Everything Stolen, I Left to Become CEO

Chapter 193 A Car Collision

Outsiders only saw the glamour of a society wife. Who knew her struggles and her endurance? After over two decades of marriage, her husband treated her like a housekeeper. The slightest mistake would earn her a scolding. If he found out she hadn't handled this mess properly, he'd probably kill her. Kaia shrugged. "Well then, I'll just go find the father of my child. I didn't go to him first because I thought you'd be more reasonable. But I guess not... sigh..." Wendy stopped her again. "Don't go to him either." Her son was currently going on blind dates with girls from good families. If he found out about this, who knew what trouble he'd cause? The best move was to quietly get rid of the bastard in her belly before anyone else found out. Wendy took a deep breath and instructed the butler, "Fetch the keys to the penthouse in the city center for Ms. Lark." "Yes." The butler left to retrieve them. Kaia watched, a triumphant smile tugging at her lips. "And what about my living expenses during this time?" Wendy shot her a glare. "Until we have an agreement, the household staff will see to your needs." Leaving the villa, Kaia was practically beaming. Turns out not going directly to Ines was the right call. He might seem easygoing, but he's actually heartless and ruthless, nothing like Hugo. The women of the house really are easier to fool. She rode the Cross family's luxury car toward the penthouse during rush hour, the heavy traffic soon made her queasy—a common pregnancy symptom. Fighting down nausea, she ordered the driver, "Change lanes, take a shortcut. I'm going to be sick."The driver looked troubled. "It's rush hour. Changing lanes abruptly is risky." "Don't argue! Just do what I say!" The driver, sweating, tried to change lanes. And, as expected, an accident happened. They rear-ended the car in front. However, when Kaia saw the woman stepping out of the front car, a smirk curled her lips. Long time no see, Darcy. Darcy had been in the rush hour crawl when her car was jolted from behind. She pulled over to the side, ready to discuss the matter with the other driver. She didn't expect to see Kaia getting out of the other car. The driver was a man she didn't recognize, looking nervous and apologetic. "You're at fault. I'm calling the police," Darcy said to the driver, pointing to the dent on her bumper. The driver nodded repeatedly. "Yes, yes, our fault. We admit it." But Kaia wasn't having it. She curled her lip. "Ugh, such a small thing and you're calling the cops? What a waste of time. Besides, your Mercedes only has a scratch. My Maybach is way more expensive than your car, and I'm not even making a fuss." Darcy glanced at the Maybach. Hmm, top-of-the-line, latest model. Very fancy. She looked away, dialing her phone. "Let the police decide liability." Seeing Darcy's dismissive attitude ignited Kaia's anger. Who does she think she is, ignoring me like this?! I'm about to marry into the Cross family, become a society wife. And her? Still just a wage slave. Our lives will be completely different from now on! All those people who praised her and looked down on me will regret it! Kaia snatched the phone from Darcy's hand, frowning. "I'm not feeling well. I don't have time to wait for the police. Just tell me, how much do you want? I'll pay you!" Kaia mentioned feeling unwell. Darcy's gaze instinctively dropped to her stomach. Last time at the hospital, her belly had looked slightly rounded. Could it be... "That's right, I'm pregnant. And soon, I'll be marrying into a wealthy family," Kaia declared proudly, not bothering to hide it. Her suspicion confirmed, Darcy showed little surprise, offering a faint smile. "Congratulations." Seeing Darcy remain so calm only annoyed Kaia more. Keep pretending. Inside, you're dying of jealousy. "Fifty grand should cover it, right? If not, I can add more," Kaia said magnanimously, as if money were nothing. Darcy replied, "That's enough." More than enough, actually.Kaia turned and jerked her chin at the driver. "Call your boss. Ask for the money." The driver was speechless. So generous, and I thought you were paying out of your own pocket. Turns out you're just making me beg my boss for money. The call connected quickly. The driver spoke cautiously, "Mrs. Cross, apologies. We had a minor collision. Ms. Lark isn't feeling well and wants to settle privately. It'll be 50 grand." On the other end, Wendy felt a vein throb at her temple. She gritted her teeth. "That money-burning woman!" But thinking of Kaia's personality, she might just make a scene. Her son's reputation would be ruined! Fine. It's just 50 grand. Pay it. Soon, the money was transferred to the driver's account, who then sent it to Darcy. Kaia flipped her hair, speaking in a tone of grand benevolence. "Keep it. I know that's a lot for someone like you, but for me, it's just the price of a handbag. From now on, my child and I will want for nothing. We'll live very happily."
