Everything Stolen, I Left to Become CEO

Chapter 251 She Actually Sued Him!

What? She really went to sue him?! Susan flew into a rage, slapping the court summons against John's face. "Didn't you say she wouldn't dare? Hah! Not only did she dare to sue, she's asking for five million dollars! She must be out of her mind!" "I didn't think she'd actually go through with it either." John mumbled, "Susan, I... I was thinking of hiring a lawyer to—" "Don't even dream about it!" Susan cut him off coldly before he could finish. "You really want to make a spectacle of yourself in court? You're the Vice President of Moss Group. If word gets out that the VP is being sued by his own daughter for unpaid child support, what face do the Moss Group and I have left?" She took a deep breath, forcing her voice lower. "Besides, Zora and Zane's engagement is just around the corner. What would the Vances think if they found out their future father-in-law is being sued? It would utterly humiliate Zora!""So what do you want me to do?" John asked, wiping his brow. "Settle it privately. Make your pathetic daughter drop the lawsuit. What it costs or what deal you strike, I don't care! Humph, if this isn't resolved before Zora's engagement party, you can go live with your ex!" John wiped the cold sweat from his forehead, stammering, "Susan, don't worry. I'll handle this. I won't let it cause the Moss family or Zora any trouble." Hmph, that girl's probably just bluffing. No way she'd actually sue. He felt the envelope in his hand again. Could it be a fake? Fake or not, he needed to contact Darcy first. Once he got a hold of her, he'd teach her a proper lesson. The sheer audacity! I haven't even sued her for neglecting her filial duties, and she dares to sue me first for child support! The mere thought made his temples throb. After taking a few heart pills, John tried calling Darcy. He called her over and over. Nothing. Dead air. His messages went unanswered, too. Furious, he nearly threw his phone, but stopped himself just in time. If I break it, I'll have to buy a new one. He was broke and hated begging, so he forced his raised hand back down. With no other option, John went to Stratagem Tech to find Darcy. The receptionist informed him that she was out of town on a business trip and wouldn't be back for a week. John, boiling over, snapped and started cursing Darcy—calling her an unfilial daughter who dared sue her own father. But before his tirade could truly begin, security guards swiftly grabbed him by the arms. "Hello, officer? We've got a disturbed man causing a scene at our building. Please come take him in."Just like that, John landed himself a three-day detention and a warning. As for Darcy, she really was out of town on a business trip with Cindy. When Cindy heard about John being hauled off to the police station by security, she burst out laughing, totally losing her composure. "You called it! You knew he'd show up at the company and make a scene." Darcy lowered her eyes, a trace of mockery curling at the corner of her mouth. "A man like him will stop at nothing to get what he wants." John was a selfish, petty man who only ever thought of himself. It never occurred to him how his actions might make things difficult for Darcy at work. Fortunately, Darcy had prepared for this. Still, she couldn't push him too far, lest a cornered dog bite back. So, she sent a message to her lawyer, Mara, detailing John's visit and his attempt to confront her. From here on out, she'd let Mara handle the communication with John. Darcy was confident that with Mara's professional expertise, John wouldn't gain any advantage. The good news didn't stop there. Back at their hotel, Cindy received some exciting news of her own. "Darcy! Major breakthrough!" Darcy looked up, puzzled. "Hmm? What breakthrough?" They hadn't even met with the client's CEO on this trip yet. Waving her phone excitedly, Cindy explained, "Great news from overseas! The private investigator finally found a lead!" Darcy's eyes lit up. "What is it? Tell me." "The PI found out that Zora was reported by classmates for cheating during her undergrad and master's programs, but the universities never followed through. That's not all. During her master's, someone anonymously reported that her thesis was ghostwritten. It caused a stir for a while, but again, nothing came of it. Cindy leaned in, her voice dropping to a dramatic whisper. "And the craziest part? The PI visited her supposed doctoral university. Not a single professor or faculty member had ever heard her name!" Darcy's eyes widened. That meant Zora's doctorate was completely fake! Cindy spat out in disgust, "I thought all her degrees were just bought, but I never imagined her PhD was a complete fraud! How ridiculous. Everyone respectfully calls her 'Dr. Moss,' but it's just an empty title. "Oh, and one more thing. While investigating Zora's past abroad, the PI discovered her private life was messy, to say the least. There was a man constantly by her side for years. That man must know all of Zora's dirty secrets. Finding him could make our job twice as easy." A man? Could it be Lucian?Darcy recalled gossip from her former SummitCore Tech colleagues—the ones who had jumped ship to Stratagem Tech. They said Lucian had been parachuted into SummitCore, reportedly on Zora's personal recommendation.
