Revenge of the Rejected

Chapter 113

"You can't bring my daughter in here." Mrs. Penny protested immediately. "You have no right. You can't." "Why do you think I can't? Of course I can easily start investigating her, and who knows, I might just find something interesting." The detective said, and Mrs. Penny glared at him. "You'll never find anything interesting. However, if you feel you have so much time on your hands, I'll be more than glad to let you know you can start a full investigation on her." She knew he couldn't do it, but was just threatening her because she was being rude and difficult. "Oh sure. I'll be kind enough to put her in the same cell with you." He replied, and she gave him a smile. After all, Angela was clean and had nothing dirty on her hands, so he could search all he wanted. The detective gave Mrs. Penny a dirty look before he exited the investigation room, However, when he had left Mrs. Penny's facade went tumbling down. She had not expected things to turn out the way they had, and had not planned for it. ~ Angela stayed up the whole night crying. She had never felt more alone in her whole life. Her mother had been dragged away just like that, and there had been nothing she had been able to do. Mark was in hiding, and her mum was in prison. Suddenly, the house felt so empty, and devoid of people. What was she to do on her own? She couldn't even tell her mother that she told her so. Those damn assassins had not done their jobs as they ought to. If they had, then there wouldn't be the problems she was facing at the moment. The next morning, as early as she could, she awoke, dressed up, and immediately went to see Charles. The news had gone all over, and she had been informed of the hospital he had been admitted to. How those reporters managed to get such news was beyond her. Her fear at the moment was them getting news of her mother being taken to the police station. Angela packed her hair into a tight bun and proceeded to leave the house. She got herself a cab and rushed to the hospital where Charles was. She had to at least see that he was fine, so probably they could let her mother go, or go easy on her if they saw that Charles didn't have much injuries. When she walked on the corridor going to Charles' room, she felt a little anxious because she didn't know how he would receive her. She was very sure he already knew what her mother had done, and wasn't sure she'd even be given the chance to step in. Angela moistened her lips, and knocked on the door. Through the transparent parts of the door, she saw Vera and James, and felt even more uneasy. Vera got up from the school she had been sitting on, and made our way to the door pushing it open. "What do you want?" She asked, and Angela looked past her into the room. "Not much. I simply wish to see Charles." She replied, and hated the condescending look Vera gave her. Vera looked back, as if asking for permission from Charles, and Charles nodded. She took a step back, and Angela walked in, feeling a little guilty. But, it was probably not guilt. She was probably feeling sad about her mother. "How are you feeling?" She asked softly, approaching his bedside. "Better." He replied, and Angela looked at the bandages that were used to wrap his arm. "You don't look better." She replied, reaching out to touch his face, but he averted her touch, and she folded her fingers, withdrawing her hand. "He's not feeling too good yet, so you should understand he doesn't want visitors at the moment." James told her, and she bit her lip. "Did it hurt?" She asked, knowing it was a useless question, but didn't know what else to ask. "No, it didn't." Charles replied sarcastically, totally not in the mood to see, or talk to her. "I understand it probably put you in a really bad mood. I'm sorry, I'll leave now." She said, getting up from her stool, expecting Charles to say something, or in the least, show signs of guilt about her leaving just like that, but he didn't say a word. Nor did James or Vera say a word. Angela left his ward, and walked quickly down the corridor. It had been really embarrassing, but after all, he was fine. Her mother had attempted to kill him, but hadn't succeeded. Charles had only been left with a minor injury. Angela proceeded to get to the station to see her mother, and took a quick cab. When she got there, she asked to see her mother, and her request was granted. "I just returned from seeing Charles, mother. He didn't have any injuries. He's fine. He's eating, and talking, so…" "Forget about all that, Angela. I'm not about to beg or do something of the sort." Mrs. Penny snapped. Angela looked at her mother. The outfit she was wearing didn't suit her at all, and she looked like she had gotten a little lean. Angela had always known her mother was the proud type but at that moment, she really didn't need her pride. All Angela needed was her mother by her side. How things had happened the way they did, she had no idea, and she could not help feeling she was next. "I'm scared. He refuses to die, so what am I supposed to do? It's like we've tried every single way there is to kill in a way that's not too consequential, but every single time, we have failed." "Angela, don't talk about stuff like that outside. Especially not here." Mrs. Penny snapped, and Angela bit her lip. "I'm going to stop at nothing. I'm going to make sure I bring Charles down. Angela, I'll need you to reach out to your father. I'll need you to tell him to continue what we were unable to finish. He should destroy Charles. I don't know when I'll get out of here, nor do I know what the judge would decide on my case, so you should tell your father. Being in prison will not stop me."
