You Were Warned

Chapter 149 Emma

Emma Two times I had grabbed onto Markous’ arm to stop him from losing his temper. In the past, this was all I had to do to get him to calm down. Every time I did this, it appeared as if Markous would redirect his wrath at me, yet never had he hit me in front of others. I was his golden girl. The eye catcher was in his arms. He thrived off others noticing him shining. The image was everything to him. As long as I did not make a fool out of myself and allowed Markous to get all of the praise and lime light. I was safe! Besides, Markous would never mark up my face … my looks were everything to him! He provided the lifestyle I craved … in return, I made his appearance even better. I never asked questions about the lipstick on the collar of his shirts. If he wanted to fuck other girls, who was I to question. I loved the expensive things and refused to lose the great life that I was given. I stayed out of his business affairs … to ask questions … my weekly allowance would be cut by ninety percent to nothing at all. How could I ever afford that … so I play the perfect role the best he has ever gotten! No one will ever be as obedient as myself! I was shocked that Merna, Pierre’s wife, was not going to stay the weekend with us. It could have been a load of fun to have her with us. I had overheard Pierre explain to Steve that their home was a ten minutes drive from the site. That Merna had to work on her business this weekend. With the move, she was behind on her work. Camile being herself, “What type of business does your wife have?” She seemed chipper enough for someone who was weak and spineless. I could tell that Pierre was proud of his wife and the work she did. It was evident that he cared for her immensely and they were in love with one another. “She sells charms … ingredients for spell work and healing … and when it is requested, she will investigate locations that appear haunted, free of charge! Only if the client needs word done does Merna charge the client.” Pierre kept his happy composure as Camile started to pale. “You mean she is a witch?” Her tone was shaky. I could not help myself as I started to laugh! Markous pushed his way past Pierre. That had earned him another death glare. “Merna is not a witch but a very talented sorceress. She is able to see things others do not. Hear things that others can not. Most of all she can solve issues that others struggle with. Merna has a five star rating!” The pride Pierre had for Merna was overwhelmingly convincing. “She is just a fraud like the others!” Markous yelled from a distance. Markous was wandering around the place, holding his phone up in the air searching for a signal. One at a time we entered the clearing. Steve had nicely placed the tent down for me, something I was not able to carry. I had all of my belongings plus Markous’. I would have thought he would have aided me, yet he decided that this was labour that was below him. I pushed the feeling of rage down to the bottom of my feet and kept the smile on my face. There was no way I was going to let this dampen my spirit. Dropping our belongings on the ground, “Sweetheart, will you be helping me set up the tent?” I asked, coating my words with honey. Not once looking at me, “Make yourself useful and get the work done yourself!” He continued to glare at his phone. Half way through getting the tent done, “Where is the GOD DAMN TOWER? I can not find a signal anywhere!” Markous started to take a childish temper tantrum. I was proud of myself! Markous left me to put up the tent. Somehow I managed to get it all together. However I have to admit, it felt like something invisible was helping me to make things easier. Over to the side, I saw Camile getting help from Pierre, “is your wife really a … sorceress?” she asked unsure if she should be asking the question. “My wife has a five star rating from over a million regular buyers.” He paused and looked in my direction. “She is the real deal!” Camile forced out a smile, “anyway she could come up with a potion to change the temperament of fools and retards?” Pierre began to laugh as everyone was glaring at Markous making a fool out of himself. “There is only one cure to stupidity and I am not going to jail because of him!” Pierre was referring to Markous and his display for everyone to see. “Markous has always been like this! He is the apple of his daddy’s eyes and everyone else's nightmare.” Camile spoke ill of my boyfriend. If it were any other time I would have defended Markous’ honour. However, even I had to admit that he was starting to become out of control. All the tents had been set up! As Pierre was instructing us on what we had to do next to make a secure location that is when Markous piped up and told Pierre that is why he paid him the big dollars to be here. He expected Pierre to do all of the work. I huffed out loud! I was promised a weekend of fun and adventure and there was no way I was going to let Markous' poor temper disrupt the weekend. Pierre strolled over to Markous, pushing his finger into his chest. Pierre yelled at Markous, “You did not pay me the big bucks to put up with your shit!” Looking down, Markous told him to get his finger off his chest! I could not see how Pierre was looking at Markous, but I was not a complete fool. Markous was one hair away from committing a murder. And we so happened to be in a location where Markous could easily hide the body and make all of us swear not to say a word. The worst part, we all would not say a thing. Pivoting Markous ordered Pierre to finish the rest of the setup of the camp site. He also informed Pierre that if he needed extra hands Steve plus myself were at his disposal. I could see how I was not going to get my weekend of fun and excitement. Frowning at Markous, I was starting to see how this whole trip was a massive nightmare. Placing my charm on, I strolled over to Pierre and rested my hands around his arm, it was muscular and firm. I wondered how loyal he was to his wife. I have never met a male that I could not seduce and get whatever I wanted … married or not! Batting my eyelashes, "Where is your wife?" I said with a hint of lust. Pierre glared down at my hands. “I am sure you are not completely deaf and heard me tell Steve that Merna had to go home and work!” I swear he let out a growl before I moved my hands. From the trees, I thought I heard another growl that made everyone of us jump and turn around. Bringing my attention back to our survivalist, I snorted, "And you were highly recommended! Markous should fire your ass!" Pierre started to laugh with an evil glare in his eyes, "you should have listened to Merna's warning!" He said into my ear. Pierre’s eyes were void of all eye colour. A shiver ran down my spine as I felt my chest tightening up from fear. Backing away from this man. Turning I started to run towards Markous. Steve and Camile had been given a warning. Why had my man and I not been given a warning? I was halfway to Markous when I saw a shadow charging towards him. From behind me, I could hear Camile screaming! I tried to yell at Markous to warn him but I was too late. Markous was thrown to the ground with a thud. “Never touch what is mine!” Words laced with liquid poison had been hissed in my ears. Turning my head, two glowing red eyes stared back at me. Panic reached every part of my being, I screamed as if my life depended on it. With one swing from the massive shadow, I was thrown to the ground. The last thing I remembered was Pierre hysterically laughing, “You should have listened to Merna … you fucking fools!”
