The Second Love

Chapter 219 Only I Can Open It

Dominic pulled up his sleeves, and I saw that he was also wearing a bracelet exactly like mine. The difference was that there was no pendant on it, but there was a small hole like a keyhole. Shaking his wrist, he explained, “The key on your bracelet is for this lock. The only thing that can open this lock of mine is your key. It's the one and only key in this world.” His play on words took me by surprise. When we were at the sweetest times of our relationship, he had never done such a romantic thing nor said such honeyed words. More often, he was a practical pragmatist who pampered and cherished me. However, I was really shocked at that moment. Not only did he say those sweet words, but he had also prepared those purple roses and the bracelet. I especially liked the bracelet's name—Cherished Love.Little did I know that he would remember and even try his best to make it happen. Everything originated from a love comic I read when I was in my sophomore year. I remembered there was a part where the male protagonist tried to salvage his relationship with the female protagonist by preparing a greenhouse full of purple roses for her. After bringing her to the greenhouse, he confessed to her affectionately in the sea of purple roses, saying that she was the person he wanted to cherish the most. Purple roses symbolized cherished love. After I finished reading the comic, I swooned at the romantic scenario. I told Dominic that if we had a fight, and I wanted a break-up, I would forgive him provided that he prepared purple roses like the male protagonist in the comic, together with another surprise. At that time, he did not promise me anything and even asked me to read fewer comics, so as not to confuse reality with fantasy. I did not expect him to actually surprise me with the scene in the comic. In addition to the purple roses, he even gave me a bracelet with the same name. His lock could only be opened by my key. Those words of his were like a catalyst that softened my heart. Looking at his handsome face, I felt my head spin and overwhelmed. The next moment, he embraced me in his arms, lowered his head, and kissed me on the lips. “I love you.” I was at a loss for words. Besides staring at him in bewilderment, I was bereft of speech. “Silly girl.” Seeing my reaction, Dominic chuckled and pulled me into his arms once again. I buried my head in his chest and felt a sense of satisfaction as I smelled the faint fragrance of flowers on his body.At that moment, snowflakes began to fall from the sky, and I heard the children cheering. Even the weather favored us. Gorgeous fireworks were lighting up the night sky, and it was already very beautiful. Coupled with the snow that embellished the scenery, our New Year's Eve became all the more enchanting. Dominic cupped my face and gave me a passionate kiss. “Okay, it's getting late. I've done and said everything I have to. You should go back and accompany your parents. I have to go back too.” Surprised, I asked, “Go back? Where are you going back to?” “Back to the airport. I'm taking the flight at seven-thirty to return to Anglandur. I came back on purpose.” My heart ached for him, yet there was a hint of sweet warmth as well.“Dominic, are you looking for trouble? Don't you feel tired from all the traveling?” He glared at me with dissatisfaction. “I spent so much time and energy to come back and please you. Is that how you're going to talk to me? I'm going to leave soon. Shouldn't you do something? I've been the only one to express my love tonight.” Pushing him away, I took a step back. “What should I do? You've hugged and kissed me. Doesn't sound like you've suffered a loss.” Dominic's expression darkened again, and he quickly pulled me over. I thought he wanted to mess around again, but unexpectedly, he took off his coat and draped it over my body. “Forget it. Time is what we have in the future. Hurry up and go back before the snow gets heavy. I really have to leave now. Otherwise, it'll be difficult to drive in a while.” I wanted to return the coat to him. After all, I would reach home soon, but he would have to drive a long way to get to the airport. However, he rejected me, saying that there was a heater in the car, and it would not be cold. I did not dare to argue with him further, fearing that it would waste too much of his time. Noticing that he was really going to leave, I suddenly felt reluctant and worried. “Drive slowly. The road is slippery. If you can't make it in time, it should be fine if you return to Anglandur one day later. Just be careful, okay?” Smiling, he replied, “No worries. Calvin's here, and he's a good driver. Okay, I won't see you off today. You should go back now. By the way, I won't give these flowers to you. You won't be able to bring them back anyway. I'll buy you new ones in the future.” Hearing that he said Calvin was there, I felt relieved. Sure enough, after a few minutes, I saw Calvin coming over from a secluded place. It seemed that he was the one who set off the fireworks earlier.Calvin was a dedicated assistant. He had been staying by Dominic's side for the whole time. It was a holiday, and he was still following Dominic. “Calvin, I see you have quite a tough job. Don't you even take a break during the holidays? Anyway, Happy New Year to you! Remember to ask your unscrupulous boss to give you a monetary gift as compensation later on.” Maybe because of the holiday, Calvin seemed to be in a good mood. “Ms. Zanetti, Happy New Year to you too. Mr. Hartnell has already given me a monetary gift.” I laughed as I listened to him. Calvin really could not stand anyone bad-mouthing Dominic. Since it was getting late, I did not say anything else. After saying goodbye to Dominic and Calvin, I went home. Of course, before leaving, I told Calvin several times to be careful on the road, even though I knew he was always cautious. Just as I walked back to my house, Mom called me and asked where did I go. She told me to go home quickly since it was snowing. “I'm coming,” I said before hanging up. Before entering the house, I took off Dominic's coat and hung them on my arm, pretending it was mine lest they bombard me with questions when they noticed it. Standing at the door, I was about to lift my hand to knock on the door when the phone in my pocket vibrated. I fished out my phone, and there were two messages from Calvin.
