Everything Stolen, I Left to Become CEO

Chapter 108 The Bombshell Contract

"Honorable Arbitrator, I have crucial supplementary evidence to submit." With that, she respectfully handed a document to the assistant, who passed it to the arbitrator. The arbitrator looked at the file, and his eyes widened. He turned sharply to look at Zora on the other side. Zora's heart leaped to her throat. She pressed her lips together. "May I ask what this document is?" "See for yourselves," the arbitrator said, his expression visibly displeased, tossing the file onto the table in front of Zora. Zora picked it up. It was Darcy's employment contract with SummitCore Tech—a five-year-old, open-ended contract. Zora and Zane pored over every page but couldn't grasp why the arbitrator had reacted so strongly. They exchanged a confused, worried glance, neither speaking. Finally, Zora steadied herself and asked, "My apologies, Arbitrator, but I fail to understand what issue this contract points to?" The arbitrator adjusted his glasses, his sharp gaze fixed on her. "First, please confirm whether this contract is genuine." Zora, having joined the company later, couldn't confirm. She looked at Zane. Zane nodded. "The contract is genuine." The arbitrator's face immediately turned cold, his tone impatient. "Are you both wasting everyone's time? Is she even subject to a non-compete with this? This is ridiculous!" Zora and Zane stiffened. What was happening? Why had the arbitrator's attitude shifted so dramatically and completely in Darcy's favor?Had she bribed him? No, he had clearly been leaning towards them at the start. Then the problem must be with... the contract! Zora frantically scanned the document again. What was wrong with it? She had no idea! On the other side, Darcy and Cindy sat back calmly, observing their panic with faint amusement. Cindy, however, was also burning with curiosity. "What kind of magic does that contract hold? How did we turn the tables so fast?" "Want to know?" Darcy asked with a slight smile. "Yes!" Cindy nodded emphatically. Darcy replied, "Then I shall be merciful and enlighten you." As she spoke, Zora and Zane across the room also looked over, their expressions tense. Darcy explained calmly, "I only ever signed one employment contract with SummitCore. My position on that contract was listed as 'Assistant.' Labor law stipulates that non-compete agreements generally apply to senior management, senior technical personnel, and others with confidentiality obligations. I was merely a lowly assistant. I shouldn't have been asked to sign a non-compete in the first place." A confident smile touched her lips. "In other words, the non-compete agreement I signed with SummitCore was inherently invalid. Therefore, there can be no breach." At these words, Zane and Zora's faces paled dramatically. Zane clenched his fists. It was true. Darcy had initially been hired as his personal assistant. She had later transferred departments and roles. But why hadn't a new contract been issued? Zane massaged his temples. He remembered now.Just two months ago, Lucy, the HR manager, had asked if they should issue Darcy a new contract. He had hesitated and delayed it. The reason for his hesitation was simple—the job title. Lucy had suggested the new contract list her position as "Vice President," as Zane had privately hinted at promoting Darcy. But later, after reconnecting with Zora, he felt the VP title was no longer appropriate for Darcy. So, issuing a new contract had been put off indefinitely. Seeing Zane's expression, Zora guessed there was a story behind it. But she couldn't accept this. She never lost! "Arbitrator," she said, raising her voice, "however her contract was written, Darcy's actual role during her tenure was Sales Manager. Even if the contract wasn't updated for various reasons, her de facto position was senior management, which falls within the scope of personnel who can be subject to non-compete agreements." Darcy let out a cold laugh. Now she remembers I was a Sales Manager? Too bad I don't accept that! Darcy immediately countered, "Dr. Moss, you're too kind. Where would I get the qualifications to be a manager? After my transfer, I was just a regular employee. Don't believe me? Just a month ago, Mr. Vance himself said as much in front of many people. There are numerous witnesses who can attest to this." A month ago, Zane had indeed said those words. His exact quote: "Darcy is just a regular employee. Let's be precise with titles around here." Darcy smiled faintly, "Dr. Moss, Mr. Vance, I'd advise you to be precise as well." Zane's face turned ashen. No one could have predicted that his offhand remark from a month ago would become a bullet, fired today with perfect accuracy straight into his own chest. The outcome of the arbitration was clear. Darcy had won. The arbitrator issued the ruling on the spot. The assistant took the document for stamping, then delivered the stamped arbitration result to both parties. Cindy was practically bursting with triumph. She immediately took a photo and posted it on her Instagram. "Justice served! So satisfying!" she wrote, unable to resist giving Darcy a celebratory hug. By the time their celebration ended, the two figures on the opposite side had already vanished.
