide it? Zora's mind raced. She wrapped her arms around Zane's, her voice softening into a pleading tone. "Zane, let's not rush to the police. Your dad's team is already handling the PR. And now that we suspect who it is, I can deal with her privately."
