Everything Stolen, I Left to Become CEO
Tears streamed down her face as she looked pleadingly at Rhett. "Officer, I'm being framed. Who reported it? Tell me her name!" Rhett gave a light chuckle. Shame she isn't an actress. If he hadn't seen the evidence beforehand, he might have believed her innocence. "The person who reported it is Darcy, also a member of your base project team. You should know her well." Mia froze; her crying stopped. "She's framing me! She did it on purpose!" Bram was also stunned, but he believed Darcy wouldn't report someone without evidence. His gaze turned cold and hard on Mia. "Just confess honestly!" Mia was taken away. That afternoon, she refused to say anything, even threatening to get a lawyer. But when the complete chain of evidence was laid before her, her face turned ashen. When asked if she had accomplices, Mia hesitated for a moment, then her bright eyes fixed on Rhett. "If I name my accomplice, can I get a reduced sentence?" Hearing that, Rhett immediately sat up straight. So Darcy was right. There is an accomplice. "Whether you can get a reduced sentence depends on your cooperation. If you show good remorse and provide more crucial information, a reduction can be considered." To Mia, these words were like a dying fish on the shore finally finding water. "I'll talk! Darcy and I actually had no grudge. I was just jealous seeing her always close to Bram. But I never wanted to harm her. Zora made me do it!" she said excitedly. Rhett's eyes sharpened. "Who is Zora? And why would she want to harm Darcy?" Mia replied, "Zora is the Vice President of SummitCore Tech and the girlfriend of the company's CEO. She wanted to take down Darcy because Darcy is the CEO's ex. They're rivals in love." Well— Rhett was momentarily speechless. He sorted out the relationships in his head and finally understood. So it all comes down to a matter of love. Next, Mia talked through it herself—how she and Zora plotted together, teamed up with that overseas hacker group to break into the base network, and stole the team's and Darcy's research results. Based on the confession, Rhett quickly summoned Zora for questioning. When Zora heard she'd been summoned, her head rang like a bell. She cried out to her mother, "Mom, save me! I'm being framed!" Even Susan, seasoned in the business world with nerves of steel, was stunned seeing her daughter taken away in handcuffs. As soon as she pulled herself together, she chased after them. "Officers, there's gotta be a mistake! How could my daughter get mixed up in illegal hacking and stealing research work? My daughter's got a PhD! She's got tons of her own research—really impressive stuff! She wouldn't even glance at other people's work!" Rhett maintained a strictly professional attitude. "The suspect confessed to acting under your daughter's direction. Please cooperate with our investigation. If she truly did nothing wrong, we won't wrongfully accuse her." Hearing that, Zora turned as white as paper, her body stiff as a board. Mia was arrested? But how? Weren't the overseas hackers supposed to delete the system logs? It shouldn't be traceable to her! Zora's mind raced, recalling all her interactions with Mia. Thankfully, I've always been careful. I deleted all records after each contact and told Mia to do the same.Thinking this, she managed to maintain a thin layer of calm on her face. Before getting into the car, Zora turned and shouted to Susan, "Mom, contact a lawyer! Get the best one!" Susan wiped her tears. "Okay!" At the station, Zora firmly denied all of Mia's accusations, instead counter-accusing the reporter, Darcy, of deliberately slandering her. She had strong counter-surveillance instincts. Rhett questioned her all afternoon without getting anything. In the end, the suspect remained silent, stating she wouldn't say another word until her lawyer arrived. "Ms. Gale, this might take some time. Zora is highly agitated. We'll question her again tomorrow," Rhett said, exhaustion weighing on him as he rubbed his brow. Darcy could easily imagine Zora's reaction. "Thank you, Officer Foster. I appreciate your hard work." Leaving the police station, Darcy received a call from Cindy. Cindy said excitedly, "Darcy! I heard that bitch Zora was arrested! So satisfying! You absolutely cannot accept a settlement! Make sure she goes to jail!" "Yeah, don't worry, I won't accept a settlement. It's just—" "What is it?" "Zora's straight-up denying all the accusations—she's even trying to flip it, saying I'm deliberately slandering her. The Moss family's probably getting her a lawyer. She won't say a word till the lawyer shows up." Cindy was furious. "I'm so pissed! How can someone be that shameless? She's still framing you at a time like this—argh!" But then she switched to comforting Darcy. "Don't worry. The Moss family won't be able to hire any lawyers in Aethelburg." Darcy frowned. "Huh? What do you mean?"
