Everything Stolen, I Left to Become CEO

Chapter 103 An Uninvited Lunch Guest

Lena Lynn was the company's only admin staff, also doubling as the receptionist, responsible for incoming and outgoing mail and packages. Hearing this, Lena quickly pulled up the log. Every delivery was meticulously recorded in her computer spreadsheet. She clicked open the Excel file, searched for Darcy's name, and blinked. "Ms. Gale, there's no record." Darcy frowned. "What about the packages?" Lena searched again and shook her head. "Nothing there either." Darcy surveyed the reception area. Noticing a security camera above, she said, "Pull up the surveillance footage from the past week." "It's on this computer, Ms. Gale. Here you go." Lena accessed the dedicated monitoring system. Darcy clicked through the videos one by one. The footage only showed mail and packages being delivered and picked up, but she couldn't clearly identify any specific letters addressed to her. Just as she was about to exit, Darcy suddenly saw Jax's partial figure appear in one frame. Her eyes widened slightly. A possibility immediately came to mind. She rewound and replayed the segment repeatedly, but there was only that one brief glimpse. He didn't appear before or after that point. Darcy suspected Jax had taken and destroyed the letter, but she had no concrete evidence. Confronting him directly wouldn't be wise. Back in her office, Darcy focused on her work. Some big fish needed to keep making mistakes before they could be caught in one net. ... Saturday, Darcy went to the library as usual to study."Darcy! Long time no see!" As soon as she sat down, Gwen hurried over, enthusiastically pulling out the chair opposite her. If she disregarded the fact that Gwen was Hugo's cousin, Darcy actually quite liked her. She was sweet, bubbly, and refreshingly genuine. Who wouldn't find that endearing? But she couldn't just disregard that connection. Hugo was a close friend of Zane and Zora, and Darcy was about to face his friends in a legal battle. She and Hugo were inevitably on opposite sides. All morning, Gwen clearly wanted to chat, but Darcy remained focused, diligently working through practice problems. Finally, Gwen found her opportunity. Darcy, returning from the restroom, was cornered by Gwen at the library entrance. "Darcy, you've been studying so intently, you must be exhausted! Let me give you a little massage to help you relax!"Darcy was stunned. Yeah, that's a no from me. But Gwen was already in motion, gently pushing Darcy into a plush armchair by the entrance. Her soft hands began kneading Darcy's shoulders like little kitten paws. "Is that comfortable, Darcy?" she asked cheerfully as she massaged. Students passing by the busy entrance couldn't help but glance at the scene. Darcy looked up at her. "You need a favor, don't you?" Gwen's face immediately flushed, her intentions seen through. "What is it? Just tell me," Darcy prompted. Gwen quickly crouched beside her chair, looking up like a pleading stray kitten. "Darcy, I wasn't massaging you just because I need a favor! I genuinely admire you. "You're like a goddess in my eyes. I hope I can be like you after I graduate." After their few interactions, Gwen had grown to admire Darcy more and more. She was capable, kind, and most importantly, sincere and straightforward in how she dealt with people. Compared to the other young women in her social circle, Darcy was on a whole different level. Darcy didn't take the flattery too seriously. She smiled faintly and asked, "Okay, I won't overthink it. What's on your mind? I prefer people being direct." "Well..." Gwen began, "Exams finish next month, right before Thanksgiving Day. I managed to get tickets to a concert. I was hoping to go with Bram, but he said he already has plans with you for Thanksgiving and can't make it." Darcy was completely taken aback. What? Bram has Thanksgiving plans with me? News to her. But after a moment's thought, she understood. Bram was obviously using her as an excuse. It was obvious to anyone that Gwen had feelings for Bram, and Bram didn't like her back. Darcy pressed her lips together, mentally cursing Bram. Why drag me into this? Couldn't he just say he's busy with his thesis? As much as she wanted to curse him out, she had to save face. She owed him for months of free tutoring. After a brief pause, Darcy said, "My plans are flexible. It really depends on Bram's availability. You should talk to him directly." Having grown up in high society, Gwen was no fool. Reading Darcy's expression, she knew the whole "Thanksgiving plans" story was nonsense! "Okay, Darcy," Gwen said, linking her arm with Darcy's. "Let's have lunch together later. Please?" Darcy had no defense against her puppy-dog eyes and playful pleading. She sighed in resignation. "Alright." When the time came, the two headed to the cafeteria. Gwen insisted on eating something better, so they went to the top floor.Quest University's canteen had great vibes. At first glance, it looked just like a fancy restaurant. They had just ordered when Gwen's phone on the table buzzed. "Hello? Hey, Hugo?" Darcy froze. Hugo is here? Already? Gwen leaned forward, asking Darcy sheepishly, "My cousin's here. He hasn't had lunch yet. Would it be okay if he joined us?"
