Revenge of the Rejected

Chapter 110

Angela ought to feel rest-assured, and calm. Instead, she couldn't explain the nervous feeling that had come over her. She sat on her bed, knees to her chest, and her phone in her hands, waiting until she'd see the news that Charles had passed away in a restaurant where some robbers had raided. Everything about it was wrong. Although her mother had told her to keep calm, she just couldn't. She had asked how things were going, and her mother had told her the men were on their way to ambush Charles at a restaurant he reserved for a company dinner. Why would they attack him at a company dinner? Did they intend to kill others too? What if one of them managed to call the cops. She had tried to warn her mother, and ask them to pull back, but Mrs. Penny had told her they were professionals, and would kill Charles immediately he was identified. That did not put Angela at rest. Charles was just too good at surviving. What if he pretended to fall dead? What if he manage to blend among the people, and escape? She knew Charles wasn't the type to leave people behind in trouble, but she couldn't help feeling the plan was sloppy. And there was Mark, Mark who she assured that he would hear of Charles death since the previous night. Was he going to live in hiding all his life? What if Charles eventually caught him? Angela did not like any of the plan. She felt it would only lead to her disappointing Mark once more. Those look in his eyes were a haunting one. She couldn't stop seeing him whenever she closed her eyes. Finally, she got up from the bed, and stormed to the living room. "Have they killed him?" She asked her mother who happened to be pouring herself a cup of water. "I feel you're being too sensitive about this issue. They won't pick my calls even if I call them. I told you they're professional. They wouldn't let anything distract them. Don't be so worked up about this issue. You can't possible want Charles dead more than I do." She said, placing her glass to her lips. She took a long drink, but that wasn't enough for Angela. "Mum…" "What the hell is wrong with you!? Why do you keep disturbing me? Is it not just to get one person killed? How strong can Charles be against seven men? Seven men with guns! I'm beginning to suspect there's something more behind all this...""There is nothing more, mum! Maybe I just want Charles dead more than you do." "Find a place to calm down, Angela. The men will to their work. That's that on this issue." Mrs. Penny snapped, slamming her glass of water on the table, and spilling some water in the process. She gave Angela one last annoyed look, and turned away. Charles was beginning to irritate Angela. Why did he have to survive everytime? She was only looking out for her brother. Why did she have to get shouted on? In anger, she stormed off to her room, and sat back in her bed with all the question marks in her head. What was going on at the moment? She wanted to know desperately, and hated that desperate feeling. "It's fine, Angela. Tomorrow, Charles would be nothing, but a corpse. He surely can't maneuver his way around seven men with guns, could he? His face had been given out to the men, and Charles stood out pretty well in any crowd, so it was given that they'd spot him easily. She heaved a sigh, and picked up her phone once more. If she had to wait all morning for the news she would, or much more better, wait for the men to call back saying their mission was completed. ~ Vera took in deep breaths, as tears streamed down her face. What was going on back there? The lady had assured her the cops had been sent out and were on their way, but there was still no sign of a siren. Hadn't they been sent out minutes ago? Just as Vera wallowed in her fear, the door opened, and she froze. "Woah. There's a damsel hiding out in here." An amused manly voice rang out, and even in her shocked, and scared-out-of-her-wits state, she managed to drop the hand holding the phone over to her side. "So scared you can't even look at me, honey?" He asked, and Vera's finder tapped the square indication at the bottom of her phone, and cleared the records. Then, she clicked on a random app, and dropped the phone. If he knew she had called the cops, then it might not be pretty for her. She turned her head slowly to the man, and saw he had a large scar on the side of his head.It looked horrible. Vera's lips began to tremble, and she squeezed her phone hard. "Tell me what you got there, uh?" He asked, walking to her, bending, and picking her phone. Vera held her breath, as he leaned over her, and watched him turn on the phone. "Aw. You were chatting before your worst nightmares came to life? I'm sorry about that, sweetie." He said, dropping her phone. "Give me a minute. I'm just gonna do my thing here." He added, getting to his feet, and when he dipped his hands into his trousers, Vera closed her eyes tight. It was quite a nauseating sound, hearing him pee on the floor, and Vera hated it. Bits of it splattered on her legs, and it was absolutely disgusting, but what could she do? She didn't want to be killed mercilessly. "Ha. Why don't you look? I assure you you'll be blessed for the rest of your life if you take a look at my big man." He let out a hearty laugh at his own statement, and Vera almost whimpered. He was disgusting, and fearful at the same time. How much worse could it get? "You think I'm disg…" he was saying, but he was interrupted by a shrill sound. The sound of a siren. Vera's eyes flew open, and hope filled her eyes. "Damn, damn damn…" The man said, zipping up properly. He bent, and pulled Vera by the hair. She screamed, and he whacked her across the face, making her swallow her sobs, and choke them down. "How could the damn cops be here!?" He asked, pulling her along. "Hurley! We have to get the hell out of here! What the heck are you doing!? Throw the bitch aside!" One of the men said, and Vera was pushed away harshly. She hit her head on a wall, and her head swam. The man who had found her in the restroom, jumped across the people laying on the floor, to join his fellow criminals, so they could run. "Calm down. We can't leave without getting the job done!" One who seemed like the leader growled, and aimed his gun recklessly, shooting randomly. Vera immediately lay on the floor, chest pounding hard, and moments later, was forced to watch a bullet travel at rocket speed above her. She gasped, and took in deep breaths, only to lift her head slightly, and see the man with his gun aimed at Charles who was trying to push James down, so he wouldn't get shot. Vera screamed his name, but before she could get her message across, a bullet hit him fast, and tore out of his skin, sailing past Vera. And just like that, Charles was down.
