You Were Warned
Sadragon Pierre rushed into our dwelling, ‘’you are not going to believe what happened at the fighting pit?’’ I shrugged my shoulders, ‘’Tell me then!’’ I could tell this was going to be a funny story. When Pierre was like this the story was always good. From the beginning to the end, Pierre left no details out! I had made the assumption a long time ago that Merna was a bird. What I could not assume was her skills. She was quick to learn new tasks. She was sharp to see patterns and there was something about how she positioned her body that told me she was not going to be just anyone. I had told tales of the birds to Pierre, stories that my father told me. Of all the species the birds were renowned for their fighting most of all they were known for their magickal skills. They could take anything! And expand on it to a whole new level. I always wished for the neruppu paravai to come back from the ashes and sands of time. I thought it was a pointless wish … today I am proven that it is true. The neruppu paravai has risen from the ashes. I placed our daughter Calamis back in her bed when I heard a light tap on the door. "I have it!" Pierre said as he stomped to the door. Coming out of Calamis' bedroom, "Who is it?" I asked as I neared the entryway. Stepping to the side, Merna stood there with a young boy. "This is Obsacus ... Merna has to speak with us!" Pierre had a look that was of shock and uncertainty. Strolling into our dwellings, "Come on my dear ..." Merna glanced briefly up at me, "I know he looks frightening, but Sadragon is actually a big softy!" Pulling on Merna's shirt she kneeled on the floor, "Are they going to be my new daddies?" Smiling sweetly at the boy, "I have to talk to my platonic brothers first!" She kissed him on the head. Pierre strolled over to the boy, "I will get you some toys to play with!" "Pierre ... he likes to draw, just show him where he can sit and draw while we speak." Merna told Pierre. While Pierre and the boy were gone, "It has been a while!" I pointed out. "A lot longer for me than it was for you!" Merna pointed to the chair, "May I sit?" "Yes!" I sat on the opposite side of her. "Would you like something to drink?" Pierre offered as he came back. "No ... No! I will not be long! I will get straight to the point!" Merna was nervously rubbing her legs with her hands. "Obsacus is an orphan, from the information that we read, he was found in the woods. With no mother coming to calm him, he was placed into the system." In my mind, the dots were starting to add up. But Pierre and I allowed Merna to continue speaking. Merna did not leave out any detail about Obsacus. She told us that the foster care family that was supposed to care for the boy, had been grossly miss using him. By the time Merna and her group were able to get to the boy, he had already killed the foster care parents. Merna continued to say that Obsacus is just like her, a phoenix. I glared at her, "are you sure? No offence but they are a myth!" Merna started to giggle, "you remember when I told you there is a darkness inside of me, that I could not control?" She was directing the question towards Pierre. "Yes!" "After a lot of work the constellation and Cancer found out that I am a hybrid phoenix, the other half is a dragon!" The story was just getting good, Pierre had gotten up to get us all a drink. Merna continued to tell us that her skill was death. She can cause it, taking out a whole army or town. Merna declared that she did not know this for sure, it was in written documentation that had been saved and in the constellation's possession. It also stated that a phoenix can progress through the stages of decaying like a tree or a rotting corpse. Merna said she tested out the theory that was written in the scrolls. She also told us that her kind can tell when someone is nearing the last stages of a living organism's life. She told us that she was able to aid a female elderly. Bringing her comfort and peace. For many, death is a frightening thing. She has the skill to ease everything and make things more comfortable. The other thing she can do is tell if the land is dying from lack of care. Or when the water has been poisoned. Finishing off with her story she told us Obsacus is in the early stages of his powers coming out. With training, Merna has been about to control the death aspect of herself. However there is no control when she is emotionally stressed."Obsacus needs a home and parents that will adopt him. Chaos, Ashur, Ime and I talked about it already. We all will care for him if ..." She glanced at the both of us, "If you do not want to care for him." Pierre motioned his hands through his hair. We did not have to say a thing, we both were thinking the same. To take on a child that we have no idea what damage is going on in his mind, was a huge task to take on. We also had our daughter to care for. "I understand this is a big thing! And I do not want you to answer me now, just think about it. Obsacus is a loving boy … but … he does not come without troubles. He is isolated from the other children because they fear him. He has a nasty temper and with that the darkness comes out!" Pierre gave Merna a cocky grin, "worse than your temper?" Merna cleared her throat and gave Pierre the middle finger. "Obsacus can not enter the physical realm, the constellation council and I agreed there are to many dangers in doing that. Until Obsacus is old enough to understand more and regulate his temper and control his nature, it is best we keep him … more relaxed!" Merna smiled up at Pierre, "I know it is not fair to ask you to take on a responsibility that is challenging. I was a lot older than Obsacus but you helped me out when no one was there. You did not judge me … that is what Obsacus needs. I would take him as my own … but we are so busy that he would be taken care of by a … Serf who will not know how to deal with his outburst of emotions." ‘’What makes him different from you?’’ Pierre interrupted Merna. ‘’There is not much of a difference except that I am older and though my life was hard … I was not abused like he was.’’ We all turned our heads when we could hear the sounds of children laughing. Getting up we head in the direction of Calamis’s room. There was my daughter floating in the middle of the room with a mixture of brilliant colours of light rotating around her as little Obsacus used his powers to entertain Calamis. "We are friends!" Obsacus announced it to us. Merna strolled over to Obsacus, "I would like it if you kept her body on the floor, safety first before fun … remember!" Obsacus slowly placed Calamis on the floor and the light dissipated. Calamis pitched a fit when she realized everything was back to normal. Not even thinking, Obsacus ran over to her and scooped her up. It was comical watching a five year old boy picking up a soon to be two year old. Calamis wrapped her little arms around his neck demanding him to play with her. "It is time for rest!" Pierre went over to the children.Obsacus refused to let our daughter go. Insisting he can carry her to the bed. When he tried to leave, Calamis started to cry with tears rolling down her face. I do not know who was a chump for Calamis Pierre or Obsacus. Pierre was trying to get our daughter to calm down while Obsacus was crawling into the bed lying down on the other side. Getting under the sheets, Calamis calmed down and snuggled into him. Pierre was about to correct the situation when I linked him telling him to let it be for this moment. We had a lot to consider. But the first convincing point was how Calamis responded to Obsacus’ being here. Getting back to the sitting room, I turned to Merna, "I am not going to say yes or no … we have to discuss things with Amra, when she gets back from visiting her father. Until then we will provide a dwelling that Obsacus will be safe and thrive." Both Pierre and Merna were happy with the final say. We saw Merna off and glared at one another. "I want to keep the boy!" Pierre said once the door was closed. "Yes Amra lives with us, but in the end we are the providers. Having Obsacus here … it …" I kissed my beloved mate, "it feels like he belongs here! As if our family is now complete!" I smile lovingly at Pierre. "We will need to get the boy proper training … I am not sure where to start with that! And we will need to get more things for the little man!" "He also has to get to his training with the other children! I think it is best if we keep with that, it will teach him discipline, something that Merna thrived off of! There is so much that needs to be done. I will make a list of things and get everything ready. We can tackle the list one thing at a time. When Amra gets here we will introduce both of them." "Relax my love, we will get things completed. You are acting the same way when you found out Amra was with child!"
