Revenge of the Rejected

Chapter 76

Charles immediately regained his composure and took a step back. "Listen, I have my ego too, lady. Tell me if you're interested or not. You were all into me this morning, bugging me and clinging onto me and I decide that there's nothing for me to lose so I could tally with you, but next you accuse me of using you. Who's using who in this stuff? You want to use me because your oldie is not enough for you. Isn't that what's happening here?" He attacked her, feigning anger and she blinked, rethinking everything and the anger cleared from her eyes. "Well…" she was saying but he held up a hand. "And did I ever suggest you helping me with your husband? Think back on our conversation. I only commented about how the dinner wasn't perfect because your husband wasn't exactly pleasing. You're the one who went off bragging about how you could turn his heart of stone into foam." He shot at her. "I wasn't bragging!" She said and her eyes began to shine with tears. "Wait. You're crying? Damn you're unbelievable. Listen, let's forget all about this. I'm very sure you'll find some other man who's wishing to dally witu a married woman." Charles said, and made to turn away but she held his hand. "I'm not crying. It's just because you're raising your voice. No one ever raises their voice at me." She told him, still holding onto his hand securely. "Just chill, okay. It was just a passing though. God, I'm so tired of hearing old jokes and sentence that used to make ladies fall back in the nineties. I need someone with real great lines that I can brag to my friends about so while you're here, let me make use of you. Our deal is still on right?" She asked, and he folded his hands once more, taking her hand off his. "So I show you I can make you happy, and you convince Alaric?" He asked, and she gave a little smile. "That I promise you I can do." she assured him, and he held out his hand as a sign of a deal, and she took it from him, smiling widely. "I have to go. Alaric would definitely be getting worried. I didn't stay too long the last time I escorted you." She told him, as she began to move backwards. "We meet here tomorrow night, same time." "It's perfect. Alaric won't even be around tomorrow." She added. "He won't be there to ask where I'm going. If he returns before me, he'll probably think I'm with my ladies." "Great. See you tomorrow." He said, and turned away, walking further towards the road, and as he got into the cab he hailed, he smiled to myself. She was so easy. It didn't matter she disgusted him. Business men didn't whatever they had to do for business sake. The next night, Charles and Josephine met at the spot they had agreed to meet, although Charles arrived a little late. "You're late." She said with sunglasses on her face even though it was night. "Accept my apology." He told her, and she smiled. She had really dressed up for a common dinner. Her hair was in a hair flip and she was wearing a super short blazer dress with heels that made her almost as tall as he was, and a purse the tiny strap of which she held by her side. "Well I will. I have no choice of course." She said, and led him to her car. "Here." She said, tossing him the keys. "I should drive. I'm the man." Charles muttered sarcastically as he went round the car to sit in the driver's seat, but she was still standing there. "Don't you think you should open the door for me?" She asked, and he looked at her for a while before smiling. "Sorry, I'm not that kind of romantic guy. If there's anything you must know, it's that I'm nothing close to romantic." He told her heartbreakingly before getting into the car, and slamming the door. Did she think he was going to turn into old Alaric for her? And doodle at her every word? She had to be kidding him. Already he was hating everything about the night. She got into the car, and slammed the door with a pout on her face and he started the ignition and drove off before she could even out on her seatbelt. "What the hell is wrong with you!?" She yelled as she struggled to fix her seatbelt and it wasn't helping that he was reversing rather sharply and in a minute was racing down the road. "What are you doing? Is this a car race?" She asked, holding onto the window. "I said what are you doing?" She screamed once more. "I'm making you happy." He retorted, and her mouth fell open . Was that his version of making her happy? When Josephine got down from the car, she stumbled a bit and held onto him, but he pretended like he didn't know and kept on walking, making her hand lose hold of his shirt. They found seats at the center of the restaurant and Josephine stared at him all the while he concentrated on the menu. "You're different." She told him but he didn't reply. "Is this what being with a younger man feels like? Heck Alaric can't drive like this." She told him. "Pasta. I'm ordering pasta." He told her like she hadn't been talking and she raised a brow."Well, I'm ordering that too. But, I have a question." She asked, and he finally looked up at her, acknowledging her. "What's that?" "Are you sure you're also interested in doing this with me?" "Of course I am. This is what you wanted remember?" He replied like it was obvious. "Well, I'll just take it that you're a different man." "That will be…" he was saying but froze as he suddenly saw someone coming into the restaurant with a group of businesssmen and it was no other than Alaric himself.
