Everything Stolen, I Left to Become CEO
"Still denying it? What are the odds I show up, and you're leaving with that pretty boy? Wasn't it just to make me see?" Zane retorted. Darcy let out a laugh born of anger. "Zane, since when did you become so full of yourself? By your logic, everyone in this restaurant came here just to bump into you, right? Get over yourself!" Zane choked, his face darkening. The woman who once adored him was now telling him to get over himself. Only he knew the true depth of that fall. "Darcy, stop messing around. I know you still have feelings for me." Darcy closed her eyes briefly. "You should know my character by now. I never play games with people's feelings." Zane pressed his lips together. "Then when are you coming back to me?" I'm done. Just... done. Darcy gritted her teeth. "Zane, are you planning to two-time? Aren't you afraid Dr. Moss would be heartbroken?" Zane looked away. "There's nothing between Zora and me." "Hah. You're not planning to marry her?" "I—" Zane fell silent. His hypocrisy disgusted her. He clearly loved Zora, yet he wouldn't let Darcy go. It was blatant two-timing. Seizing the moment of distraction, Darcy stomped hard on his foot. Zane grunted in pain and released his grip. Darcy immediately yanked her car door open, got in, and drove off without a backward glance. Zane stood rooted on the sidewalk for a long time, staring blankly. Only when Zora called his phone did he snap out of it. The next morning, Darcy arrived at the office. Just as she settled in, Elliott from IT came by. "Good morning, Ms. Gale. Technicians are coming to service the server room today. The network will be down for half a day. Please use the wired connection temporarily." He had reminded her the day before. This was just a follow-up to ensure the boss remembered. Darcy hadn't forgotten. She nodded at him. "Okay, got it." As Elliott walked away, she noticed Jax glancing over from the meeting area. A faint smile touched Darcy's lips. She deliberately took out the R&D plan and placed it prominently on her desk. To avoid looking too obvious, she worked for a little while longer before leaving her office for the restroom. Once she left, Cade and Cindy, who were seated not far from her door, also got up and departed. Soon, the entire executive office area was empty. In the restroom, Darcy opened her phone to a live monitoring feed. The camera above her office door was offline due to the network outage, but she had placed a miniature camera inside her office. If Jax entered, his every move would be recorded. He didn't disappoint. Five minutes later, he slipped into her office. The plan on the desk was right there. He snatched it up, his eyes darting nervously around the empty space. To be sure, he flipped through it. Detailed content, diagrams, charts—this was definitely the right file. Five million dollars... Five million dollars... It's almost mine! An uncontrollable grin spread across his face. Clutching the plan, his heart raced with excitement. He turned to leave, only to freeze. Darcy stood in the doorway.Jax's face drained of color. Thud. The file dropped to the floor. Darcy smiled coolly, picking it up. "Mr. Steel, so you're very interested in next year's R&D plan? If that's the case, why not ask me instead of stealing it?" Jax's heart pounded. He forced a weak smile. "It wasn't stealing! I was just... curious. Anyway, Ms. Gale, I won't disturb you. I have work to do." He tried to sidestep her. "Hold on." Darcy stopped him. "Mr. Steel, care to explain why you entered my office without permission?" She showed him the surveillance video on her phone and let out a cold chuckle. "Everyone knows my office is off-limits unless invited. Let me guess who you were going to give this to. SummitCore?" A chill ran down Jax's spine. He instinctively looked up at the ceiling. The cameras were supposed to be down, so how... "I placed a miniature camera inside the office." Even someone as dim as Jax realized it now. He'd been set up! Darcy had laid a trap, and he'd walked right into it. What a vicious woman! His body began to tremble uncontrollably. "I—I didn't! You're framing me!" There was only one way out now—deny everything to the bitter end. Without concrete evidence, she couldn't touch him. "You want evidence? I have plenty," Darcy said, raising an eyebrow. "Where should I start?" Right on cue, Elliott and Cindy hurried over. Elliott held up a stack of printouts. "Ms. Gale, these are records of Mr. Steel's illicit communications with external parties."Jax's eyes widened with fury. The server maintenance was just a cover! They used it to access the logs on my computer! Despicable! Shameless! He gasped for air. "It's not true! You're all framing me!"
