The Second Love
In theory, no one should come to my house looking for Dominic Hartnell, unless it's Calvin Merchant. But this voice clearly isn't his. I looked at Dominic Hartnell in confusion and asked, "Did you call them?" Dominic Hartnell took my hand and walked towards the door, replying, "No." Upon hearing this, I was momentarily stunned, but then nodded and muttered, "Then they must have made a mistake... How did they find their way here, and what do they want?" Before I could finish my sentence, my voice suddenly stopped, and after a few seconds of silence, my face turned dark. I saw the door open, revealing a man and a woman with smiles on their faces, holding bags full of things, standing at the doorway. I didn't recognize the man, but the woman was familiar. I had just seen her a few hours ago, the foul-mouthed woman who tried to deceive my mother. I never expected to see her at my doorstep. Why won't this woman leave us alone? What does she want by coming here? After all the trouble she caused my mother, just when her mood had finally improved, if she saw her at our doorstep, my mother would definitely be furious. I glared at the woman fiercely, then quickly turned my head to look towards my parents' bedroom. Fortunately, the door was still closed. They probably weren't disturbed. I took a deep breath, grabbed Dominic Hartnell's arm, and walked outside, making sure to close the door behind me. With the separation between inside and outside, I looked at the two people in front of me with an annoyed tone and asked again, "How did you find my house? I'm warning you, don't even think about hurting my mother." Dominic Hartnell, who was standing beside me, put his hand on my shoulder and patted it gently, trying to calm me down. "Darling, don't get agitated. It's not good for a pregnant woman to be overly emotional." Of course, I knew it wasn't good for me or the baby, but they had blocked the door. Who could stay calm in this situation? This woman simply doesn't reason with others. Who knows what she came here for, and she's not alone. I'm worried about my mother. The only reassurance I have is that Dominic Hartnell is with me. Otherwise, if I were alone, I wouldn't dare to be so close to them. At that moment, Dominic Hartnell placed his hand on my lower back and smiled at me. "Don't worry, darling. I'm here." I wasn't really worried, I was just in a bad mood. After listening to his words, I calmed down my emotions and nodded. Dominic Hartnell then shifted his gaze to the man and woman. His eyes swept past the woman without any pause and turned to the man. "Are you her husband?" The man being asked nodded hurriedly, "Yes, yes, Mr. Hartnell." I couldn't help but feel annoyed and pursed my lips. This man is her husband, he really has no taste. Why did he choose such a shrew as his wife? Dominic Hartnell didn't show any particular reaction on his face, he just said calmly, "Let's go, find a place outside, I'll give you time to speak slowly." Upon hearing this, a flash of surprise quickly crossed the man's face. It seemed as if he was afraid that Dominic Hartnell would regret it, so he quickly stepped aside and repeatedly said, "Thank you, Mr. Hartnell, thank you, Mr. Hartnell." Then, the man paused for a moment and with a flattering smile, he said, "Mr. Hartnell, these things are just a small token of appreciation. Would you like me to bring them inside for you?"Dominic Hartnell raised an eyebrow, smiled ambiguously, and asked, "Do I need these things from you?" The man's face suddenly changed, and he immediately replied, "No, no, Mr. Hartnell, why would you need these trinkets? This is just..." Before he could finish, Dominic Hartnell interrupted in a cold voice, "Take them away, don't dirty my in-laws' house." The man's smile on his face became stiff, but he still desperately maintained it and promised, "Yes, yes, I'll take them away. I absolutely won't dirty Aunt and Uncle's house." As I watched the scene unfold like a bystander, I finally realized what was going on. It seemed that they weren't here to cause trouble, but to apologize. I knew my husband had the ability. Look at how efficient he is, retaliating so quickly. No wonder this woman has been silent from the beginning. She must have been taught a lesson by her husband.I couldn't help but curl my lips, feeling extremely pleased. After leaving my house, we didn't go far and found a nearby tea house. We reserved a private room and the four of us entered one after another. Dominic Hartnell enthusiastically ordered a pot of Biluochun tea and generously handed a red bill to the tea house waiter to buy me a box of yogurt. By the time the tea arrived and the yogurt was bought, about ten minutes had passed. During this period, the two members of the Madison family stood by, constantly trying to please and smile. Dominic Hartnell sat leisurely, sipping his tea without saying a word or showing any expression, as if deliberately testing their patience. Inside the private room, apart from the occasional gurgling sound I made while drinking yogurt, there was complete silence, eerily quiet. After a couple of irritating minutes, the man finally made a move. He forcefully grabbed the woman's arm and pulled her towards him, spewing vile words, "You stupid woman, what are you standing there for? Apologize to Mr. Hartnell and Mrs. Han immediately!" "If your attitude is bad, I'll make you regret it!" Then, he immediately turned to me and Dominic Hartnell, his face breaking into a smile, "Mr. Hartnell, Mrs. Han, I sincerely apologize for today. It's all her fault for being ignorant. I have already reprimanded her, and I will make sure she apologizes to both of you." Seeing such a stark contrast in their attitudes, I couldn't find it in me to smile. If this woman had insulted my mother and falsely accused her of a crime, it would have angered me. But now, this man's reaction made me feel even more disgusted. His wife wasn't a good person, and he wasn't either. What kind of man pushes his wife forward to take the blame?Even if it was her fault, he lacked responsibility. Looking at the woman, she had lost her arrogance and arrogance from earlier, replaced by caution and panic. Trembling, she picked up the teapot and poured a cup of tea, wearing a smile that was more pitiful than crying, and bowed apologetically, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, Mr. Hartnell. It was my mistake, and I promise I won't do it again." Observing her actions, I furrowed my brows, maintaining silence, and Dominic Hartnell refrained from speaking as well. During that moment of silence, the man positioned behind the woman unexpectedly kicked her. Losing her balance, she was unable to grasp onto the cup and descended to the ground with a resounding thud. A wave of anger coursed through me, prompting me to rise with a stoic expression.
