Revenge of the Rejected

Chapter 166

Amelia found real comfort in James' arms and she had never felt more happy that she had decided to stand up to her father. Being with him was all she wanted. He was calm, cool, receiving, caring and knew exactly what she wanted. So why should she leave him and keep on going on blind dates with men she would never date? Amelia began to think of how things would turn out if she really managed to stand up to her father. She would no longer have to come in late at night, and leave early. She also wouldn't have to meet men she wasn't interested in, and go for business meetings that were always tiring. If she decided to go on a thousand dates with James, her father wouldn't stop her. Afterall, she was a grown woman already. She could make the decisions she considered best for herself. The thought of things becoming easier thrilled Amelia and she could not help getting more and more excited by the moment. James released her and she smiled. "I'm going to thank you for listening. For not cutting in, and for…" She was saying, but James put a finger on her lips. "Since when did not being deaf become a thing to thank a person for?" He asked, and she scoffed with a little laugh. "What?" "I have ears, so I'm bound to listen to you, Amelia. It's nothing to thank me for." He said, and she stared at him for a while. "Why are you staring? Did I suddenly become too handsome?" "You become handsome by the second, but I was staring because I'm more sure that I'm doing the right thing. I just hope my father doesn't still try to control me. I hope everything is sorted out peacefully." She said, fiddling with her fingers, and James held her hand. "He will listen to you. I'm sure of that." He said, and she looked up into his eyes, which seemed to have encouragement even without his words. "So… tell me. How did you feel when I left you?" She asked, and he laughed. "I don't know. It's embarrassing." "Oh come on." "Why would you want to know about that?" He asked, smiling."Because women are naturally curious creatures." "Alright. Are you curious to know how ice cream will pool out onto a cone when we go out to buy it?" He asked, and Amelia burst into laughter. "Are you being shy?" "Shy to start explaining how sad I was? I'm no poet, Amelia." "Then be one for me." "Seriously. Alright. Here I come." Then he began, dramatically, "The pain ripped my soul apart like two waters fighting to gain dominion. The tears lashed back and forth like the endless and powerful waves of the ocean on a stormy night…" Amelia began to clap and laugh. "Oh my God! What was that!?" She continued to laugh, and James watched her. Amelia was beautiful. "So the pain and your soul were fighting? And can you explain how your tears were lashing back and forth?" She asked, with a wide smile, but burst into laughter once more, as she saw the blank look on James' face. "Alright. I'm definitely not a poet." He admitted, with a laugh. The both of them began to talk and laugh, happy to spend quality time with each other. ~ It was the long-awaited day that had kept Charles awake for two nights. The day of the trial. He was going to watch his father go down before his eyes. Finally, it was his time. Charles and James met at the company and after taking care of a few issues, they got into the car that would take them straight to the court for the hearing. "I've checked everything we need to check. I'm very sure Mr. Lincoln will try to deny it, so I had the police get a warrant to search his house. I knew there were bound to be more drugs in various hidden locations and we were right. We found bags of heroine under a floorboard in his room." James reported to Charles, leaving no details out. "Heroine? That's another illegal drug added to the list." Charles said, and shook his head with a smile. "Wait till the world hears he was a drug dealer." He muttered. "We also have Mr. Anthony to give his testimony against Mr. Lincoln for attempted murder against you."James added. "Great. Add attempted murder to charges for fraud, embezzlement, and drug dealing. He's in for it, and can't escape." Charles said in delight. Not long after, they arrived at their destination and waited for the trial to begin Shortly, the trial began and the judge walked in. Everyone stood to their feet. The lawyers, and the people bowed, and the judge returned their bow. The bailiff then ordered everyone to be seated, and announced that court had started. "Court is now in session. Please be seated." The judge introduced himself and so did the counsel. "Are there any issuses that counsel wish to raise before we get started?" He asked, but their replies were negative. The trial started, and the charges against Mr. Lincoln were laid out, but his lawyer denied them all. "I believe if we search through Mr. Lincoln's home, we would not find the drugs that are in the picture." His lawyer defended. "What about underneath the floorboards?" The prosecutor asked, and the lawyer kept shut. "You will not find a single drug." Mr. Lincoln said when he wasn't supposed to utter a word, and was reprimanded. Then, the video of the men entering Mr. Lincoln's house, and searching the house was played, but was cut so the people could easily see how bags of heroine were found underneath the floorboard. Mr. Lincoln's eyes roamed around in fear, and he bit his lips hard. He was caught, and there was nothing he could do amymore. Then, all of a sudden, he got up and pointed towards Charles. "Him! He's with me in the business!"
