Revenge of the Rejected
Charles and James left the hot courtroom with smiles on their faces. Finally, they had seen the end of Mr. Lincoln and his wife, and Charles knew the same thing would happen to Tyson and Carlos if they ever dared to show themselves. Well, they didn't even need to show themselves because Charles would bring them out, and make them an additional source of disgrace to the Lincolns, excluding himself. “Can I leave first?” James asked, “I'm going to see Amelia's parents today.” He added. “Oh. I wish you well on that. Make sure to please her parents, and thanks for everything.” Charles said, tapping James on his right shoulder. “You don't have to thank me every time. I work for you.” James replied with a smile, even though he was pleased with his efforts being acknowledged. “You're always so humble. I need to thank you for that too.” Charles added, and James smiled. “Do you want to have a little drink before you leave?” “I would have loved that, but maybe we can save it for next time. Amelia will be waiting. “ James replied, politely, and Charles nodded, taking out his phone to call his driver, since James would be taking his car— which the both of them had used to go to the court. James gave a smile, turned around, and left. He also took out his phone, as he got into his car, prepared to call Amelia. She picked it on the first ring like she had been waiting for his call, and answered in a sweet and bubbly voice. “Hello.” She greeted. “Hi there.” James returned, smiling, as he fixed his seatbelt, not knowing what other way to reply, “I'm on my way. Are you still at home? I'll pick you up.” He offered, starting the ignition. “There's no way I'll still be at home on a day as important as this. I've been ready and waiting, hours ago. I saw the trial, and I must say I'm quite satisfied.” She said, and James smiled in delight. “All that is solved now. They can continue whatever drug trafficking they want to continue in their cells.” He replied, and she burst into laughter. “I'd love to see them try. By the way, I'm at Lattes n Americano. I was just having a nice cup of latte, while I watched the trial.” She said, and James smiled. “Maybe we could have another cup while preparing our nerves.” He suggested, and she chuckled.“I'd love that. I'll be waiting. Hurry, okay?” “Alright I will.” James said, and ended the call. He drove as fast as he could to the café, as he would rather not keep Amelia waiting longer than she already had. In minutes, he parked his car safely, and got down, heading straight for the cafeteria. She was in a beautiful yellow blazer jacket that seemed to accentuate her slender figure, which was simply the best to James. She saw him, and waved, with a bright smile. He walked over to her, and sat opposite her. “I hope you didn't wait long.” He asked, with a brighter smile. “If I said I did, how would you make it up to me?” “By making sure we get your parents' approval.” He replied, and Amelia gave a slow blush. She liked his reply. “Alright. That's a nice reply. So which would it be? Latte or Americano?” She asked. “Whichever you want. I'm not picky.” He replied, and she chuckled, before calling for a waiter. “Over here.” She signalled, raising her hand. The waiter walked up to them, with a smile. “What would you like to have?” He asked. “Two cups of lattes. Full cream, please.” She ordered, and he nodded, noting her order. He left, and returned shortly with two cups of lattes, with a heart shaped pattern on it. “This is beautiful.” James commended, raising the cup to my lips. “As beautiful as I am?” Amelia asked, hiding behind her hands, and cup, and James chuckled. “No way. Why are you hiding behind your cup?” He asked, still smiling. “I'm not. I'm enjoying my latte.” She replied, laughing. “I haven't seen anything as beautiful as you are, yet.” He complimented her, and she blushed. “Alright. Let's not start with the sweet words. We should be pouring out all our nervousness now, so they won't affect us when we get there.” She pointed, and James laughed. “And how exactly do we do that?” He asked her. “Uh… actually, I have no idea.” She replied, and laughed. “How about we just talk, and think about crossing that bridge later?” He suggested. “Okay, that's way better.” She said, taking another sip out of her latte, “I think they have the best Latte here. I keep wanting to come back, and have cup after cup of Lattes.” “That's true. I also feel the same way. The Latte is top-notch for a little café.” “They'll make it big soon.” Amelia commented, taking a large gulp of her Latte. The both of them continued to converse, as they drank their Lattes greedily. When they were done, they got up, before the sweetness made them order more cups. They walked out of the café, and Amelia felt her heart pounding. They weren't even there yet, and she was also feeling anxious. What would her father say? Would he be mad? What if he said mean things to James? She knew how extreme her father could be when it felt like he was losing control of the things he desperately wanted to hold on to. James opened the car door for her, and she stepped in, pulling the seat belt over her to fix it. “You feel anxious, right? Don't be.” James said, even though he was also feeling anxious himself. They began to drive, and Amelia took a deep breath. “No matter what happens today, I'm leaving my father's house a free woman. He won't hold me down anymore.” She declared boldly, and James admired her resolve. Standing up to one's parents was always hard to do because no matter how grown up the person was; their parents could make them feel like a child with a single look. Then Amelia's phone rang, and upon bringing it out, she gasped, staring at it for a while, before showing it to James. It was her father.
