You Were Warned

Chapter 147 Steve

Steve The beginning of this trip started as I had it planned in my mind. Markous being himself, the arrogant pompous arse as he has been since birth. Instead of lifting his weight, he treated us like we were below him, something I have been subjected to all my life. I groaned internally! ‘I had to deal with this prick for only a couple of days, I can do it!’ I coached myself. As the fool that I am, I knew this weekend was going to be disastrous! The only one who did not seem to be fazed at all by what was going on was Emma. To be honest I could not tell if she was naturally oblivious to my brother's attitude or if she enjoyed being treated like his personal slave. Whatever it might be, I can not figure out why she would stick around for Markous’ shit. I watch Merna gliding through the woods as if she belonged here. I could see why Pierre and her were married. The two of them together was like a force to be reckoned with. I found it suspicious how Merna was behaving. Here and there I spotted Merna motioning her head toward the rustling of bushes. I had to admit that this place left me feeling uneasy. What she said repeated itself in my mind again. Giving my head a mental shake, I started to snicker, ‘she is a fraud and nothing more!’ I thought to myself. After walking for over fifteen minutes we came to an opening to a field. Beside a tent, I could see the coolers of food that Merna and Pierre had dropped off. Aiming their feet back to the opening, they waited there for the rest of the group to join. Merna was leaning on a tree with her sight locked on me. I will not lie, I felt a little intimidated. Strolling over to me, "It is not too late, you can head back now!" Merna said as I came up to her. Not once did she blink a dead expression on her face. I gave her a pleasant smile not wanting to encourage Pierre's wrath. "You seem like a real nice lady, but I do not believe a thing you are saying." I forced a chuckle out of my mouth. From the corner of my eyes, I thought I had seen something move from behind the tree to a nearby bush. Following with a sound that I could not distinguish. Merna’s eyes were glued on the spot. Her expression was that of someone who did not have any fucks to give. At this point, I did not know who I feared the most, Merna or Pierre … maybe they are equally intimidating. Inhaling then pushing herself off the tree. Merna gave a slight nod, "remember the name Anatu!” I swear she looked me up and then down. “Anatu will know what you mean to her!" I glared at her as if she was growing ten heads. Who was Anatu? Why would I need to remember that name? What is this all about? I was so confused as to what this woman was speaking about!Yelling, "What is that bitch babbling about?" I would love to say my brother was coming to my rescue to save me from this crazy lady. That I knew was not the case. He was only barking to show off his display of dominance. A shiver ran down my side as I saw how Merna shifted her body position to a stance of attack. It was not a poster that spoke defensive mode. Merna was reading herself to attack my brother if he did anything stupid. I did not know if I should step in front of this woman to protect her from my brother's blows … or see if she was capable of holding her own. “I was WARNING Steve here … AGAIN … that if you all set up your tents, none of you are going to make it out!” Her eyes bounced around all of us. Turning her head towards Markous, "Oh ... Markous! You are going to get your just desserts!" She chuckled dryly, "What they have planned for you ... Karma will serve a side order of fuck around and find out!" Now I was convinced she did not need Pierre to defend her. I was sure that she could clock my brother full force. Sending him to the ground, landing on his ass! I could feel my lips turning upwards. ‘I think I would pay to see that!’ I thought to myself. I forced a cough as I covered my mouth with my hand. This was the only thing I could think of to hide my intrusive thought that brought a smile to my face. Markous was a couple of feet away from us, he had his death stare, glaring Merna up and down. His girlfriend was close behind. Emma bounced her sight from me to my brother, "What is going on?" Without a second thought, "The redheaded bitch told Steven that if we stay here ... we will never leave … alive!" ‘Pierre to the rescue!’ I thought as Pierre marched his feet towards Markous. That halted Markous’ advance towards Merna. Turning my head to Merna. I spotted Merna glaring at Pierre, once their sight connected, Pierre halted his advancement on Markous. From the side, “OH!” Camile had a hint of sarcasm and amusement in her words. “This is going to be a long weekend!” Yet the glare was easy to tell ... if Merna had not stopped him, Pierre possibly would have killed him. Merna’s right hand was balled up into a fist! Merna glared at me, "last chance Steve!" She tilted her head slightly, lips pressed together as she eyed my brother with disdain. I shook my head as I watched her stroll away. For a moment I thought I saw Merna glance at something, and tilting her head downwards. Then brought it up slowly, still keeping her eyes on the same spot.‘Did she see something the rest of us could not?’ I thought to myself. Shaking my head, ‘she is a fraud! There is no such thing as ghosts …’ I snorted, ‘and this weekend can not get over with fast enough!’ I thought to myself. The belongings were starting to get heavy, “Eh … Pierre, can I set up my tent anywhere I want to?” I could not help but notice how black Pierre’s eyes were as he stared at my brother. “Pick a spot to your liking! It really does not matter to me.” His tone was calm but his expression was nasty. Shrugging my shoulders, “okay!” I mouthed. ‘This weekend is going to be very VERY long!’
