Caught Between Two Alphas

Chapter 200 The Hunger Game Iii

BETA TIM’S POV “There they are, Tim, you can see for yourself” Mildrid announced. My heart was gladdened as I looked up and saw the biggest man among them coming toward us. “I know this one must surely come” I asserted. Of a truth, he is one of those that I had my eyes on all day. I have accessed him and I know that his pride and arrogance would not allow him to return home. He was so confident that none among all those present would be able to stand up to him. Nevertheless, he is an asset to us. He already looks so intimidating as a werewolf then imagine what he will be as a zombie. I am beginning to consider making him the leader of the zombies. He is tough and we need tough men like him. “Wait, more will soon follow behind. Men are insatiable and will struggle for anything, even a piece of bread” Mildrid assured. Yes, I have no cause to doubt her, more men will truly come. If one can come, then more would surely follow as they would not want to sit back and allow the food to be given to only one man. Mildrid is right, it all boils down to the insatiable nature of man. As I thought of this, I laughed within me. I was still engrossed in my thought when I sighted the tallest lady among them strolling in and right behind her was the short man with the protruding stomach. Looking at him from the hilltop taking his funny steps towards us, I nearly burst into laughter. He appeared like a joke in all of this. “He came too?” I murmured as I fought hard to restrain myself from giggling. I would have bet my last card that this man would not agree to fight. I thought that he would be the first to return home. But who knows, his wolf might be nothing like him. I thought still with all iota of doubt. “He is a man with flesh and blood, you know” Mildrid replied mischievously. “Since he is here, then the rest must come too” I asserted. “Having a will is not by size, Tim, always remember that” she told me. “Yes, it is not...” I murmured as I looked ahead and saw a handful of the rest coming too. They were a total of about thirty of them. Initially, they were up to fifty but now it appears the rest had given up and returned to their respective homes.Right now there is none below the age of seventeen among them. So every one of them should have a wolf. The ladies here are just three and there is one elderly man left. I never knew any elderly man would want to fight for food. His wolf should not be very active anymore. Or did he just pick this medium to die? Be that as it may, I will make him the custodian among them. Every group needs an elder. “My lady...” I called. “Speak Tim” she replied. “Those that have left, how do we handle them?” I asked. “We don’t need them here” she replied nonchalantly. the way she had replied got me worried and so I asked. “I mean, what if words get out, what if they decide to spill what they saw and heard?” She giggled. “They will not remember a thing, Tim. I have it all under control” she replied. “Really” I muttered. I was completely stunned. I never even thought about anyone talking until now. Mildrid really sees into the future. “They will not even admit seeing either of us today. To them, this never happened” she replied. I was relieved. I don’t know what I would have become without her. “Thank you, Mildrid. I wonder what would have become of me if I don’t have you by my side” I appreciated. “All I require of you is an undivided loyalty and I will take you to any height that you dream of. I can even take you to the sky and back” she replied. “Hold on, my lady. Don’t worry, I will prove to you just how undivided my loyalty is after this is over” I assured her happily. She grinned and turned her face away from me and focused on the crowd. “Now let the fighting begin. Only a half of you will get the food” she announced. Immediately after she made the announcement, the whole place erupted and went into chaos. Without awaiting further instructions, they all shifted to their wolves and started to attack one another. They fought as if they have been lifelong enemies. No one seeing this fight would agree that they are actually from the three brother Packs. It is funny that they don’t even know themselves, most of them only met here for the first time. What then is their motivation for fighting against themselves to the point of death?Truly, men are beasts. The fighting continued fiercely, werewolf against werewolf each struggling to bring the other down. My eyes caught the wolf of the tallest lady. Hers is an ash-colored wolf with splitters of brown. It is not what can be described as a lovely wolf as it was just as scary as its human counterpart. The ash-colored wolf's first point of call was the other female wolves. She fought with the two of them as if they were all longtime rivals and soon the other female wolves were on the floor dead. I marveled. It didn’t take her long to bring them down. She was still reminiscing on the defeat when a male wolf jumped on her from behind. It was a surprise attack, but as the great fighter that she is, she was not taken by surprise. Soon the other wolf was on the ground while the female wolf was already on top of it. I was still hoping the new wolf would pull away when she aimed her claws on his stomach and soon his intestines were all on the surface and visible to all. The defeated wolf whined and shifted to its human form, and that was when I noticed that it was the short man with a protruding stomach. But what was he thinking attacking the wolf of the tall lady in the first place? I don’t pity his dead body one bit. The fight continued and grew fiercer as it goes and before long, there was blood littered everywhere and more bodies lying lifeless. I never imagined that it would be like this, I never thought that they would fight this fearlessly to get a handful of food. Should I have realized this earlier, then I would have made the soldiers fight for food during the war. I am confident that if that was the case the war would have turned out quite differently.
