Caught Between Two Alphas

Chapter 236 Her Last Wish

LANDON’S POV We have been running for about twenty minutes now on the path the maid suggested, the one that leads to the market but there was no sign of them. As we ran we kept to the lonely path to the market because I could tell that it had been traveled by a group of people not too long ago. However as there was no sign of them I am having a doubt about following this path because I believe if truly they had plied this route, then we should have caught up with them considering how fast we ran. However, I am not sure as to the exact time they left. The maid only said that they left in haste a while ago. But that lady talks too much, what if she meant to say over an hour ago? I would be doomed should anything happen to Dawn. As I was running, I stopped abruptly, and seeing that I stopped, Lalic stopped too. “That sound,” I said. “Yes, I heard it too. It came from far ahead. It is her” Lalic puts in. I heard a loud cry just now and it was filled with agony. But why should the crying stop? It lasted for just a brief moment and then it was no more. *I think she is okay. It is her, I can feel her* Blair reassured me. *But the cry has stopped, what happened?* I asked. “We have to keep running, uncle Landon, at least now we are sure that we are on the right track,” Lalic encouraged. “But why did she stop? Why did she cry, what happened to her?” I asked in fear. “I think someone hit her. See I think if we should run faster, we would get to them soon” he replied. “But I can't hear her anymore...” I murmured. I was going insane and it felt as if my whole world has shattered and nothing is left of it. I cannot believe that I heard her voice just now and then it was no more. *Just keep moving, man, she needs you* Blair yelled. Hearing my wolf’s scream it was as if something got into me and I became determined again. Now I want her with me dead or alive and I must reach her soon. “Let’s go, uncle Landon before it gets too late” Lalic ordered.“Yes, Lalic, we are getting close to them” I became positive. Lalic pulled me by the hand and started to run. Soon I fully regained myself and picked up and we ran as we had never done before. Soon we arrived at the entrance of the market and I looked at the road leading into the market but there was no sign of anyone. Today is not a market day, and the whole place was deserted so it would have been easy to detect if someone had been there. “They are not here” Lalic gasped. “Yes, they are not” I replied looking around for a possible sign that might lead us to them. “But the lady told us that they were heading to this place” Lalic pondered. “They did, but it seems that this is not their final destination” I murmured and bent down to pick something that I noticed on the floor. “This...” I said as I held up what I picked. “And what is that, uncle Landon?” Lalic came close to me to have a look. “A tooth” I muttered. Lalic tried to examine the teeth. “A tooth? Looks like it just pulled out of the owner’s mouth” “Yes, it is Dawn’s” I replied. “That is it. She cried the moment she lost the tooth. Someone must have knocked it off or something” he said. “Yes, they did. Now I think I know where they are heading, I can smell her” I revealed as I began to perceive the strong smell of freshwaters and olive. “Then let us go after them right away” he replied. I looked at the path that leads to the outskirts of the town and said. “Let us take this way” and without wasting any more time, we zoomed off. DAWN’S POV We are here now at the front of the dungeon but my blindfold has not been taken off. I was tired, and I sort for where to rest but I was made to stand. Not even the chain on my hands had been taken off. I felt worse than a condemned hardened criminal. All I wanted is to die and get this all over with. Since it is my death that will make my father happy, then I must die, and gladly would I do so.But then I have one last wish, and it is a promise that my father must make to me if he does not want my soul to haunt him from the great beyond. He must grant me this desire to ensure that I rest in peace after my death without any disturbance. With this wish, my death would not be held against him. It would be said that I died of my own volition. I decided that I must make my wish now before the sacrifice is carried out and so I called. “Father” my voice was hoarse and almost inaudible. “What is it?” he yelled. “Don’t you ever learn, stop disturbing me? I am ready to do nothing for you” “Go hear her out, Tim. Who knows, she might want to make her last confession” I heard the witch say and giggled mischievously. “Father” I called again ignoring the ridicule of the witch as a cluster of blood circled my mouth. He moved closer to me cursing under his breath. “Are you here, father?” I asked. “Speak, you brat. I wonder why you are immortal. You should have died already from all of this” he cussed in annoyance. “I have a last wish before I die” I informed him. He hissed and when I noticed he was going to leave, I shouted. “If you don’t want me to haunt you and if you don’t want my blood to be on you, then... then...” I was finding it difficult to go on. “Keep quiet, you dunce, what strength does your blood hold?” He shunned me harshly. “No...” I forced myself to continue speaking. “You will be free and I will hold nothing against you if you don’t... you don’t...” making out a sentence was becoming too difficult for me. I was already gasping for breath, and I am using all I have in me to continue speaking. I am trying but it doesn’t seem to appear good enough. “I say you keep quiet this minute you evil child. I am already cursed to have you, what other curse should I fear?” he yelled. His blood was already boiling. “Get everything ready right away, I can't wait to do away with her” he ordered. I was not dissuaded by his hurtful remarks but went on. “I will not hold... anything against... you, as long as... you... you don’t make... me a... a zombie even after I... I am dead” I finally succeeded, saying the words one after the other. “What right do you have?” I heard him yell and then felt a thunderous slap on my face. The effect was huge that I fell from the hold of the person holding me and landed on the ground with a loud thud. I wanted to scream, but even now I could not find the use for my voice as the pain that I felt was overwhelming. The man that has been holding me roughly dragged me off the ground and made me stand again. I had wished that he was going to allow me to remain on the ground a while longer, my legs are already beginning to tremble. “Tie her to the tree” Mildrid ordered and I was led to a tree and tied to it. I felt my father walk close to me and lifted his hand to hit me again but it stopped midway in the air as a thuderous scream was heard. “You do not hit her again”
