The Second Love

Chapter 347 The Impressive Threat

As I observed Dominic Hartnell's intimidating posture, I couldn't help but silently sympathize with Benjamin Chance. However, upon further reflection, I realized that Benjamin Chance truly deserved to be scolded. Never before had I encountered someone who would flee from the hospital before fully recovering from their injuries. While I could understand Benjamin Chance's emotions, I couldn't condone his irrational actions. His behavior was a clear demonstration of self-neglect and irresponsibility. Given Benjamin Chance's current condition, I believed that Dominic Hartnell would do nothing more than reprimand him. My hope was that this scolding would serve as a wake-up call for Benjamin Chance. Regardless of his intentions, he needed to prioritize healing his injuries. Lost in my thoughts, I unintentionally let my mind wander. When I snapped back to reality, Dominic Hartnell was already holding my hand. "Let's go, leave him here. I'll take you back first." I hesitated, not wanting to leave Benjamin Chance alone. What if he took advantage of Dominic Hartnell's absence and ran away again? Dominic Hartnell sensed my concerns and smiled reassuringly. "Don't worry, he won't escape again." Rolling my eyes, I sarcastically replied, "That's not guaranteed. Given his current state, who knows what he might do." "You don't have to accompany me. I can walk home by myself. You keep an eye on him." Dominic Hartnell turned his head and glanced at Benjamin Chance, snorting coldly. "If he wants to meet Shannon Harper in the future with a limp leg and a broken arm, then he can go ahead and do whatever he wants. No one will stop him." I was momentarily stunned, but soon burst into laughter. Benjamin Chance certainly wouldn't want to face Shannon with a disabled body. The threat of this situation was quite impressive. Nevertheless, I insisted that Dominic Hartnell go find Benjamin Chance and take him back to the hospital. Having just recovered from a serious injury, I feared that this incident would prolong his recovery time. Upon entering the house, I noticed the living room was unusually quiet. My mother was likely still asleep. Carefully tiptoeing into her room, I saw her fast asleep. I quietly closed the door and returned to the living room. Settling on the couch, I took out my phone and dialed Shannon's number. Despite Benjamin Chance's claim that her phone was turned off, I couldn't help but wonder if she had simply blocked me. After all, she only had one person to be cautious of. However, after hearing the voicemail, I realized I was overthinking. She had indeed turned off her phone. Hmph, that girl. She promised to contact me whenever she had time, yet days had passed without a single message, and her phone remained off.Not only was Benjamin Chance anxious and worried, but I couldn't help but feel concerned as well. Since I couldn't reach her by phone, I decided to leave a message for Shannon on WeChat. I asked her to contact me once she saw the message, just to let me know she was safe. I wondered when Shannon would remember to turn on her phone and check her WeChat. I felt quite helpless. Little did I know that before I could ponder for a few more seconds, my phone on the coffee table started buzzing, and a video invitation popped up. I was momentarily stunned, but as I leaned closer to take a look, a smile formed on my face. It was a testament to our unwavering friendship. Shannon and I were like pure gold, with a deep connection. Even across distances, she could sense when I needed her. With a joyful expression, I answered the video call. Shannon's face appeared on the screen, and I immediately began scolding her."You little brat, having so much fun that you forgot about everything else?" "You promised to contact me, didn't you?" Shannon laughed carelessly, revealing her bright white teeth. "Missed me, huh?" "Look at how considerate I am. As soon as I saw your message, I immediately showed up. Are you touched? Happy? Proud?" I couldn't help but burst into laughter. "Cut it out. Can't you be a little less shameless?" In the video, Shannon laughed heartily, clearly in a good mood. I breathed a sigh of relief, knowing she was enjoying herself wherever she was. "Shannon, are you still in the country or abroad? You look so tanned." Shannon touched her face in the video and waved her hand nonchalantly. "No worries, I'll be back to being fair-skinned soon." "I'm telling you, going on a trip is truly amazing. Once you have your own nieces and nephews, I'll take you on one. You won't want to leave!"I readily agreed, "Sure, let's go together in the future. But at least tell me where it is first, so I can familiarize myself with the place." Shannon playfully blinked at me and said, "It's just a fantastic place." Then she suddenly turned her head and said, "Okay," before returning her attention to me. "Hey, I won't tell you anymore. I have to go now, but I'll message you when I have time." "Take care of yourself. Bye, sending you a kiss." Before I could react, the video call ended abruptly. Me: ... How could she just leave like that? I didn't even finish my sentence. Well, I'll have to wait for her to contact me again. But knowing that she's having a good time and is safe, I feel relieved. Hmm, I should inform Dominic Hartnell and Benjamin Chance about Shannon's well-being. They can take care of her and ensure she heals peacefully. After contemplating for a while, I picked up an apple with a contented mood. Eating more fruits is beneficial for the baby's skin. After consuming more than half of the apple, my mom woke up. "Mom, you didn't sleep well last night. Go back to sleep for a while. It's still early." My mom sat down on the sofa, rubbed her forehead, and shook her head. "I can't fall asleep. I'm not at ease." "Han went to the company?" I nodded and then grabbed my mom's arm, saying, "Mom, turn around. I'll give you a 360-degree super refreshing head massage, ensuring no spot is missed." My mom laughed at my words and pushed my hand away, teasing, "I won't be your guinea pig." I pouted and replied, "I'm not referring to a guinea pig; I genuinely know how to give a massage. Come on, give it a try; it's incredibly relaxing." After persuading my mom for a while, she finally agreed and turned around. Little did I know, just as I was about to begin, the phone on the coffee table disrupted the atmosphere with its ringing.
