Caught Between Two Alphas
LANDON’S POV I was inside Lalic’s room playing the game of chess with him when I felt a sharp pain in my heart. It felt as if something was about to go wrong. I got up from the bed and went to stand by the windows for some fresh air. I can't understand why I would suddenly feel this way. “Are you okay, uncle Landon?” Lalic moved over to me. “Yes, I am fine” I murmured. “You don’t look fine, what is wrong with you?” he insisted. “I am fine” I repeated. “Okay, we have not finished with the chess, or are you afraid that I will beat you this time?” he chuckled. “See you can go back, I will join you right away” I tried to dismiss him. The pain was still there and I was hoping that it will leave. Why does it feel so real as if an arrow was pierced into me? I felt troubled. Still not convinced by my response, Lalic asked. “What is wrong, uncle Landon?” I looked by my side and saw that he was still standing there. I sighed. “I said you should go wait for me, Lalic” I persuaded. “But you can tell me about it, I can see the pain on your face. What are you worried about?” he asked. “Oh... Lalic” I inhaled and went to sit. He followed me and would not stop pestering me. “You need to share your pain” “I think it is nothing, just a mild pain in my chest. I guess it is because I have been sitting for too long” I replied. “Really?” he asked looking so worried and keeping his eyes on my chest. “Y... yes” I forced myself to speak and breathe properly. The pain was already excruciating. I fear that I might be having a heart attack. “It does not appear like a mild pain to me. It isn’t mild if it can make you react this way. What do you think might be the cause of it? I can get the doctor to attend to you right away” Lalic offered.*Blair... Blair* I tried to reach my wolf to understand what was going on but discovered that he would not say a word to me. I noticed that he was in a deeper pain himself. In fact, he has been in this pain for some minutes before mine but I ignored it since I was focused on the game with Lalic. *Talk to me, Blair, say something, or are we about to die?* I persuaded. I waited to get a response, but sadly, none came. “Maybe I should get you some water first” Lalic suggested. Seeing that there was no better solution at the moment, and he would never take no for an answer, I nodded and he went over to get a cup of water. He returned with a cup of water and offered it to me. “Drink this, uncle Lalic. It is just the right temperature. I made sure that it is not cold” The little boy did not panic, he tried his best to handle the situation perfectly and I was impressed by his professionalism. “Thanks,” I said after I finished the water and placed the cup beside me. “Now you come over and lie on the bed. I will watch you for a few minutes and if you are not better by then I will have to get the doctor for you” he instructed. I felt lying down was a great idea and so I got up and moved slowly to the bed. I had to act carefully as I was afraid that it would be drastic if I should push myself more than was necessary. After I lay on the bed, Lalic came on sat close to me, and asked. “How does it feel now, uncle Landon?” “I am a bit relaxed, thanks” I replied with a smile. Lying down seems to be just what my body needed. I was beginning to breathe properly and the pain seems to have reduced. “Good. You rest a while” he said. *I thought you will never take rest* I heard Blair say from within me. *Blair, what happened to us, or better still, what is happening to us?* I inquired. *I can't say for sure, but it seems our mate is in some trouble. I could feel her wolf in distress* Blair responded. *Our mate?* I muttered. *What is wrong with her, where is she now and how do we save her?* I asked anxiously. *I can't answer all your questions, man. This is the only reply that I can come up with. Right now, I need to rest a while* he said and cut me off. He needed to rest. His voice was faint and he needs time to recover. But what can I do now, what is happening to Dawn and how do I go about saving her? “It is aunt Dawn, right?” Lalic’s question brought me back to the present. “How...” I nodded. How did he know about it? This was the question that I wanted to ask. “Yes, I do. I could tell from your expression when you were having the conversation with your wolf” he replied. “I don’t know what to do, what if she needs me right away?” I lamented. “Then communicate with her through the mind link. That is the only way to find out what situation she is in” he replied. He is right, the mind link. But just as soon as my spirit was lifted, it dropped and I became frustrated again. “What is the matter, uncle Landon?” he asked. “I can't reach her through the mind link” I revealed. “But why, she has a wolf doesn’t she?” he asked. “Yes, of course, she does...” “Then what is stopping you, do you want her to get into deeper troubles?” he asked. “It is not as you think...” I began. He cuts in. “It is not about what I think, it is about you not letting anything bad happen to aunt Dawn. She is the best aunt and I will never forgive you for that” he yelled. I do know that this is not a threat. Should anything happen to his aunt due to my negligence, he will surely deal with me and I am not about to allow such to happen. “No, Lalic, she is my mate but we don’t share a bond yet. Yes, I can feel when she is in trouble as is in this case, but I cannot speak to her through the mind link yet” I explained. Hearing my explanation, he became sad and closed his eyes. “I will go look for her today, I am going to Diamond Cut right away” I revealed.“No, I don’t think that is the best thing to do,” he said. “And why would you say so?” I asked, perplexed. He was the same person that just requested that nothing should happen to his aunt, why then is he against my going to her? “I don’t think it is right to leave the palace at the moment” he replied. “Then I will go there in my wolf form, I will be back before you know it” I explained. “You cannot leave. You are the only one here. Mother, father, and lord Nathan are in Diamond Cut Pack now, and they are with Dawn. None of them would allow any harm come to her” he said. “Yes, you are right" I concurred. "But if the feelings continue, then I will have no choice but to go to Dawn,” I said. “Then you must go find her,” he agreed.
