The Second Love

Chapter 250 The Silent Treatment

Dominic and I locked eyes with each other silently. Other than the noise of boiling water on the stove, the kitchen was eerily silent. Only the sound of our breathing reverberated inside the quiet room. Although Dominic's gaze seemed tranquil, I felt that a storm was brewing within those dark orbs. I knew he was seething with rage. However, I refused to take back what I said. Milena was being way more vicious than before, so I could no longer stand being tortured over and over again. However, I felt a chill going down my spine as he stared straight at me without a word. The vibe he gave off was way terrifying than him getting angry. “How about if we both calm down and give it some thought? You—”Before I could finish my sentence, Dominic let go of my hand and walked to the door without looking back. I froze for a while before getting up to my feet, following after him. He had already worn his coat in such a short while and was preparing to leave. “Are you heading out?” “Get some rest. You don't need to bother about me.” Then, he slammed the door with a bang and was soon out of sight. What is he doing? Is he running away from home in a fit of anger? However, I quickly dismissed that thought. Angry, yes. But is he running away because of it? I doubt so. I let out a sigh as I stood by the door. It's good if he wants to take a walk and clear his head. Otherwise, we might get into another fight. About ten minutes later, I felt worried and decided to give Calvin a call. That way, if Dominic ever looked for him, he would be able to provide the former with some advice. When night fell, I watched television in the living room while waiting for Dominic to return. However, I dozed off while doing so. The next day, I woke up when the sun was already high in the sky. Blinking my eyes, I realized that I was in my bed instead of the couch. Although I was unsure when Dominic returned, I was sure he did. Otherwise, I would not have been in bed. After I got up, I bumped into Chloe, who came out of the kitchen with a glass of milk. “Mrs. Hartnell, you're awake. I was just going to bring some milk over to you.” I was actually not a big fan of drinking fresh milk. However, Dominic insisted on having me drink a glass every morning to increase my calcium level. “Chloe, did you see Mr. Hartnell in the morning? What time did he leave?” After handing me the glass of milk, she replied, “Around eight o'clock. When I came over, he was just getting prepared to leave.” “Oh, okay. Thanks, Chloe. You can get back to work.” It looks like Dominic is still angry. Well, whatever. We both need some time to reconsider our relationship, anyway. “Mrs. Hartnell, please sit down and rest for a moment. I'll go and prepare lunch.” “Okay. Thanks.” After lunch, I did not return to the bedroom. Instead, I took a small blanket and laid down on the chaise longue on the balcony. It was currently the best climate out of the four seasons, for the sun was warm and not too blinding, perfect for sunbathing. Squinting my eyes, I soon fell asleep. When I woke up, it was already afternoon. Usually, Dominic would have returned by this time. However, he was nowhere to be seen, and Chloe was surprisingly still around. While I was hesitating to call him, Chloe walked up to me with a plate of fruits. “Mrs. Hartnell, Mr. Hartnell just called and said he'd be late tonight. I'm in charge of dinner.” My hands, which were reaching for the fruits, froze in mid-air. Instantly, anger stirred within me. He's doing it on purpose! Is he even refusing to talk to me now? How old is he? Five? It's okay if he can't make it home on time, but why can't he tell me that personally? All right, then! We're going to break up soon, anyway. Suit yourself! I'd feel more at peace without him bothering me! “I understand, Chloe. I'll have to trouble you tonight, then.” As Chloe was a great cook and a nice person, I felt happy she would make dinner tonight. From that day onward, Dominic and I completely stopped interacting, giving each other the silent treatment. Ever since I got pregnant, I had been sleeping more and earlier than usual. Still angry at him, I gave up on staying up for him. Since Dominic wants to avoid me, then fine, I'll let him be.On a side note, Dominic did, in fact, come home every day. However, we never bumped into each other because we avoided each other tacitly. We continued giving each other the cold shoulder, and even Chloe noticed it. She tried to hint for me to give in first, as one party would always have to make concessions in a relationship for it to last. Although I knew she was looking out for us and that I was the one who started the entire issue, I was doing it all because of Milena. It's all her fault! Since Dominic decided to blame me for it, I was determined not to back down. After all, I was not a pushover. Time passed quickly despite our fight, and it was soon time for me to go for a follow-up in the hospital. If I did not fight with Dominic, he would have accompanied me there. However, it seemed that he had forgotten all about it due to our fight. Deciding not to remind him or trouble Chloe, I gave Shannon a call, and the latter agreed to accompany me immediately. The next day, Shannon showed up at the agreed time to pick me up. At the hospital, I went to Yvonne's office immediately. She was the one who was in charge of my checkups ever since I came back from Yaleview, which was also why Dominic invited her to our house back then. Even though some terrible incidents had happened, the two babies were strong enough to endure it, so the entire appointment went by smoothly. To my surprise, my entire pregnancy journey had not been troublesome. Besides the rough start in the first trimester, everything went smoothly. I did not vomit and even had a great appetite for food. Therefore, I felt relieved and started anticipating my due date. Except for my daily walks, I rarely went out. Thus, I decided to take this rare opportunity to relax. I was not in a rush to head home, and nobody was keeping a close eye on me, anyway. However, I soon realized that I was not in good shape than I was before. I felt sore all over after walking for a brief moment, so I quickly dragged Shannon to a nearby Starbucks. As I was forbidden to drink anything with caffeine, Shannon bought a yogurt drink for me. “Why didn't Dominic accompany you for the appointment today? Is he that busy?” I knew from the start that Shannon would be curious, but I did not want to say we were giving each other the cold shoulder to avoid bringing up Milena. Thus, I went along with her. “He is quite busy.” However, Shannon did not seem to believe me and scanned me with a questioning gaze.
