Everything Stolen, I Left to Become CEO
"I've already given her your contact. She'll add you later. I've also roughly explained the situation with John to her. You'll need to provide her with the specific details and the divorce agreement from back then." Darcy's heart stirred. Her eyelashes trembled uncontrollably. "Thank you." He had helped her several times, yet she— Darcy felt a pang of guilt. She had so little to offer him in return. "I—" Jethro raised a finger just in time, pressing it gently against her lips. He chuckled softly, "Let me guess. You were going to say, 'I'll work hard in the future to repay you.'" Darcy blushed. "Th-that's all I really know how to do." As if to prove her ability, she immediately said, "I met with Mr. Winston from Aethelburg Bank at noon. He's very interested in our new product. We should be able to secure the order—a 15 million dollar contract." "My Darcy is amazing!" Jethro pinched her cheek. "But that's not enough for me. "Do you remember the favor you owed me?" Darcy remembered. It was about Mia going to prison. Jethro had helped a lot. At the time, she had promised she owed him a favor and would do anything he asked later. She immediately tensed up. "You can't ask for something too unreasonable." Jethro smiled, "Stacking favors... Is it unreasonable for me to ask for one thing?" "Not at all." Darcy shook her head innocently. "Darcy, how about we try dating? A three-month probationary period. If I pass the assessment, you can make it official. If I don't, we go back to being just friends. Hmm?" His sexy voice was unconsciously alluring. Something soft unfurled inside her.So humble. A man of his status, yet humbly asking for a three-month probation. Darcy's throat felt tight. "I... I don't know—" A light kiss landed on the corner of her mouth. Jethro said gently, "No need to rush to refuse. Take your time and think about it. I have plenty of patience." After a long silence in the car, they finally composed themselves and entered the elevator. Darcy remembered the doubts in her mind. She turned her head and asked, "I got a weird anonymous text lately. Also, Aethelburg Bank came to us proactively." "Hmm, so?" Jethro didn't understand. Darcy swallowed. "Is all this... your doing?" Jethro was taken aback for a moment, then the corners of his mouth lifted into a smile. "Not this time." Not this time—so he had before?Darcy keenly caught the loophole in his words. "Which ones before were your doing?" Jethro rubbed his nose and raised an eyebrow at her. "Want to know?" "Yeah." He suddenly leaned in, close to her ear. "Say yes, and I'll tell you." Heat flared at the tips of her ears. The elevator chimed right then. She pushed him away, strode out of the elevator, and took a few deep breaths before turning her head to glare fiercely at the man still inside. The elevator doors slowly closed. Jethro looked at her gently and curved his lips into a smile. Only then did Darcy see clearly— Her eyes widened with shock. "Mr. Bla—" But it was too late. The elevator doors had already shut. She frantically pressed the call button, but the nearest elevator was on the first floor. It would take five minutes to come up. Helplessly, she took out her phone to call Jethro. Unfortunately, during his noon meeting, Jethro had put his phone on silent mode out of respect. Right now, he couldn't hear it at all. Darcy had to send him a message, "There's lipstick on the corner of your mouth! Wipe it off before you go into the office!" A good while passed with no reply. Darcy closed her eyes in resignation. Forget it. It's not me who's going to be embarrassed anyway. Jethro took the elevator directly to the top floor. The executive office staff were bustling, preparing for the upcoming board meeting. Seeing the boss come in from outside, they hurriedly stood up. "Good afternoon, Mr. Blackwood." Jethro nodded in acknowledgment. But he noticed the way everyone was looking at him seemed a bit off. Why did they all look dumbfounded? Where was their usual sharpness? He frowned. "What's wrong? Something to say?" They exchanged glances and hurriedly shook their heads. "No, nothing." Jethro didn't pay it much mind. He strode with long steps to his office door. Rowan stood up with some documents and followed. "Mr. Blackwood, there are two documents needing your signature. These two are, um..." Suddenly, his gaze landed on the corner of the boss' mouth. His voice trailed off. "What is it?" Jethro pushed the door open, loosened his cuffs, and looked back at the hesitant Rowan. Rowan kept his eyes down, unsure if he should say it. Jethro frowned. "Spit it out. You know my rules." Summoning his courage, Rowan spoke in a faint voice, "There's... there's a lipstick mark on the corner of your mouth.""What?" The boss clearly didn't catch that. Rowan got anxious. He gestured as he spoke, "There's a lipstick mark on the corner of your mouth. Ahem... Super obvious." Jethro froze.
