The Second Love

Chapter 355 Seeing You Smile Is Enough

As I looked at Nicholas Scott's lifeless and pale face, I couldn't help but purse my lips, feeling a lump in my throat. My heart, too, throbbed with a dull pain, as if being pricked by needles. Nicholas Scott, I'm sorry. I repeated this sentence over and over again in my mind. "Sorry" is actually quite insignificant; it is not enough to soothe the pain on Nicholas Scott's body and heart. I felt too embarrassed to say it out loud, so I could only silently repeat it. People are good at owing everything, but they can't owe emotional debts. Once owed, without enough determination or thick-skinnedness, it is too difficult to repay, hurting both others and oneself. I only hope that Nicholas Scott can hate me from now on, just like how he refused to speak to me before. Even if we meet again in the future, I would rather he treat me as a complete stranger, like air. Only in this way, after the passage of time, perhaps he can completely let go and start a new life of his own. Nicholas Scott, you deserve better... With these thoughts in mind, I deliberately put on a cold expression again and said lightly, "Mr. Chu, I've said everything I needed to say. If there's anything offensive, I apologize. If you have nothing else, please leave. Our family still needs to eat risotto." Nicholas Scott stood there like a wooden statue, motionless and silent. After a moment, just as Dominic Hartnell frowned and was about to go and pull him, Nicholas Scott finally moved. He took a step back slowly, with a self-deprecating smile, and said, "I understand, um... I'll leave now. I'm sorry for causing you trouble. It won't happen again." As he spoke, he paused and lowered his head. After a few seconds, he raised his head again, waved his hand at me, and said, "Liliana Zanetti, goodbye." After saying these words, Nicholas Scott turned and left. I was in a bad mood, but there were still so many people in the room, and I didn't want to show it too obviously. After adjusting myself, I forced a smile and turned to greet everyone, "Alright, let's continue eating, everything's fine." My mom looked at me, her expression hesitant and wanting to say something. Vivienne Zanetti and her father exchanged a quick glance, then nodded and smiled, "Yes, there are still so many dishes left. We should eat them before they get cold. Even though Han is paying, we shouldn't waste it." Gianna Zanetti and her father, who were both smooth and well-versed in social etiquette, immediately joined in the laughter and conversation. Suddenly, the atmosphere in the room became lively. I took a deep breath and tried to maintain a smile. Then, I turned to Dominic Hartnell and pulled him aside, saying, "Honey, you haven't eaten much yet. Go back and sit down to have something. I'm not full yet, and I still want to eat shrimp. Can you peel them for me?" Dominic Hartnell looked at me with a deep gaze for a moment, then smiled and replied, "Sure." Although the sudden arrival of Nicholas Scott had made the atmosphere a bit awkward, everyone quickly covered it up with their unanimous cooperation. Everything seemed to be as harmonious as it was at the beginning. We continued eating the risotto until it was finished, and it seemed that everyone was satisfied and happy. After the risotto and wine, it was almost nine o'clock. Since Vivienne Zanetti and Gianna Zanetti were both here, my mom decided to stay at the hotel tonight. She told me that she wanted to have a good chat with the two sisters. But I felt that she intentionally left some space for me and Dominic Hartnell. After all, even if we don't meet often, we talk on the phone quite frequently. How much more can we talk about? I saw through her intentions but didn't say anything. After escorting them back to their rooms, Dominic Hartnell and I left the hotel. Knowing that we would be drinking tonight and considering that the block wasn't far away, Dominic Hartnell didn't drive. It happened to be what I wanted, as I also wanted to take a walk. Hand in hand, Dominic Hartnell and I strolled through the still bustling streets, heading towards home. "Wife," Dominic Hartnell held my hand and stopped, calling me. I looked up at him and responded, "Yes?" Dominic Hartnell pointed behind me and asked, "Do you want to have some strawberry cake? Let's go in and buy two slices." I turned around to take a look but wasn't interested, so I shook my head and said, "I just ate, so I don't really feel like having any." Dominic Hartnell squeezed my hand and said, "Then let's take it home. You can have it when you feel like it." I looked at his gentle smile and felt warmth in my heart. Without thinking, I nodded. After buying the cake, we continued walking home. We arrived at a traffic light intersection just as the green light turned on, so we stopped. At that moment, a group of young men and women in their twenties rushed up behind us. Dominic Hartnell carefully shielded me with his chest and took two steps back. Resting against his chest, I listened to the steady beating of his heart, and my restless heart, which had been troubled by Nicholas Scott, gradually calmed down."Honey, are you angry?" I asked. Dominic Hartnell's voice rang out above my head, "You helped me vent, so why would I be angry?" I gently pushed his hands away, looked up, and our eyes met. With a hint of confusion, he asked me, "What? Do you want me to be angry?" I quickly shook my head and replied, "No, no, I'm glad you're not angry. Please don't go looking for trouble with him again." Dominic Hartnell's hand on my waist lightly pinched me and said, "Then be happy. If you keep acting like this, I'm afraid I won't be able to control myself from hitting someone." I pouted and denied in a low voice, "I'm not unhappy." Dominic Hartnell raised his right hand and lifted my chin, "Your husband's not blind." We were still waiting for the traffic light, surrounded by people. Dominic Hartnell's action successfully attracted the attention of others. A young girl exclaimed repeatedly, saying how handsome, manly, and cool he was. "Don't make a scene, we're in public." Feeling a bit embarrassed, I pushed his hand away. Dominic Hartnell raised an eyebrow and looked around, then confidently pulled me into his arms. "What? Can't I flirt with my own wife?" There were more excited whispers and cheers. I had three black lines on my forehead. Why did this person act like a little hooligan? "Mr. Han, could you please be mindful of your appearance?" Dominic Hartnell adjusted his tie with confidence and turned to me, asking, "Is there something wrong with my appearance?" "Have you ever seen a more handsome husband than me?" Seeing his shamelessly mischievous look, I couldn't help but burst into laughter, tears almost streaming down my face. Dominic Hartnell wrapped his arms around my shoulders and pulled me into an embrace. I heard him say, "My dear wife, as long as I see you smile, that's all that matters."
