Revenge of the Rejected

Chapter 104

Vera hurried up to Charles' room, and a deep gasp of shock escaped her mouth as she met Charles lying lifelessly on the bathroom floor. “Oh, my goodness!” She screamed out, and then ran into the bathroom. “Come on, let's take him downstairs.” Vera urged, and both her and the maid carried Charles downstairs. As soon as they laid him down in the sitting room, Vera hurriedly took out her phone, and dialed a hospital's number for an ambulance. “Charles, Charles, can you hear me!” Vera called out to him and then checked out his pulse. He was still alive, but his pulse was weak, which meant that he was dying. Soon, an ambulance got to Charles’ house, and he was wheeled into the ambulance. Vera felt for him because this wasn't the first time he was poisoned, and his enemies were sort of getting to him too much. On getting to the hospital, they wheeled him into the emergency center, and both Vera and the maid waitied impatiently and in fear. Vera phoned James, and when James heard the news, he also rushed down to the hospital. Now, they were all waiting for Charles and hoped that he would be fine. After about an hour, he was wheeled back into a ward which James went into to see him, but Vera stayed back to listen to the doctor. She had sent the maid home to take care of the house, so there won't be any other issue from that angle. “Doctor, what happened to him?” Vera asked, out of concern. “He ingested poison. It was something he had, probably this evening, but we can't tell which of the things he ate or drank, was poisoned.” The doctor responded. Vera became suspicious of the maid, and called the cops to arrest her as she was a suspect. Although, she knew that Charles could get annoyed as she took the decision in her hands, but she felt this was an issue that concerned his life. Then she walked into his ward, and watched as Charles slept peacefully. She was grateful that he lived through this one as well. “We need to ensure we don't trust anyone completely from this moment on. Just imagine his maid poisoning him.” Vera spoke out. “I hope she rots in hell.” James added, feeling angry towards the maid. Both Vera and James watched Charles, and made a promise to each other that they would do anything to protect Charles and they would also remain loyal. About two days later, Charles was much better, and was ready to resume work, due to his stubbornness. Although, he could not get his mind off the fact that his maid had actually poisoned him. He was trying to think hard on what he could have done that had made her poison him. “I gave her a chance by trusting her, and this is how she decides to repay me for all the good I have done to her.” Charles thought to himself. He got prepared to check out the imposter, and also called the cops to stay around until he needed them to come into the company to arrest the imposter. As he walked down the stairs, he met Vera who was already as ready as he was. “Are you sure you don't want to rest more at home?” Vera asked, out of concern. “No. I'm alright. Two days of rest is alright enough. Can't afford to let my empire crumble all because I want to rest when I'm obviously much better.” Charles uttered, and walked past her, heading out of the mansion. Vera walked fast to meet up with him, and they both got into the car. The driver started the car, and headed out to the company. “So, when are you going to make your decisions, regarding your maid? She has been held custody for two days and a night now, as a suspect. We should move the case on, and allow her be a prisoner completely.” Vera brought up the maid's issue. “One by one, Vera. I'll settle all these one after the other. As for her, I just need to be certain, and I also want to find out why she did it.” Charles replied, and shut his eyes to rest. He didn't want to hear anymore word from Vera regarding his maid as it kept hurting him that someone like his maid could be so heartless after treating her well. On the other hand, Angela was in the sitting room, annoyed, and frustrated. She had expected Charles to die, and not survive the poison at all, especially because it was in the night. If no one had interrupted, he would have been pronounced dead in the morning, and she would be proud of what she did. Then Mrs. Penny showed up out of nowhere, and sat down on the sofa, then stared at Angela. “A few days ago, you told me that you'll handle Charles, and that you had the perfect plan which would work out.” Mrs. Penny spoke.“And it did, grandma. The plan worked, but he survived it.” Penelope said, pouting like she was going to cry. “But I remember telling you that my plan will work out. This gang will carry out their plan, and it will work as expected. In fact, Charles won't be able to survive.” Mrs. Penny bragged, still feeling in control. Angela didn't want to mention it was Mark who sent her to poison Charles, because she felt he didn't want Mrs. Penny to know his whereabouts or worry about him. Even she couldn't get where he was anymore because he had relocated. Mark was just being completely discreet, not wanting anyone to know where he was. “But the gang you hired were taking time.” “They could have nailed it if you didn't ask me to put it on hold as you have poisoned him. Anyways, I have told them to continue with what I asked them to do, and they said they'll carry it out really soon.” “How soon?” Angela sniffled, and sat down to listen. “Tonight.”
