The Second Love

Chapter 161 The Comic Was All About Them

Dominic shot me a sideways glance and mumbled gloomily, “I don't have a problem with that. It's just that I find it unbelievable that you would dump me because of a comic. Liliana, you really had the heart to do so, huh?” In a split second, I was irritated again. How dare he find fault with me for our breakup? He was the one who cheated on me! However, I did not have the energy to bicker with him about that. What's the point of dwelling on the past and bringing up the topic again? Tamping down my simmering fury, I replied, “I don't want to start a fight. Just tell me what you were thinking when you were drawing the comic.” With a glint in his eyes, he pulled me up and let me sit on his lap. “What are you doing?” Even so, I let him embrace me without struggling. After all, I knew pretty well that I would not be able to break myself free from his embrace, no matter how hard I struggled. “Don't you feel like knowing what was on my mind at that time? Let's browse through the comic together. Let's see if you can get a clue from my comic.” He paused the drama series, clicked open another web browser, and searched for the online version of his comic. I did not utter any words to turn him down. Fine, let's have a look together. There's nothing to fear. Anyway, I have not gone through the comic yet. As instant silence ensued in the study, only the sound of Dominic clicking on the mouse was audible. As a typical comic lover, I was drawn toward any comic effortlessly. Within seconds, I had already engaged myself in the plot of Dominic's comic. Somehow, I sensed something awry the moment I set my eyes on the first page of the comic. If I was not mistaken, the very scene of the male and female lead's dramatic encounter right from the beginning was exactly how Dominic and I got to know each other many years ago. The female lead did not have money to pay for her pancake and was caught red-handed by the male lead. When she was trying to escape, he stood in her way and demanded her to pay for it. Everything is the same, isn't it? I raised my brows and looked at Dominic quizzically. Not bad. Undoubtedly, he was smart to use those dramatic moments in life as his plot in the comic! Even so, I started to sense something amiss as I continued to read on. It was as though I was browsing through snippets between Dominic and me. For instance, there was a scene about the female lead's birthday. In the beginning, the female lead was waiting for the male lead to give her a birthday surprise in anticipation. However, she was disappointed when he did not mention anything the whole day. Subsequently, she felt dejected, thinking that he must have forgotten about it. Little did she realize that the male lead had orchestrated everything and was putting on a show. He ended up giving her an unforgettable surprise.I poked his arm with my finger and questioned him, “Hey, why did you include the moments between us into your comic?” He replied monotonously, “Any similarity to reality is purely coincidental. Haven't you heard about this saying before?” I raised my voice and refuted, “Don't bluff me! How could it be a mere coincidence? Those scenes are exactly the same! Look at the gift given by the male lead later. Isn't that the same as the couple bracelet that you gave me?” I continued to scoff at him, “Even the male lead's speech appears to be the same as yours. It never occurred to me that such loving words would blurt out of your mouth!” I could still remember what Dominic had said when he put the bracelet on my wrist. He had said that he would treat me well for the rest of his life and that we would grow old together. Apart from feeling touched by his sweet nothings, I actually had goosebumps and could not resist laughing my head off at that time. Even now, I could not help feeling amused and was about to burst into laughter. The moment I let out a giggle, I caught a glimpse of Dominic's grim look and his cold eyes. He sneered, “Is it funny? If I'm not mistaken, someone was even on the brink of tears at that moment!” Undeniably, I felt touched for quite a while, yet it was funny when I recalled how he enunciated those words solemnly. Needless to say, I did not dare to comment on that and infuriate him further. Fearing that he would vent his anger by giving me a bite, I decided to zip my mouth. The part bitten by him previously still hurt. I harrumphed to conceal my awkwardness and said sheepishly, “Fine. I'm not laughing anymore. It's not funny at all. Let's go on with the comic.” After that, we continued to browse through the comic page by page in silence. I was unable to refrain myself from letting out a giggle again when I came across the humorous scene whereby the male lead was tricked by the female lead. That was also something which had happened to both of us before. It was April Fools' Day at that time. I had bought a box of Oreo biscuits added with something special online to trick him. Oblivious to my ploy, he had taken a bite of the biscuit without a second thought. The next moment, I laughed my lungs out at the sight of his funny countenance. To be frank, I was a bit regretful for playing the prank on him. Even though Dominic did not swallow the biscuit, he still had mild diarrhea after that. I laughed so hard that my tears flowed out of my eyes. I patted Dominic on the arm and pointed at the screen. “Dominic, do you still remember this biscuit and its unique taste? My goodness! Why were you so obedient at that moment? You tasted it right away without any suspicion!” Dominic's face turned grim in an instant. I bet he must have recalled the embarrassing moment as well. “How dare you mention that again! I had diarrhea for one whole day because of the biscuit. Don't you feel guilty at all?” he fumed. Wiping off my tears, I teased him, “It was just a prank. I never expected that you were so weak at that time. So far, you were the first person having diarrhea because of the biscuit.” He gritted his teeth and hissed at me, “And you have the cheek to say it.” Sensing the simmering fury within him, I tried to please him by serving him another piece of dragon fruit. “Ah! Let's drop the subject. Have some fruits.” He glared at me and swallowed the fruit in one mouthful. A while later, I could not resist but yell out again. “See, my instinct is proven right. Apparently, you have included all our romantic moments in this comic. Stop denying by giving excuses. Ah! You have even included the incident in which I lost the bracelet. Hey! You must have drawn the female lead's face exaggeratedly. I'm sure as hell that I did not cry my heart out like her!” The bracelet was my birthday gift from Dominic. Unfortunately, I had lost it one day and ended up crying like a baby. I just couldn't help it. The bracelets came as a pair, so when I had lost mine, I felt as if we were going to break up. That was why I was upset with it for quite a long time, even though Dominic had bought another pair at once and tried to cheer me up by buying me a sumptuous meal. Even when we had meals in the restaurant later, I started shedding my tears again. As a result, the others in the restaurant assumed that Dominic was picking on me, causing him to turn crimson with embarrassment. Dominic snickered at me. “Are you sure that was not how you looked at that very moment?” I pursed my lips and turned my head away, reluctant to look at him.
