The Second Love
Feeling uneasy, I urged Dominic Hartnell to make the call. However, even after the second attempt, there was no answer. I held my cheek in my hand and muttered worriedly to myself, "Why isn't anyone answering? I hope nothing happened to my mom." Dominic Hartnell remained silent and made a third call. But once again, there was no answer. "Husband..." I unconsciously called out to Dominic Hartnell. Three consecutive calls without an answer, this had never happened before. Dominic Hartnell frowned and stared at his phone, a hint of worry in his expression. But perhaps he didn't want me to worry too much, after a few seconds of silence, he turned to comfort me, "Don't worry, maybe my mom forgot to bring her phone when she went out." "With Chen Ma and Calvin Merchant accompanying her, nothing should happen." Upon hearing this, I nodded involuntarily. As Dominic Hartnell said, with Chen Ma and Calvin Merchant by his mom's side, there shouldn't be any danger. Actually, I wasn't worried about anything else, I was only concerned about her health. After thinking for a moment, I said, "Then call Calvin Merchant and check." I still felt a bit uneasy, and if we could confirm it, it would be the best. Dominic Hartnell nodded and agreed, "Okay, I..." "Sis, brother-in-law, are you guys ready? Hurry up and come out, we're one player short!" Lou's loud voice suddenly sounded outside the door, startling me and interrupting Dominic Hartnell's words. I was speechless, what did he mean by one player short? Did he think we were playing mahjong? Naturally, Dominic Hartnell also heard what Lou said, and he smiled, saying, "Go out and play with them for a while, I'll come over after making the call." I hesitated for a few seconds before agreeing. Anyway, as long as Dominic Hartnell could contact his mom through Calvin Merchant and confirm that she was fine, there was no point in me staying here. So, I quickly changed my clothes and opened the door to leave the bedroom. Just as I entered the living room, Lou spotted me. He waved his arms and called out to me, "Sis, come on, we're waiting for you!" "What about brother-in-law? Isn't he coming? Your skills are a bit weak."I glared at him and scolded him impatiently, "If you think I'm weak, then don't call me. Go play by yourself, I'll watch you two against one!" "Afterwards, don't expect your brother-in-law to help you seek revenge," I snapped at Lou, causing him to instantly back down and try to please me with a fawning smile. "No, no, no, I was wrong," he said. He quickly got up from the ground and ran over to me, supporting my arm and saying, "Sis, take it easy, I'll help you." I rolled my eyes at him, feeling both annoyed and amused. Speaking of which, it was Lou and his friends who introduced this game to us. It was quite fun and had various game modes, which I really enjoyed. However, my skills were really lacking, and I belonged to the group of clumsy players. I found a comfortable position on the couch and waited for Lou to set up the game mode. Once everything was ready, we started playing.Just as we were getting into the game, Dominic Hartnell showed up. I continued to operate the controller while turning my head to take a look at him. Why did he seem so serious? Could it be that he couldn't contact Calvin Merchant? Or did he manage to contact him, but received bad news? I anxiously speculated, but in a moment of distraction, I made a mistake and my game character was GAME OVER. Lou sighed and shouted, "Sis, you ruined it for me!" I didn't have time to comfort his wounded soul. I threw the controller aside and asked Dominic Hartnell, "What's the situation? Did you manage to contact them?" "Are they okay?" Dominic Hartnell sat down next to me, holding my hand and replied, "They're fine. Calvin Merchant is with them." "He just forgot to bring his phone when they went out." Upon hearing this, I breathed a sigh of relief, but still had some lingering worries. I asked again, "Really? You managed to contact Calvin Merchant, right?" Dominic Hartnell nodded and a faint smile appeared on his lips. "Of course, I have no reason to deceive you." I was taken aback for a moment, then laughed along with him. Yes, I had asked a rather silly question. Why would he lie to me about something like this? Knowing that everything was fine, I relaxed and shifted my attention back to the game. Since I had already finished my turn, it was a bit difficult for Lou, who was playing after me. When I looked over, I saw that he had just been eliminated. Before I could call out to him, Lou immediately turned to Dominic Hartnell and said, "Brother-in-law, you play, sis's skills are not good. It's bad enough that she killed herself, but she also ruined me. She's truly the legendary bad teammate!" "Sis, you and cousin are both women, so how come she can play so well?" he added. I instantly felt displeased. This guy's words were too harsh. Did he not consider me his real sister? "Honey, let's not play with him. Stay with me and watch a movie," I said, intentionally tilting my chin and giving Lou a disdainful look. Then, I prepared to take Dominic Hartnell back to our room. Mohan and Yurou, who were standing nearby, shamelessly enjoyed the spectacle, laughing uncontrollably. Lou, observing my actions, immediately gave in and handed me a piece of apple from the fruit platter on the coffee table, saying, "Sis, have an apple. It's so sweet." I snorted and took it from him. After I took a bite, Lou asked, "Is it sweet?" "Sis, there's plenty more here. Take your time and let your brother-in-law have some fun," he suggested."You watch the show and see how your sister and brother-in-law team up to conquer all," I replied. As I said that, I saw him turn his head and wink at Dominic Hartnell. Then, I heard Dominic Hartnell ask me, "My dear wife, are the above requests approved?" I couldn't help but burst into laughter, waving my hand and pretending to be haughty as I answered, "Approved." In that instant, I couldn't contain my laughter and burst into uncontrollable giggles. Dominic Hartnell patted my back, going along with the joke. I laughed so hard that tears streamed down my face. I pushed away his hand and stuttered, "Alright... don't, don't mind me. You guys go ahead and play." Dominic Hartnell took hold of my hand and tenderly kissed it.My cheeks flushed, and the three mischievous kids observed the scene. Lou grumbled discontentedly, "We won't need to make risotto anymore. We'll be content with dog food." "Go on, go on, play your game," I dismissed them. I sent them off to play while I sat there, enjoying some fruit and watching the game. Although I was merely an outsider relishing the spectacle, my husband looked incredibly handsome. Even while playing a game, he appeared effortlessly cool. After a few rounds, we all returned to our respective rooms. The following morning, Dominic Hartnell left early, and Lou and the others also departed from the house. Around ten o'clock, someone unexpected came to find me.
