The Second Love

Chapter 284 Waiting To Go To Jail!

I glanced to the side and noticed that the person standing behind me was one of the two police officers. He took hold of my arm and asked with concern, "Take it easy. You have such a large belly, are you alright?" I steadied myself and quickly shook my head, replying, "I'm fine, thank you." The police officer supporting me didn't respond to my words. Instead, he shouted at the woman, "What are you doing? Speak politely. Can't you see she's pregnant?" Meanwhile, the other police officer had already reached the woman and held her back, probably afraid that she would do something extreme. I didn't know if this woman was fearless or had someone backing her up. She completely disregarded the police officer's words. I watched as she waved her hands and forcefully pushed away the police officer, then pushed aside the doctor. She walked towards me with an arrogant attitude. Witnessing her actions, one police officer stood in front of me, while the other followed closely behind, attempting to stop her. The woman displayed great arrogance. She pushed another person away with her hand and threatened, "What are you doing? The police want to assault people?" Hearing her words, the police officer trying to stop her looked displeased and furrowed his brows, saying, "Assault people? Do you realize that you're responsible for what you say?" The police officer protecting me also spoke up, "Don't go too far. If you have something to say, just say it. What are you trying to accomplish? Don't lose control of yourself." The woman sneered indifferently, "If you two little police officers still want to keep your skin intact, you better be sensible!" Hearing this, I couldn't help but mutter to myself. So, she really has someone backing her up? Otherwise, how could she be so arrogant, daring to throw things at me in front of two police officers, and speaking so impolitely? I couldn't help but think of Dominic Hartnell. He was my supporter, but I didn't know where he was. He said he would come right away, but I had no idea where he went. If I had known, I should have waited for him before confronting this woman. Seeing her arrogant attitude, completely disregarding the two police officers, I felt a bit uneasy. I was afraid she would be ruthless and not hesitate to attack me. While I was worried, the police officers' faces turned black with anger. However, I don't know if I was influenced by the woman's words just now, but for a while, no one responded. The woman looked smugly at the two policemen, and her attitude became even more arrogant. I saw a cold smile on her lips as she ignored the two policemen and sneered at me in a sarcastic tone, "You're that old man's daughter, right? It seems like you're really a family, with the same despicable face." "So what if I hit you? Don't even mention that you're pregnant, even if you're about to give birth, I'm not afraid. Do you think those two would dare to help you?" "Look at my head, it's all because of your mother. I know why you're here, and I'm telling you clearly, it's not happening! Your mother can wait to go to jail!" As I listened to her repeatedly calling me a despicable person, my anger surged uncontrollably. How dare she make my mother wait for jail, for what reason! Even if she injured her head and bled, it wasn't my mother who hurt her. How could she falsely accuse someone and send them to prison for no reason? Can someone be so arrogant behind someone's back? Can fairness and justice be ignored? This is a society governed by the rule of law, and I refuse to believe she has such power! The woman's final words really angered me. I disregarded everything and swiftly moved away from behind the police officers. With a cold expression, I sternly replied, "Watch your mouth and refrain from saying anything good or bad." "If you bumped your head, it's your own carelessness. What does it have to do with my mother? Why would you accuse her?" "I don't want to waste my breath with you, nor do I want to argue with you. That shop must have surveillance cameras, so let's leave it to the police to handle. They can review the footage, and the truth will be revealed!" "If you want to frame my mother, don't even think about it, not even a chance!" The woman was momentarily stunned by my words, but then she smirked sinisterly. "Oh, you're quite sharp with your words! You want to review the surveillance footage? Fine, go ahead and review it. Come on, both of you, go and try." "I said it was your mother who caused the injury, so it's your mother. Even if there's surveillance, it won't matter." "I just want to see who has the guts to go against the Madison family." I looked at the woman's arrogant and triumphant expression, and furrowed my brow. Madison family? They're powerful? I really didn't know about this Madison family or the Li family, mainly because our family doesn't have any connections with them. But even if they have power, they shouldn't be able to distort right and wrong. I suppressed my impatience and said coldly, "In today's society, we follow the law. Do you think you or your Madison family can surpass the law?" Even in ancient times, there was the concept that even princes would be punished for their crimes, just like commoners. How can that so-called Madison family compare to a prince? If they're so amazing, why don't they fly to the sky? After a long silence, one of the police officers finally spoke up, perhaps awakened by my earlier words. I heard one of the police officers sternly reprimand the woman, saying, "She's right. Everything requires evidence. It's not just about what you say." I felt much more at ease hearing this. This is how the police should be. Wearing uniforms that represent justice and righteousness, they should always do what is right. The other police officer also took action. He stepped forward and grabbed the woman's arm, saying, "The wound has been treated. Let's go back to the police station to clarify things. It doesn't matter who is right or wrong, but we won't falsely accuse anyone." I almost couldn't resist applauding. If it weren't for the inappropriate timing, I would have said, "Well done!" The woman seemed surprised by the actions and words of the two police officers. Her face was filled with astonishment. I coldly stared at her, wanting to retort, "Justice will always prevail over evil!" Just then, my husband finally appeared. I heard him call out, "Darling," and before I knew it, I was in his embrace. "I told you to wait for me at the door. How did you end up coming in by yourself? Are you okay?" I embraced Dominic Hartnell, my arms encircling his waist, and shook my head, feeling an inexplicable soreness in my nose. "I'm alright, but she threatened to sue my mom and even suggested that she should wait for imprisonment," I lamented, repeating the woman's words. Unconsciously, I tightened my hold on Dominic Hartnell's garments. With a voice filled with tears, I inquired, "I visited the police station earlier, but they refused to let me bring my mom along." "Did you go to the police station? How is my mom? Can we at least secure her release on bail and bring her back home while we sort things out?"
